Initially I was receptive to Redwolves, but now it just seems like an easy copout to appeal to Redskins fans. Like "if we keep it close to Redskins, we won't lose as many fans."

Wait, you don't like it because it appeals to Redskins fans? I am sure that isn't what you meant, but it sounds weird.

I actually think it's going to be wolves. I know I am micro-analyzing that video, but in the first flip frame part you see a Wolves submission. Then they show RedHogs (seriously has anyone said Red Hogs???) and the fan says, I like it if they drop the Red.

Subtle things like that are ways media makers influence subtly.

They are leading us to accept Washington Wolves, and I think that's an awesome name.

Sorry but wolf sounds is just so damn cringe. That will get old after about a couple weeks. HTTR was iconic and was only played after a score. People will be doing this wolf bit all night long, after every sack, after every first down, after every score. No ....just no.... Don't do it. If you change Redskins then you have to go away from RED.. just move away from it. You can not keep HTTR and go Hail to the Redwolves. That is also cringe... Even Redhogs, just don't do it.

Agreed.

Sorry Cred but I don't think wolves have any connection to the DC area. I'm sure historically red wolves might be near the area, but I've been here for over 3 decades and have yet to hear about a single wolf sighting. I would like to have some significance to the area if that's the route we're going.

If we're picking from the list my top 3 are Armada, Brigade, and Defenders. We can still keep the colors without keeping Red in the name. Thats my other point Cred - keeping Red in the name feels like an appeal to older Skins fans that have lost their loyalty to the team.

It doesn’t matter if the name has any connection to the area. Plenty of others that don’t. Some do and some do not.
Pittsburgh Penguins
Detroit Redwings
St Louis/Arizona Cardinals
Chicago Bears
Those are just off the top of my head.

- Red in the name is not a must, and shouldn't be contrived (like RedHogs) but RedWolves and Redtails both have valid historical references. Nothing wrong with keeping it in that case.

Exactly. Red was not the problem it was Skins. When you put those two together anyway. If our name had beem the Reds or the Skins it would still be that.
It also in no way has to be DC specific. As I just said Redskins wasn’t DC specific. Along with a laundry list of other pro sports teams names. Commanders and Defenders sounds like DC comics. We were killing the Cleveland Guardians now we want the DC Defenders? Yuck.

I think it's just someone's best guess list and it's probably not far off, but there's no chance it's official or 100% accurate.

As I understand it the list of 8 names shown was the one WFT asked fans to vote on. There has been a WFT source/video that says they are down to three names. I think that CBS have drawn the conclusion that the three names are necessarily on the 8 name list. That may not be the case. The 8 name list was not specified as the final 8 names, in part I think it was to gauge interest in keeping the WFT name which has since been ruled out so obviously the response was mixed.

Regardless of the final name, I personally like that they are keeping engaged with the fans as they go through it. I think videos like the ones they have done lead the fan base through the thought process and funnel the sentiment into manageable expectations. That way barring one of the God awful ones being selected(RedHogs, Presidents) people will at least have mentally accepted/resigned themselves to the outcome.

It isn't happening for a thousand reasons, but the simplest few are that it doesn't reflect any of the traits that they keep harping on. It doesn't provide for expanding the base beyond DC. It doesn't move from the realm of generic.
It was a placeholder and they didn't spend massive marketing capital and brand awareness efforts to in the end say "It's WFT".

I could go on about it but I only slept at the holiday Inn express one night.

I would guess that their next Making the Brand video will be in the November/December time frame and it will be all about moving how they chose WFT as a placeholder and how it is time to move into the future with a new identity beyond WFT.

I think Brigade is ok, but just ok. Red Wolves or Wolves is great. Everything else listed there sucks to me.

Razorbacks or Warthogs would be how I'd go if we want to go down the hog themed route. RedHogs is stupid, that's trying to make Fetch happen with the 'Red' in the name. It's not going to happen.

I think it's fair to rationalize that the 3 names that they are choosing from were at least spotlighted in the Making the Brand Videos. Those 8 are the ones from this most current one. I just don't think this front office, and Jason Wright particularly is trying to be super secretive about it. I think they are trying to walk the fanbase to the one that is the eventual new name.

For me it's pretty easy to see Wolves/RedWolves (W/RW) as being where these videos point to. Whether it's the subtle imagery points in the flip sheets, the multiple fan groups howling, or even the words they use to describe the final choice. They all easily can be pointed to W/RW. I believe in fan polling RedWolves was the leading name, and they are doing nothing with these videos to minimize or reduce it's popularity. Instead, through subtle and not so subtle imagery they are reinforcing the W/RW imagery and sounds. Short of having wolves running in the background, I doubt they could do much more to highlight that name as an option.

I would prefer Wolves or Wolfpack , the use of "Red" though feels like too much of an effort to link to the past.
Surprised there haven't been more good animal related names, but I guess they are too widely used in HS and CFB.
