Kirk is done in DC after this year, the skins have 6 FA next year, they will pay instead of breaking up the team. Nate Sudfeld will be the next QB if Gruden is around next year.
Kirk is throwing away the security of a long term deal by not compromising with the team, IMO.

I doubt the team is lowballing him, but any long term deal is WAY better than being on the franchise tag from year to year.

He's being all business, and so is the team. I just don't get why either he or his agent, don't see the value of a security of a long term deal.

But whatever, this is a "win now" league and the team has him for the upcoming season. And I guess that's what matters for now.
You are a smart guy but do you have any idea of how ridiculous it sounds when you post that Kirk is throwing away his financial security? The man has already been paid over $19M by the Skins and they are contractually obligated to pay him another $24M for the coming season. With $43M in hand, what financial security worry could Kirk possibly have?

Can we all stop referring to "The Skins" or "The Front Office" in regard to not signing Kirk Cousins to a long-term deal? Don't we all really mean DAN SNYDER when we use one of those terms? If Dan Snyder believed in Kirk, then Kirk would be signed. If Dan Snyder believed in Kirk, then Snyder would pay market rate to sign him. If Dan Snyder believed in Kirk, then nobody in the organization could stop him from signing Kirk.

As always, the "star player" in fucking up this football team is Dan Snyder. As long as Dan Snyder owns the Redskins, the team will NEVER win a Super Bowl.

It is my understanding that playing under the tag is not secured money compared to a long term deal. I don't know the details, I do know people like Andrew Brandt has repeatedly said that common sense in these situation is to take the long term guaranteed money as opposed to playing under the tag.

The Franchise Tag money is 100% guaranteed. Since you were not aware of that fact, I can understand why you were thinking the way you were about the LTD. Without that guarantee, you would certainly be right to think that Kirk had better sign a long-term deal with the Redskins.

Personally, I think a LTD was never a possibility because Dan Snyder simply doesn't want Kirk as his franchise QB.

I know the tag is 100% guaranteed, but a long term injury and/or drop off in play quality could affect a player's potential for future earnings. If the tag contract was as secured as a long term deal, you'd see more players playing under the tag contract.

And let's say the Redskins were offering something in the neighborhood of 50-60 mil guaranteed money, is he willing to throw that way and settle for 25 mil guaranteed this year?

Personally, I think either Kirk may be unrealistically betting on himself and/or wants an unreasonable amount of money to be throwing away the security of a long term deal? Once you have a player who does not value the security of a long term deal, it is difficult for the team to come to some compromise with the player/agent.

Exactly! What good is it signing Kirk if you let just about everyone else go? Thing is Snyder loves chaos, as it keeps everyone guessing/interested and desperate for a winner. I know it sounds crazy, but Snyder is a billionaire and can't be that dumb can he in handling the affairs of the team? Skins fans need to mirror what the Detroit fans did after the debacle with McMillan and just don't show up or come in with bags over your heads if things really start going south again. Snyder has us hooked on mediocre football and he knows it. It is maybe time to fight and get off that hook.

Or maybe, just maybe he wants out!!!! Wasn't he on record saying if Allen was retained he was walking? Do you really want to work for a guy you despise? I would think that the feelings are mutual and this is just a gentleman's agreement of Kirk going away, but with some nice $$$$$$$$. The team management is awful, so why stay!!!!!The good thing about this is Kirk has to play lights out to get the deal he wants, so at least we will enjoy one more decent season before he leaves, then it is going to be back to the drawing board.
This sounds like wishful thinking. I am sure there are several teams that would welcome Cousins in a heartbeat. How long does Carson have in AZ for example? Who knows if Bridgewater ever comes back in Minn? Better defenses than ours and at least a few weapons.

We haven't had stability in the QB position - a prerequisite for doing anything in the playoffs- since the early 1990s. What's it going to take?

The Cards are one team that could be in the mix, no question. Vikings? They're probably staying with Bradford.

He has been pretty brittle too. Maybe. I wonder about Houston or other teams that just signed rookie QBs, at least a few of which might not pan out. But I think it is safe to assume that many teams might be interested in a QB that can throw for 4500+ yards, 25 tds, and will show good leadership. And we should too.

Checking ESPN all day every day waiting for Russell Westbrook to hopefully sign his extension and for Cousins to sign his is a whale of a good time. If Kirk isn't re-signed by 4, I will be taking a week off from sports sites. Don't want to read 100 articles shitting on the Redskins.

Why not make The Warpath your "go to" site for shitting on the Redskins? Here you will only need to read one thread to get your fill.
