Re: The annual NFL coaching carousel
They interviewed Pep Hamilton and Bryon Leftwitch as their minority candidates. They requested an interview with Ben Johnson but don’t think they interviewed him yet. Mike Vrabel was the guy they wanted and probably why they ditched Mayo quickly.

Bears- Saints- Pats- Hire Former Titans coach, Mike Vrabel Jags- Raiders- No big shock here, Pats hiring former Titans coach Mike Vrabel.
I was surprised when Tennessee parted ways with him. He build a tough, hard working football team there. He'll need a good oc, but I could see him doing well in NE. |
Re: The annual NFL coaching carousel
Raiders lost out on two coaches with ties to Brady. Bellichek decided to stay at his new job at UNC and Vrabel went to Pats.
Raiders probably need a vet coach to establish a culture. Pete Carroll would be a coach who can do that and rebuild a team. Then after 3-4 years give way to a younger coach. If I were them, I’d call the Steelers and see if they can work out a trade for Tomlin. Tomlin and the Steelers probably need a fresh start. |
Re: The annual NFL coaching carousel
Besides what Jerry decides with McCarthy; the only other potential openings would be a from a playoff loser this weekend.
What coach could get the ax, if they lose this weekend? Buccaneers- Todd Bowles could be gone if he loses to us. Bucs have barely made playoffs last 3 years. Owners might decide, it’s time to move on. Eagles- Nick Sirianni. They expect at least a championship game appearance and if that doesn’t happen, change is happening. Bills- Sean Mcdemott. An upset by the Broncos might cause Pelugulas to make a change, thinking Sean can’t get them over the hump. Now this potential opening wouldn’t be a firing since he got an extension. Steelers- Mike Tomlin. If they lose to Ravens, the Rooneys might consider trade requests. Steelers have not won a playoff game in 8 years. They mght decide Mike and the Steelers both need a fresh start; so they are willing to trade him.
I could see Tomlin going. IMO McDemott needs to make it to a Super Bowl or he’s done. How often can you lose over and over again to the same team? |

Re: The annual NFL coaching carousel
What sucks for the Steelers and Tomlin is they are stuck in mediocre NFL; there draft picks are always in the middle of the board
They either need to move on from MT or make a big splash in FA trade or draft picks |
Re: The annual NFL coaching carousel
Looks like Jerry hasn’t negotiated with McCarthy and he’s set to be free Midnight Wednesday. So unless something happens next 2 days, Mike can interview anywhere.

Gotta think that Jerry believes that McCarthy will be back. Teams with no head coach are already ahead of Cowboys so Cowboys would be left with leftovers if they actually don't plan to keep McCarthy. |
Re: The annual NFL coaching carousel
The way its written up, they negotiated but couldn't agree, and its highly unlikely they get back around the table. Never say never, but if they didn't get the deal done now, why would they change positions next week etc. McCarthy doesn't need teh money and Jerry doesn't need the process to make him look a dumbass (he does that all by himself).

Dallas needs anew coach

This would be best case scenario |
Re: The annual NFL coaching carousel
I was also hoping McCarthy would stay also. Quite curious to see who JJ targets. Kind of wondering if he just got lazy with the negotiations. Will be interesting to see how it all unfolds for Dallas and MM.

Re: The annual NFL coaching carousel
I’m gonna miss the weight rivalry between Daboll and McCarthy. McCarthy took the title this year, but I think Fat Daboll is coming for the start of the season next year.
|
Re: The annual NFL coaching carousel
I'd be surprised if KK listens to offers this year, even if Harris/peters were prepared to let him go. And to The Cowboys? I mean if his offense gets us to the SB this year, particularly how unlikely that is, then it'd be hard to stand in his way, but I'm betting his resume will look better if he takes a HC job next year.

Re: The annual NFL coaching carousel
Leaving J.D. as an OC after only 1 season is insane. Especially w/ our cap situation next year. We are legitimate super-bowl contenders next year starting Week 1.

Glad he was retained. Giants and Cowgirls both a mess currently.

Re: The annual NFL coaching carousel
Latest smoke I'm hearing is the Girls want to interview Philly oc Kellen Moore for the job. Moore would be extremely wise to not interview and stay put.

JJ has long wanted to make Kellen the head coach. Well, he gets that chance now. |

I think this would be a more entertaining version of Jerry vs. Parcells. LOL. |
Re: The annual NFL coaching carousel
Pats- Hire Former Titans coach, Mike Vrabel
Jags- Raiders- Jets - Bears- Cowboys- Saints- I can’t see Jerry getting anyone good. Jerry probably wants another puppet again. Only someone with past Cowboys ties or someone desperate to be head coach; will sign on. |

JJ looking at Deion:
https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/43403878/source-jerry-jones-talks-deion-sanders-cowboys-job This may the glamorous hire that JJ covets. Just don't think Deion has enough coaching experience for this and is not subservient enough. Money talks though. I'd almost pay to hear the conversation between the two. |

Hmm, how much of the D improvement in season is down to Whitt, the players and/or Quinn? I suspect this is a Rooney Rule request, but if we lose him is it a big loss? |

Good question. The thought of a team requesting to interview Whitt never crossed my mind, but the more I think about it the more it makes sense, the defense saw a significant improvement in one season. |
Re: The annual NFL coaching carousel
Whitt would be crazy to go to the Jets. One of the worst run organizations in football with a lunatic, meddling owner. I have a feeling that no matter what happens the rest of this season, KK and Whitt are going to stay put and see what we can accomplish next year. There's always the worry that it isn't the magical season this one has been and that the market dries up, but with AP doing his thing, you have to think we will be better personnel-wise next year. I know that there are only 32 of those jobs, but about 6-7 come available pretty much every year.... I would bet that next year, spots will open up in NY (Giants), and one or more of Cincy, Car, Tenn, Cle, and Indy (if they struggle).

I think he's done a good job with the personnel provided so yes it would be a big loss. His defenses will get better as the unit talent continues to increase.

I expect that this is more a case of people not wanting to go to the Jets and them not wanting to end up with a Zorn type hire.

I feel like the defense had major talent deficiencies at the beginning of the year. We had no LBs, no CBs, and no pass rushers at the beginning of the year. Yet, Whitt was able to make this . I can see why some teams would be interested. |

That's the best part. Good luck finding a top notch guy who's willing to bow to Jerry the GM. Also gotta be wary of the environment at the practice facility. A common theme is how staff/players feel like zoo exhibits due to the fan tours at Jerryworld. Gotta find a coach who can tolerate that. |

Anyone watched Landman? Jerry thinks he's an actor now...
