IMO with #17, don't be surprised with a pick in the secondary. I could see us going CB or Free Safety.

Also, I think Guard is on the radar in rounds 2, 3 or 4.

I think depending on who falls....RB is the most likely possibility at 17.

What has happened to this board? In the past I've been excoriated for even suggesting a lean towards needs-based drafting. Now that I think we are in the clear to draft BPA, some of the same people who ripped me are now saying we shouldn't get too carried away with BPA.

We have one glaring need at NT and there isn't anyone who can play that position that I would draft that high. But that's no problem because there are numerous NT options after the first round. We'll get a good one.

If we stay at #17, there are going to be some potential NFL stars available to us as long as we stick to drafting the BPA. After Round 1, the Skins can cheat a little towards needs but I would hate to see us pass up a stud because of the position he plays.

I agree. Unless BPA isn't as good as the player we already have at same position. If it's close between that guy and another player at a position of need who is clearly better than what we have, I'd go for need. Which is kind of what I think you were saying about the later rounds which makes my post pointless. Have a good day!

Drafting for need to what the bad teams do. When you draft for need you reach for a guy and can end up passing on a great player. You fill need with free agents.

Case in point, look what the Texans did. They passed on Carr for a tackle. Just plain old stupid as stupid gets.

I think you're missing my point 69. If you have 2 players who are closely rated but the one who is a little higher isn't as good as the player at that position you already have, and remember I said if they're closely rated, and the other guy fills a position you suck at, you're still gonna take the guy who's a little higher rated? If it's close I'm going for the position of need. These "experts" aren't always right anyway. Now I'm not talking about one player grading out at 94 and the other at 85. That would be reaching. If they're closely rated it's just a matter of opinion anyway.

The Texans passed on Carr because his brother was a disaster and they didn't want the PR mess.

Look at every team that reached for a QB instead of taking BPA; so many first round picks wasted on garbage QB's.

It will work out fine. I still think he was the most talented WR in last year's draft.

I have been very happy with how the Skins have handled FA this season. Getting some young talent at positions of need without breaking the bank is how GOOD teams act in FA. Yes, there is still work to be done, but they have set themselves up to be able to get some good talent in the draft. Gotta like the direction.

Ask that question again after this season.

I agree. You absolutely consider need. If it were as simple as just drafting bpa all the time than anyone could do it.

IMO you go BPA for players of the 3 positions of highest need for your team . . . so if DL, ILB and S are your teams 3 positions of greatest need you take the best player available from one of those 3 positions . . . hybrid drafting!!

Yes. Big fan of hybrid drafting. Only exception would be if an absolute stud falls for some no good reason. Usually there is a reason though.
Edit: I think we get caught up in the bpa vs need drafting hype though. Nobody drafts strictly bpa round after round without considering need.

Cooley is a big fan of this move

Zach Brown is a great singing by @redskins. Pure athlete with exceptional speed. A+ quicks. Fluid hips. Good ball instincts. ++Tackler.
