I totally agree with you dude, i mean i love the redskins and J. Gibbs but i am pretty sure a guy off the street can do what Brunell did last weekend. To be honest we better play somebody who can throw the ball more than 30yds man! It is crazy that a professional quarterback cannot seem to throw the ball further than a high school kid. I support J. Gibss but to be honest it hurt me to see how great our defense played the other day and we still needed a damn kick off return to beat the cardinals. Now i am not jumping off the wagon but it may be time to get someone in who can throw the damn ball!

Aright...glad that we got the win despite a shitty performance. So...we are still in the playoff race...and the remaining games still are meaningful for us...

The question is...should Brunell be replaced for the Dallas game?

In my opinion i would not outright say Brunell should be replaced. But i do believe Gibbs ought to give Ramsey some snaps with the first team this week in addition to Brunell...and at least consider the possibility of a switch going into next week.
I am all for him being replaced!!! Is P. Manning available? If not then I guess we are going to have to go with the lady that we came to the dance with Brunell! Ramsey needs more then a few snaps to get ready! Why in the hell would you think Ramsey would be any better then he was when he lost the job??? What would be nice is another WR's but that isn't going to happen like Ramsey pulling off a Doug Williams!!!

And there's part of the problem Gibbs has put all his eggs in one basket and that's Brunell, I believe Ramsey is a better QB at this point in their carreers but I also agree that he would be thrown into a tough situation not really have played all season, Gibbs has frozen Ramsey out the best that he can, and at this point we can't afford to drop a game while Ramsey gets reaclamated back into the NFL, not IMO that it will matter becuase Brunell is going to blow one as he begins his exit from the NFL.

Another WR? I don't know how much of a difference that would make for Brunell, first you have to be able to get it to another WR, which he has had his problems doing, case and point Patten, Patten really didn't do anything with us and no one can say he's not a very good NFL WR, but Brunell and Gibbs seemed to bring out the worst in him, now we have an unproven commodity in Jacobs who gets the blame for not catching any balls, but is it truley his fault? Or is it the fact that Brunell just can't get him the ball, or Gibbs patterns are just to easy to cover? We might get the insight we seek by asking Patten what he thinks the problem is.

You might want to check that, because I don't think everyone felt that way.

Offiss is saying at this point in their careers, Ramsey is the better QB. I'm saying based on what? Their on field performances? How? Brunell has clearly put up better numbers than Ramsey and he is clearly the more proven QB. That's not even debateable. If you compare what they've done on the field, I don't see how anyone can say Patrick Ramsey is a better QB than Mark Brunell, unless you're just biased. In that case, fine, but at least admit it.

How can anyone compare MB and PR's careers? PR actually has to play more than a few games to have a career.

Re: Should Brunell be replaced?
I'll I'm asking for is a logical rationale based on some sort of facts as to how Ramsey is a better QB than Brunell.
Let me start by saying I'm no longer a Ramsey-devotee - I don't think Brunell is the next Peyton Manning, but he manages to get the job done more often than not.

I think what people like about Ramsey is the spark of "brilliance" he would show at times. Most games Ramsey would have a couple of beautiful, laser-like passes drilling a receiver on a post or something. The reason fans love this is because it reminds us of the highlight reels of Manning or Kurt Warner (in his prime.) People love watching this and it gets everyone excited - the explosiveness is what the fans remember.

Unfortunately people forget that Ramsey would just as often toss the ball to the other team, cough it up when he got hit, and was generally as nimble as a tank. Ramsey could be absolutely fantastic one play, and utterly atrocious the next. I think alot of people tend to focus on those brilliant moments and forget the bad for some reason.

Brunell on the other hand is pretty unexciting as a QB. He dumps it off underneath alot, plays it safe and tosses it away, and only on occasion goes deep. He's a much more safe, efficient QB than he is exciting or prone to lighting up the highlight reel.

I think Ramsey is definitely not the answer - he's too inconsistent. Brunell COULD work, it doesn't take a Manning to get to the Super Bowl. The Bucs did it with Brad Johnson playing mistake-free football. Ravens did the same thing. Heck, Minnesota and Chicago both currently have QBs who do little more than "not screw up" and they had amazing sucess recently.

The QB isn't the team in one position - obviously the ideal situation is someone like Manning, electrifying, smart and efficient. Occasionally you have to take the cards your dealt though, as a Peyton Manning isn't easy to find.

The final result is that there are a variety of ways to win a championship, there's no magic bullet or solution at the QB position.

Just my take on Ramsey, having been a strong supporter of his for a while but having come to my senses recently.

For whatever reason JG never had confidence in PR (in spite of what he said to the public) and for whatever reason he has confidence in MB thats why he lets MB keep playing even when he has bad games. Its all about confidence.

Dude he had 2 fumbles and an INT in half a game of work, not a bad game? a 49 QB rating?

Funny how your bring up last year for Brunell, but only mention this year for Ramsey.

As for Brunell he's posted a QB rating of 90 or better 6 times this year. 3 of those were over 100. Unless you're Payton Manning, those are better than commonly average games.

Re: Should Brunell be replaced?

I'll say it again, "Brunell should remain the starter until we are 100% out of the playoff hunt." Moreover, he's played well this season. But, it is disconcerting that he hasn't thrown for over 200 yards in the last four games and hasn't thrown for over 250 yards in the last 8 games. While we don't have to have Peyton Manning numbers withour passing attack, it would sure make our running game look better if we had a decent passing offense.

That is my opinion, although I do base a lot of that on what I saw last season when both played under the same conditions, where Ramsey clearly outplayed the seasoned veteran in Brunell, obviously we have nothing to base it on this season as Ramsey hasen't been given a chance to show whether or not he can play in this offense.

But in all do respect Matty, you were on the Ramsey bandwagon last season as well, and I wonder how you based your conclusion last season, as well as through training camp, and up until Gibbs decieded to change QB's?

In all likelyhood we will mis the playoff's for the second year in a row, would anyone be willing to say if Gibbs came out and said when he first took over that we are trading for Brunell, and we will be out of the playoffs for the first 2 years of his tenure, would then support the trade for Brunell? I doubt it, I believe most would say if this is a 3 year project then allow Patrick to play and develope and see where we are at the end of the first year, because Brunell will be over the hill by the time we are a playoff team, and Ramsey if he is the goods will be in his prime, instead we have an ageing QB who again has us looking for a lot of help to squeek into the playoffs.

If some want to argue that regardless Brunell would have outplayed Ramsey? OK, but we will never really know because he wasen't given a legitamate chance to prove otherwise, now we are 2 years down the road, Brunell's on his way out, and we still don't really know for sure what we have in Ramsey, seems like a major waste of time, and money, but that's just my opinion.

Well, one throws out enough predictions, they'll eventually get one or two right. If I were to predict how the quarterback situation is going to turn out in the near future, it will probably be us trading Ramsey (hopefully to help out on the defensive line) and getting a decent seasoned veteran to be #2. I don't suspect Jason Campbell to be thrown into the #2 position in his second year under Gibbs. For some reason, I see us getting Kurt Warner to be the #2 qb, because he has playoff and Super Bowl experience, and he probably wouldn't be terribly expensive at this point. Gibbs and his coaching staff likes to bring his young quarterbacks along slowly, which is fine by me as long as the finished product is everything we hope them to be.

Concerning the argument with Brunell and Ramsey (which is going to turn into the never ending argument like the Iraqi war,) I'm not sure why people are making such a big issue about it. Those who want to burn Brunell at the stake want to avoid the fact that we have two starting receivers out of the lineup. If we throw Ramsey in there, then people are going to say that Ramsey wasn't given a far shot because he only has one receiver to throw to.

Fans have no confidence in this franchise anymore. Most find joy in looking for things to be upset about. They ignore the fact that we're 7-6 and in the hunt for the playoffs. That is alot more than what we have had in the past 13 years, except for 1999.

We need to stick with the one who brung us (Brunell). That said, I hope he picks up his game. He's thrown only 4 TDs in the past 7 weeks.

Ramsey has shown nothing in his career to indicate he would be having a similar or better season than Brunell is having. However, looking at Brunell's career it's not a huge surprise. The guy has been there, done that.

Regarding last year yes I supported the decision to play Ramsey and I supported it during the preseason. But I also defended Brunell along the way when the majority of people here thought he was all washed up.

As I've said before, I'm not choosing sides here, I support and stand behind Gibbs' decision making more than anything. If Brunell went down and Ramsey came in this week I'd be 100% behind Ramsey just as I'm behind Brunell right now.

Whatever Gibbs masterplan is I'm sure we haven't been wasting time these past two years. Our team effort is such a pleasure to watch. We had one bad game this entire year against a really tough schedule. That's a huge improvement. I didn't mind the switch back to Brunell at all, because I figured Gibbs knew best, but I now argue that we should go with Ramsey. I just don't think Brunell can take us as far as we dream of going right now. That being said I think Brunell has a great opportunity. So here's to our starting QB. May he manage our great team with all that he has. Oh and Dallas Cowboy fans are dumber than a bag of rocks.

Re: Should Brunell be replaced?

Just for the record...so people know where i stand...i also believe Patrick Ramsey is...or at the very least could be if given the opportunity, the best QB on our team.

i was upset when Gibbs replaced Ramsey in the first game...and in my opinion i think we prolly could have gotten to where we are now if Ramsey had started all season.

I believe this because while Brunell played awesome in the beginning of the year...he has been at best mediocre in the second half of the season. I posted a comparison of some of Brunells key stats from the 1st 6 games vs the last 7 games...and it is obvious his performance has gone way down. Also part of this gut feeling i have comes from the fact that Brunell is on the down-side of his career wheras i believe that if Ramsey were given the opportunity he could improve greatly, learn to cut down on turnovers, and begin to realize the potential that i believe he has.

Also if people remember back to last year...Ramsey posted a couple of 100+ passer rating games himself. And whereas Brunell has seemed to get progressively less effective as the season has gone on...Ramsey seemed to get progressively better as he continued to play.

That of course is just my opinion on who would have been our best option at QB this season. And it is altogether a different question than the one of knowing whether Brunell should be benched in favor of Ramsey at this point in the season.

In my opinion Brunell should start the Dallas game...and if he really struggles...and either has a bunch of turnovers...or shows a complete inability to move the offense...and it becomes clear that we dont stand a good chance of winning the game with him then i would prefer to see Ramsey come in and attempt to lead us to victory...rather than just changing nothing...and losing.

We need to win this game. IF Brunell cant get it done...try Ramsey...thats my opinion.

Yes, as did I, after Brunells debacle last season pretty much everyone wanted his head, and yes I was one of the few to defend the fact that although I felt Ramsey would be better for us, brunell was made to look far worse than he was, I put a lot of the blame on Gibbs and his simplistic offense, well guess what the team has evolved some from last season, and Brunells play has been head and shoulders better than last season, which brings me to my point, under the same circumstances last season Ramsey outplayed Brunell [against better defenses I might add] then why is it so difficult to believe that under better circumstance this year Ramsey wouldn't be even better than he was last season, and yes better than brunell has been this season, at least I have something to base my evaluation on, there is no way to base an evaluation on him being a failure this season because he hasen't played, the only thing anyone can hang their hat's on is Gibbs deciesion to bench him, I know this is taboo around here but is there a remote possiblity, just a chance, that Gibbs could perhaps have been wrong about the QB situation? Does that possibility exist, he has admitted to making mistakes personel wise in other areas, I am not saying that that is the case, but could it be possible?

Well it was Brunells inept ability to remotly move the ball for the first 56 minutes of that game, which put us in a position to need miracle throws in the final 4 minutes, are you saying Ramsey would have been as horrible in the first 56 minutes of that game as Brunell was?

Consider this, Ramsey had more passing yards in the first quarter of the Bears game than Brunell had in the final 3 quarters, yes the Bears defense which everyone is proclaiming the best in the NFL this season.

I was just asking the question and was not supporting Brunell or Ramsey. I think its an argument that neither side knows or will never know the answer to.

No you don't replace him unless he is hurt or his play continues to go down hill. i mean i don't want our playoff dreams to go down the toilet with out a fight.i'm not going to lie my confidence in mark is a little strained.i also know that the reserve qb always looks better.i hope it doesn't come to that but if we are losing we need to take shot.
LOL!!! Must be something only mods and admins can do, I haven't been able to look up old threads. Of course I don't have time to do so at work. (I'm always nervous when people walk past my door! Could be the boss, LOL!!!)
I don't think the search feature is regulated to just mods and admins. But I tend to remember relatively trivial things (like what irish wrote in late august) rather easily so it makes it easier to look for the actual thread or post to confirm. I have a good memory I guess-it's how I'm able to write those Rewind columns.

But I wasn't trying to Pwn anyone, just getting annoyed sometimes when people get into hyperboles "Everyone said" "I always knew", etc.
