Re: The FINAL Kirk Cousins Saga thread. 5.0
Jesus Christ.
How would the fan base have reacted if we had Colt McCoy as our starter, and some street free agent dipshit as our backup (remember, Sudfeld was on the Eagles at that point).
I completely understand that. My comment originated from Mattys post about Cooley making a good point that they should have traded him before the deadline this year or last year. SD skins called it hindsight and I am simply saying that was only three months ago and they were probably pretty well sure that KC was going to be gone one way or another by than. So I guess take up ur beef with Cooley. Lol. |

I just don't understand how Skins fans dog a QB that in 3 years performed better than all most any QB in the league. this year was probably his best year when you factor in injuries, lack of WR support, lack of a running game and a HORRIBLE Defense. Go back to last year and the games the D lost in the 4th quarter. if our D was half as good as it actually was we win 10-11 games and aren't having this discussion. I have been a skins fan for a LONG time and I can never remember having a guy under center that legitimately gives us a chance to win every game. As an organization - you want to win. Bruce and Dan just seem to crap in the face of the fans and the overall betterment of the team. Bruce gets rid of not 1, but 2 1000 yard receivers!! And to me, was done to undermine kirk to try and prove he wasn't worth the franchise money. Egos shouldn't get in the way of doing what is best for the organization and it continuously does with these idiots.
Amend to that mate. Big Cuz never got the respect he was due here. Some were to quick to give up on him and the ones who did more than likely never gave up on RG3. Coincidence? I think not. I'm sure Kirk will do well with the team that signs him. Wherever that is it implies sure he will be fantastic. I only hope we can say the same of Alex Smith? |

Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
Let me ask you guys this, can they force Cousins to only be traded? I mean doesn't he have to sign something? What if he tells Dan and Bruce, "i'm not signing anything". If they slapped another tag on him, would that force him to sit out the entire 2018 season? |
Re: The FINAL Kirk Cousins Saga thread. 5.0
Cousins would have all the leverage, tagging him would be a disaster

Trade him to Cleveland for number 4 pick.

Kirk has to sign a tender to be traded. He has no incentive to do so now. Why not sit out, and train, for $34 mil? Skins FO would be even more of a laughingstock than they already are. The exclusive franchise tag would be beyond stupid, even for Allen and Snyder. The non-exclusive franchise tag would make it beyond stupid for any other team to sign Kirk. $34 mil and two 1st rd picks? Of course, look what the Skins gave up for RGIII... The transition tag limits Kirk's salary to "only" 28 mil, but the Skins get no compensation. I think tagging Kirk now would be pure, transparent, counter-productive spite on Allen and Snyder's part, unless there's some trade option I don't know. And Kirk is still laughing all the way to the bank. He earned it the past couple years. |
Re: The FINAL Kirk Cousins Saga thread. 5.0
It’s not going to happen.

Re: The FINAL Kirk Cousins Saga thread. 5.0
Good luck ever signing a free agent if they try this dumb maneuver. If BA is even thinking about it, it should be a fireable offense. We’d get completely hosed.

We slap the franchise tag on Kirk for 34 million this season, but also complete our trade with Alex Smith and legally sign him when the new league year begins. So that means Cousins is getting his 34 million, and Alex Smith in his first year is getting around what, 22 million? How Much will this affect our salary cap, how much will be available for other players if we have 56 million tied up in two quarterbacks? I don't know the cap part but i imagine this would be brutal, as well as make us more of a laughing stock than we already are. |

Have to hear from MTK, Scheed, or some other knowledgeable poster about the cap. I assume this Bizarro World scenario would cripple our free agency this year. Maybe even have to cut players just for cap relief. |
Re: The FINAL Kirk Cousins Saga thread. 5.0
If the team applies tag we’re on the hook for his $34M. It’s just not a realistic situation, we wouldn’t be able to make any moves until he was traded. Honestly I don’t even know why this story is being floated out there since it’s just not plausible.

Yeah exactly this makes no sense. The second the tag is applied he counts $34M, taking us from $36M in space currently to $2M. So on March 14 when free agency opens, we wouldn’t be able to make a single FA move, not resigning Zach Brown, not Breeland, heck probably can’t even fit Will Compton under that cap. So the only approach for the Skins would be to apply the tag on February 20, then try to trade him, and then if he’s not traded by March 14 they would have to remove the tag and set him free. That cap situation makes their position incredibly transparent. If I can look at their cap and understand that they would lose out on Zach Brown and every other FA, so can John Elway and every other GM. So that’s the Redskins’ position, let’s think about Kirk’s. In the past when tagged, he has signed it right away and played on it. In order to be traded, he would have to sign the tag. If he doesn’t sign it, he can’t be traded (CBA rules). If he’s traded he would have less say in where he goes. So of course financially, he’d rather get to free agency where a bidding war could ensue. Then, if money’s not as important, he may decide he’d rather be in a winning spot. In such a case, he wouldn’t want a team like Denver to give up pieces it could use to surround him with talent. So being traded really is the last thing he’d want. The only reason for him to play ball with the Skins is out of the goodness of his heart. He won’t do that. It’s incredibly transparent this is going nowhere. As long as Kirk doesn’t sign the tag, the Skins can’t trade him, and thus the Skins get no free agency. They will apply the tag on Feb 20 and see if he signs it. If he does, then they’re in business and a trade becomes likely. But I think there is no way he will sign it. He’ll wait them out, and they’ll pull the tag off of him. It’s worth a shot I guess, since there is time between Feb20 and March 14. But we all know this ends with no trade and a free Kirk Cousins. |
Re: The FINAL Kirk Cousins Saga thread. 5.0
Only way this could work is if Kirk wants to leave amicably and decides to throw the Redskins a bone (which he has no incentive to do so). Whose to say he hasn't made his decision, Vikings are A. and Broncos are B. Maybe he wants to play nice (goes against all logic, yes I know) and says he is fine with being traded to his destination of choice instead of waiting until FA. Then the Redskins allow him/agent to negotiate a LTD with Vikings (if they are interested), then once they agree Vikes agree to send us a first rounder or something, we tag Kirk, file paperwork to trade him to Vikings and he gets his long term deal as part of it. It's doable (but I'm 99% sure it won't) but only if Kirk decides to throw us a bone. Or to put it into relateable terms, I gave the same odds to the Falcons losing with a 28-3 lead last year. TL;DR: Don't get your hopes up, but never say never.

Why would Kirk screw over the team he wants to go to, forcing them to give the Skins draft picks? Instead of just signing with them as a FA? |
