I was just wondering, what if the trade is not with the Browns. What if there is a trade in the works, word is leaked or slips out but we speculate it's the Browns and it's not. The front office can deny that a trade is in the works with the Browns but yet not be lying.

It's just a fabrication but what if we have a gentlemans agreement with the Rams for them to pick up Bradford and we pick up a player they would be interested in at our pick. We get stuck with the high cost of a #1 pick, trade Campbell to them for Bradford, and give them the pick they wanted at #4 at a lower cost? I know it sounds far fetched but the Rams have been looking into moving out of the pick, and it was rumored they were interested in Campbell. The only positive spot to get Bradford is at #1 otherwise we don't know what the teams prior to us or our trading team are going to want to do. Plus this gives the Rams two players or basically two picks for the #1 spot. They would get Campbell and whoever they wanted us to draft at #4.

It was also rumored that this might be their HC's last year. Supposedly their front office/ownership was not happy with how their season ended and rumor has it he has next year to turn it around. Why would the HC want to chance his job on a Rookie QB when he could get a proven commodity at a reasonable price in Campbell and a draft pick to fill another hole?

I'm not saying I agree with this or if the trade value is even comparable. I was just wondering if any of you other fans thought of this and or perhaps if those with the resources might want to explore this in regards to trade rumors. We would get the player Shanahan covets, the Rams get a decent QB and a player of another spot they need.
This makes a lot of sense, would really make sense if Al Saunders were still in St. Louis. Given the skins rebuilding of sorts, getting the rookie qb would seem to make sense if they really like Bradford. I just wonder if the Rams really don't think Bulger has it for another couple years. If Bulger is healthy JC isn't an upgrade over him.

this deal would also likely entail a new contract for JC. Would the Rams be willing to pay him? how much?

I would be all for a deal like this, but we need a veteran QB for Bradford to learn under for at least a season. Grossman would not be it, if we wind up signing him. Jake Plummer coming out of retirement?

Theres a lot of speculation there, but stranger things have happened.

Believe it or not, I expect Bradfords stock to drop marginally. Clausen or even McCoy may get taken ahead of Bradford.

Fact of the matter is, no one has seen Bradford throw a football since he injured his shoulder and had the surgery. He did not throw at the combine, and it was just announced recently that he will not throw at his pro day at OU. So the jury will still be out on his shoulder going into the draft.

And that can be detremental to where he is selected in April.

Interesting theory, but why go about it that way? Why not just trade the #4 pick and Campbell to the Rams for the #1overall pick prior to the draft?

If something like you suggest were going on, I'd think that SS would get wind of it and pass along the intel. I think its far more likely to take SS at his word and recognize that there simply isnt anything substantial going on at all.

Well he performed well here at wr, and I would think he'll have another solid year as a #3 or 4 wr, maybe 30-40 catches w/a few tds.

If you'res saying he'll perform well in punt returning, that's a different story.

Yeah i was just thinkin that Antwaan Randle El would become a beast punt returner again lol

In other news, i think we should look at Richie Incognito for more competition at guard. i know he's regarded as "the dirtiest player in the game" but i dont think it could hurt to at least look at him or set up a visit. He's solid and he's only 26. Previously worked with Jim Haslett in St. Louis. Also saw that a Dewayne Smith isnt being retained by the lions he's a bigger DE that maybe we can get to play opposite phillip daniels or in a rotation. he's 29.

Antonio Bryant coming to visit:
Bucs acquire WR Reggie Brown from Eagles

Bryant's agent, Lamont Smith, said Bryant had also arranged a visit with the Washington Redskins that could prove more enticing as Bryant would apparently be a second receiver behind Chad Ochocinco in Cincinnati.
Nope, no way, not at all. Bryant looking for a new home.

Reason being that Terrel Owens is visiting the Bengals on Wednesday, and Ochocinco has been lobbying hard for Cincy to sign T.O.

If T.O signs, Bryant drops down the depth chart.
So, yeah, Bryant wants out of Cincy.

He's got million dollar talent and a 2 cent head. But I think he is a WR that Shanahan would like.

yes and no. i think it would be beneficial to bring him in as the #3 QB to help Bradford and Campbell learn the offense. He's familiar with the offense and would fill the same role Todd Collins filled when we brought Al Saunders.... except, you know, Todd actually could still play. Of course, i'd rather have Sage if he were cut by the Vikings.

Since the Peppers thread is closed, I went back and looked at the sack totals between Julius Peppers and Andre Carter.

Over the last three years, Julius Peppers edged Andre Carter by a total of 2 sacks.

Julius Peppers: 27.5
Andre Carter : 25.5

This is in no way to suggest that Carter is in Pepper's league, because I don't think he is. Peppers is just more disruptive in general and it's difficult to quantify his presence statistically. But for what Andre Carter brings to our team, and for a DE about the same age at a fraction of the cost, it was a good non-move by the Redskins in my opinion.

I think it is very interesting how the Bears structured his contract (they essentially have an out after year 1 if they don't like his play or if a CBA makes his contract prohibitive). Pretty sad that there are some doubts on a guy who you just gave $40 mill guaranteed...

#1 Jake Plummer is not a fan of Mike Shanahan and hasn't passed up an opportunity to bash him. Shanahan benched Plummer when he had led the broncos to a winning record and were in the playoff hunt

#2 Jake Plummer has been outta football for two years

The only real difference between the 2 players in the last 3 years are:

JP: INT 1 FF 13 Sacks 27.5

AC: INT 0 FF 7 Sack 25.5

I don't think 1 int and 6 more ff are worth 10 mill more a year.

We played this one smart.

it would be nice if we could sign some of our own guys to similar contracts - ones that would allow us to keep them and pay them appropriately if they play well, but cut them "no strings attached" if they dont adapt to the 3-4 well and a CBA with a cap is in place by 2011.
