Kirk Cousins 24/7 thread
Those people have never played sports in their life.
A 12 year old pitching in the final inning of a 3-2 little league tournament game, win or go home, understands the concept of clutch.
I was a little reluctant to say who it was but it's Grant Paulsen who's arguing if clutch was something that really exists. Quote: "And by the way, for the record- this is where I'm flawed, I don't believe clutch is a thing." For me, he loses a lot of credibility with what he says- just with this. |
Kirk Cousins 24/7 thread
To me, the premise of some of these arguments don't make sense. Like for instance, Kirk didn't lose the Green Bay game by himself. Yet also say that he deserves to be paid a possible $26 million a year.
QB is the most important position, so when they make a major mistake in a clutch situation- they need to assume a majority of the blame. If you believe qbs are important enough to be paid this much- this only makes sense. |
Re: Kirk Cousins 24/7 thread
And clutch to me, in a nutshell, are situations where there really is no room for error. Where making a mistake will cost you the game and it's needed that you step up and make plays.
I'm sure this is not going to change anyones mind one way or the other, but I am shocked at how bad they grade Cousins, barely over griffin. But their rankings had Trent Williams grade as the top overall player at any position.

I didn't read the article, but this has to be a fucking joke. No serious analysis says kaepernick was a better qb than cousins. Give me a fucking break. |
Kirk Cousins 24/7 thread
Let's put something else into perspective, with finding a viable alternative if Cousins does not work out.
17 months ago, everyone would have been happy if we traded Cousins to anyone for a 3rd rounder. And to confidently state that Cousins was the Redskins future was idiotic and was mocked. So fast forward to now and to consider anything other than Cousins at qb is idiotic and mocked. So with that perspective, should this really be the case? |
Its December 2017 at Fed Ex Field and the 2-11 Washington Redskins take the field. Led by Nate Sudfield after Colt McCoy ended ANOTHER season with injury. Their opponent is the 11-2 Denver Broncos led by Kirk Cousins and their first year Head Coach Kyle Shanahan.
Since we play Denver at home next year. I figured this scenario would be very "Redskin-ish". But Hey...Lets not Re-sign Kirk. Whats the worse that can happen? Lol
Very Well Scarry Thought! Like I said earlier. The guy who does the rankings for them is known as CianAF on twitter. He blocks every Redskins fan and use to be a Redskins fan till the RG3 thing went down in Washington. Now he claims he doesn't root for any team. He wrote a whole 4 page article on how RG3 was done wrong in Washington and how he will excel with the better half to come out of Cincinnati between Gruden and Hue Jackson....Hue Jackson. He also had RG3 10 spots higher before the season started in his preseason QB rankings. Kirk Cousins was ranked 28th in the league in his rankings. Fitzpatrick, Sam Bradford, Taylor, Siemen, and even Brock Osweiler was ranked ahead of him. Ofcourse during the middle of the year he went silent, and awoke again after Dallas saying KIRK COUSINS was the reason for the loss in the 2nd game. The same game he threw for 450 yards and multiple touchdowns. Hes a fraud. He refuses to go on radio shows and blocked everyone from 106.7 because they requested to have him on the air to explain his logic. How he is employed with a mediocre site like BR is beyond me because he isnt even mediocre. |

We'll pay outrageous money to a tub'o'lard defensive tackle with one great season on a career year but we're having doubts about paying our first franchise qb in 25 fucking seasons? No wonder we sucked for so many consecutive seasons. |

Or the durability, or 32 starts under his belt in this offense, or many other things that just makes this conversation retarded |

No chance. Can he win games? Yes if you have a top 5 D and top 10 run game but that ain't happening next year.. |

In a pinch he's a good backup, over the course of a season he would get exposed. His arm is just too limited. |

LOL! That explains everything. The Onion strikes again! But seriously, who in Redskins Park with any authority could be that dumb? Is Vinny back? Hold on a minute! Did I say "dumb" and "Vinny"? Hmmm, dumb...Vinny...Dumb and Dumber. Never mind, I think I know who it could be. |
Re: Kirk Cousins 24/7 thread
Long term deal. Redskins have no leverage here, just get it done and move on with the rest of the roster.
|
Re: Kirk Cousins 24/7 thread
Cousins also needs to think about this in terms of expectations and pressure.
The more he asked for and the more he gets- it adds that much more expectations that the fans and Redskins have for him. They keep saying he likes to bet on himself and he did this past season. But did he definitively win that bet this past season? There's still some questions about that because there's still questions about his game. So it seems like a push - and that's where it seems like we're at. Almost the same spot following last season. |

I like your posts and the way you think. I will go on record and say that I do not think that Cousins is the type of QB who can win the game all by himself, BUT, i think if you give him a complete team, which is something he doesn't have, he is a guy that wins you plenty of big games and probably the superbowl. Let's play Devil's Advocate for a moment here and pretend that our defense was basically average this season, and we had a good kicking game. That's a scenario where we finish 11-5 or better. Hopkins alone cost us at minimum three games. Let's say the defense stayed exactly the same (League worst) and Hopkins didn't blow crucial kicks. We have now finished with at minimum at 10-6 record, but most likely 12-4. Cousins still cost us the giants game at year end. BUT, at 12-4, you feel great going into the playoffs and there is no debate now over Cousins, he's brought you back to back winning seasons and back to back playoff seasons. Do you see what i'm saying? Amazing that Cousins won 8 games (really nine in my book because of the tie) with a defense that was so historically bad. He had to put above 30 points every week just to have a chance at winning. |

The Redskins would be limited in improving the defense and also maintaining their offense to where they are now. If I were the Redskins, I would just pay him close to what he wants. And work around that. Maybe look to trade him. But signing him, would take more of the pressure off the the Redskins and place it on Cousins. |

The way the Redskins explain it, it's almost a "If you have one, we can't have the other" - So, we pay $$$ for the QB, but then we can't afford a good defense. OR, if we build up the defense, we can't pay a starting QB. How do good teams do it? |

Re: Kirk Cousins 24/7 thread
You can pay KC and have a good defense. Total nonsense that you can't have both.

Re: Kirk Cousins 24/7 thread
Some folks here seem to be unable to put into context what Kirk Cousins has accomplished in the short time he has been our starter. Nor do they seem to appreciate what it takes to find and keep a decent QB on your team in today's NFL.
Kirk's detractors discount many noteworthy facts about Kirk's performance of which they must be aware. They also ignore the realities of player contracts in today's NFL. There are Many, many facts posted here in support of retaining Kirk and paying him very well. What I don't see here are the facts in support of not signing Kirk to a long-term contract. If you don't think he should be signed long-term, educate the rest of us by showing us something that is factual and not subjective in support of your position. |

But it seems that even after the past two seasons, the Redskins probably aren't going to do that. The fact that there are even people "internal" that are still suggesting we could get Cousins-like numbers from Mc-Coy like QB's are all the proof we need that this team is no different. Complete ineptitude still from top to bottom. |

Re: Kirk Cousins 24/7 thread
I think most everyone thinks Cousins is a good QB and may turn into a great QB. But it's not a given. The only problem is he will be paid like he's a great QB already. And the more money that you give him, the less you can give someone else.
