Sometimes I think Rivera just goes along at his snail's pace as if he thinks he has 10 years to rebuild this team. At this rate of progress, Snyder may fire him much sooner than he thinks.
The junkies are saying Ron is guilty of malpractice on the way he is handling the Linebackers..The D is gonna fail this year .
It is malpractice. What's even more frustrating is I think that with just a solid LB signing and a bit more CB depth, it would have been a really, really good offseason:

-Went all in on QB, and did find a significant improvement
-Solid draft, Chris Paul looks really good IMO, obviously Brian Robinson, Jahan Dotson seems to have had a very good camp, they improved the offense and gave their new QB some weapons, and Sam Howell could turn out to be a very good pick
-Good move by letting Scherff go and signing both Norwell and Turner for less than Brandon is making in Jacksonville

And yet just because they didn't address maybe the most obvious need (except QB) for the second season in a row, and didn't anticipate lack of CB depth... It seems like the D is gonna hold us back again.

Well, to be fair, if nobody gets hurt and we don't play more than 5% of snaps in 4-3, it could be ok...

The #Commanders are placing RB Brian Robinson on the reserve/non-football injury list after he was shot twice while being the victim of a robbery, sources say. This takes the pressure off him to recover within the first 4 weeks. No timeline. But a chance he's ready by Week 5.

LB - were there any good options? Bobby Wagner but I dont think he would have signed here unless we drastically over paid.

on top of that .. do we need a Mike or a coverage type LB? bc a mike would replace Holcomb and I think we have to give Jamin Davis a chance to show his stuff this year.

I would have preferred a vet upgrade at mike, but with davis and holcomb getting plenty of snaps still.

Im okay w Holcomb and Davis ... just one injury away from a Holcomb injury and Bostic/mayo is playing 100% of D snaps.

idk ..

No real great options at LB that would have been upgrades over holcomb/Davis

On a positive note, Bostic was on the roster in 2020 - playing big minutes - when the defense was pretty decent against average QBs...

Not sure this is on RR as much as it is an indictment of the entire franchise. Respect is earned. We haven't earned much in, well, decades. Let's hope that this season marks the turnaround. Hope springs eternal.

I will say this, Jax was dreadful last year, and while I am sure they'll see improvements (Pederson >>> Meyer), they have a long way to go.

Believe it or not, Week 1 vs Jacksonville is a Code Red Must Win game.

After that, Week 2 vs the Lions is a Code Red Must Win game.

You couldn't ask for a better start to the season as far as schedules go - a "home" game vs the team with the least wins in the NFL last year, and game 2 vs the other team with the least wins in the NFL last year.

Honestly 1-1 would be unacceptable, 0-2 and heads must roll.

Outside of Wagner, who I dont think would come here ... I dont see any good options on that list.

Myles jack? 37.7 pff last year but Id trust the steelers in thinking hes worth 8M per.

Jordan Hicks signed with the Vikings and has a 3.5m cap hit. That is the sort of mid level contract we should have been looking at. There is a reasonable argument for not spending big dollars on the likes of B.Wagner or trading for Roquan Smith, but a relatively cheap vet was there to be signed.

Hicks (30 yrs old), 1114 snaps, 116 tackles, 4 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 0 ints, 5 PD

Holcomb (26), 1021 snaps, 142 tackles, 1 sack, 2 ints, 2 FF, 1 TD, 7 PD

Outside of Wagner or trading for Roquan ... there wasnt many options and zero good ones. Maybe Hicks would be a slight improvement but Id rather go with our in house guy all things considered. The youngish guy from NE was a good candidate but he stayed in NE.

Corner? There were good players to be had, and still had.

I am not sure whether Hicks is starting in Minnesota, but as a backup to Holcomb with occaisional snaps in goal line etc he would be light years ahead of the guys we have. Plenty of starting experience. Maybe I am being too optimistic, but making some sort of effort to improve our depth was warranted

As for corner, yeah there are loads of experienced vets out there, not sure whether they want backup work or not.

It is incredible that not only did RR and co not fix the LB depth but they seem to have completely wrecked the CB depth too. It is strange because last year they went out of their way to sign a couple of decent/experienced backup CBs onto the roster. McTyer was injured last year, but played well, still a FA, I wonder if they are expecting him to be declared fit sooner rather than later and taking the opportunity in the mean time to look at the young guys they just claimed

I'm not sure the comparison of Hicks to Holcomb is the right one to make -- the relevant one would be Hicks to Bostic or Mayo, as we'd be talking about Hicks (or someone like that) as opposed to one or both of them. I was hoping for Kwon Alexander. Not sure who is out there now that would be of interest.

Between Hicks and Bostic, at this point I'd rather have Bostic. He's no B Wagner, but we were never going to get him, or a similar caliber player anyway. I'm not sure there was another one out there. I think it was B Wagner, then a handful of backups to choose from.

I guess I'm ok with the LB group. They must be pretty confident in Holcomb's ability and Davis' development, and they obviously weren't enamored with any of the other names out there. My guess is if Bostic wasn't released, they probably would have addressed the position in another manner - bringing in someone else, but they know what they are getting in Bostic as he was part of this defense when they were pretty good a couple years ago.

I have higher expectations than most probably. I would be surprised if they don't win at least 10 games. I think Vegas has them winning around 7. I'm absolutely taking the over on that.

To get there though, they cannot afford to lose to the Jags or Lions.

Like to say Hello Commanders fans from all points!!!!
This is a VERY OBSERVANT YR 3. There is supposed to be something to this, one even if Young and Robinson are delayed by some games. This will not stop this team from producing what should be a POSITIVE YR in the win column, meaning at least 9 games in wins. I expect no less.

I agree on Howell, saw him play here in Winston Salem against Wake Forest. It was the Sam Hartman, Sam Howell duel and they lit the airwaves up.
Sam Howell won the game, but Hartman's team stayed alive for the ACC Championship game. Howell showed all the makings of a Very Good QB, Hartman has a Herbet type game. He's no bulldozer like Howell who runs a lot like Josh Allen. He's tough and smart on route running, getting the first down.
He's like a better of Heinicke, with a canon arm.

I believe is a 2 notches better than Heinicke and 1 better than Howell. Hartman is available in 2023 Draft and is better than all three, IMO, but not by much. He sees seams, out's whether dump, short, long , over defenders.

I would have taken Myles Jack, Jordan Hicks, Kwon Alexander, Kyle Van Noyle, Joe Schobert, Anthony Barr, Anthony Hitchens (still available), Dont'a Hightower (still available), KJ Wright (still available), and even KPL (still available) over Jon freakin Bostic and David Mustard.
Except Myles Jack, every one of those guys signed for 5M or under.

Even you wanna say nobody would've unarguably taken Holcomb or Jamin's job, it would've brought competition, allowed us to line up a 4-3 if needed, and give us quality depth !

Is Landon Collins still available - for the Buffalo nickel role? He did that well and knows the D. If he could embrace not being a safety (and no one else will see him as such), it could work.
