Re: Scott Turner Fired
My trouble with Rons comments about offensive philosophy is he spent the last two off seasons spending cap space and high draft picks on WRs and neglected the OL. That is totally contrary to what he says he wants. He wants a power run game but spends millions on Curtis Samuel as a "weapon" which involves him being used heavily as a RB, has Gibson as his starter last year and cut the one genuine power back we had so they failed miserably when trying to convert 3rd/4th and short. I don't think Ron knows what he wants, which may well be the problem.

With the sale we probably weren't getting a new HC anyway. Next season will be a wash IMO. We may have a new owner but with remains from the old regime. The real fresh start will be 2024. |
Re: Scott Turner Fired
Can't say Turner didn't deserve the boot, but 8 different starting QB's in 3 years? Hard to say that's really a fair shake. The QB mess is on Ron, but Turner takes the fall.

Yeah and neither of those 8 were legit QB1's LOL. It's not easy winning football games with below AVG QB play. I hope they bring in a young mind that has a balanced attack like they do in Philly , SF , Cincy Etc |
Re: Scott Turner Fired
Slowik is intriguing, but he has no ties to RR that I can tell, so I'm not sure he's on the short list. Could be good though if he'd even be interested.
RR better hire someone who can get this offense rolling though, or he's sure to be gone by mid-season.
Even a stubborn ass like Ron has to understand that his ties have been a failure both on the staff and on the field. If he wants to save his job long term he needs to think outside the box. Especially when it comes to the offense. Slowik is looking to be an OC not a passing game coordinator who answers to the HC. I really hope someone in our organization has him on the radar and makes it happen. |

100% correct. I also wonder how much Ron's 1985 offensive philosophy wouldn't allow Turner to do what he really wanted. |

What young dynamic offensive mind would want to come here and work for Dinosaur Ron? Unfortunately with the ownership situation we are stuck with Ron and whatever friend he brings in to be an OC. Next year is a lame duck year for Ron and his staff. |
Our team, with no other changes, has a 99% chance of being better next year simply by replacing Turner. So today was a good day:

If he replaces Turner with Ken Zampese it’s gonna be extremely disappointing |

I honestly don't care who he hires, as long as that new OC adjust to the team that we have, focuses on running the ball, and potentially growing Howell (if they go with him). I wouldn't mind if Ron went after someone in McDermott's staff in Buffalo. |

If you don't want to go with the game plan that the former OC had for the team, why would you promote someone that worked under that OC? |
Re: Scott Turner Fired
Bon voyage Scott
Tough sledding with the QB situation but bottom half in O for 3 years, only putting up 10 points vs the Browns in an important late season game Feel bad that I dont think he ever got to call the plays he wanted, instead had to do pee wee football and run the ball. |

Slowick + Howell + our weapons + an offseason dedicated to the oline = winning. Please God of Football make it happen!

Id rather be a modern spread offense but you need a capable QB
Until you have a capable QB, we need an OC that can adapt to what we have. And the more I think about it, it is not just about running more, but being strategic about when you run. For instance, if your RB is getting over 5-yards per carry, you shouldn't be calling 3 straight passes inside the 5 yard line. |

Since a new OC logically adheres to the organization's offensive philosophy, a clarification from yesterday's press conference. The Commanders want a run-first and balanced offense. They do NOT want a 2-to-1 run-pass ratio, even though that was inferred yesterday. |

I really think Ron needs a guy that he can just leave alone so he can concentrate on whatever the hell it is he does. Still not sure what that is but keep my quarterback and my offense out yo mouth! |

The run first scheme works with RB's like Henry , Chubb , Barkley , Zeke etc.. I don't know that BRob is that kind of back

Agreed. I like B-Rob but I'd like him more if he complimented the passing attack. Not sure if Ron sees him as a thumper when I'd rather see him out in space, finding the gap and hitting it quickly. We'll see - the Commies media seems to think we're gonna get some retread since Ron is a lame duck coach at the moment. Not many young up-and-comers want to work for a guy who might not be around after next year. |

You know the old saying, if you have 8 qb's you have no qb's. Ron dug his own grave on this one. |
Re: Scott Turner Fired
I don't believe that someone out there looking for an OC opportunity is going to pass up a chance, lame duck HC or not. Jay Gruden said this about when he took the Jax OC job. Guys have to take opportunities as they come, this year's hot OC candidate is next year's forgotten name.

Re: Scott Turner Fired
Ron needs to absolutely go after a guy like Slowik. It's easy to say someone like that wouldn't want to come here in a lame duck year for RR etc., but if you are confident in what you can do, you could ultimately thrive here as an OC with these weapons on offense and this defense. Really just need to improve that o-line and build an offensive scheme around what Howell does best. It's actually a great opportunity in my opinion.
And again, I am laughing out loud at everyone who is balking at the idea of having a physical running team. At no time did RR or Mayhew say that they didn't want a balanced attack. Everyone just inferred that. Who doesn't want a physical power running game, and to keep the opponent's offense off the field? Contrary to what a lot are surmising, that does not equate to not having a capable and potent vertical attack. You can have both. |

I don't really care who comes, I just want someone that is more adaptable. At the end of the day, this may all be a moot point, if the new ownership cleans house. |

Not to mention that this will be an OC who will call plays, which doesn't happen with every OC position in the league. |

Let's let Major Tuddy pick the new O.C.

Re: Scott Turner Fired
So we get Hackett for the OC and Aaron Rodgers comes with him to Washington...of course they'd have to sign Randall Cobb too.
|
Re: Scott Turner Fired
If you thought trading for Carson Wentz was prohibitive to improving the rest of the roster, trading for Aaron Rodgers and assuming that contract would be Carson Wentz x 3.
No thanks. |
Re: Scott Turner Fired
Trading for Aaron Rodgers would be a Snyder move. Hopefully he won't be around to push for that.
|
Re: Scott Turner Fired
I'd have no problem trading for Rodgers. He would make this an instant SB contender. Does he want Hackett as his OC? Bring him too.

He would have the best WR/RB/TE group he's ever had in a long time. |
Re: Scott Turner Fired
Yeah, he'd be great behind this o-line, which would essentially be the same (or perhaps worse) next year if you trade away a bunch of picks and take on that contract.
He had the benefit of having the 3rd best o-line this year according to PFF and he's watching the playoffs just like we are. Our o-line has to be bottom 5-10... You think he won't get killed? Besides that, Seattle received multiple quality players and five draft picks for RW. AR would garner that and more. Nobody can be serious about giving up all those assets AND taking on his $30+ million contract, if they are also serious about improving the entirety of the roster - which is desperately needed. |
