Re: Trent Williams holding out for new deal
Trade him before the trade deadline of Oct 29. All those who want TW to "be punished" for not honoring his contract are punishing the future Redskin's HC and Dwayne Haskins. Trent IS NOT going to play here either this year or next. Get over it and trade him for a 1st rounder who will replace TW in the OL. But I know Dan Snyder - he's petty and incompetent. He'd rather punish TW then thinking of the future. No one in the NFL respects Dan Snyder as an owner or personnel manager. He's considered the worst owner in the NFL. This buffoonery just reinforces those perceptions of him and of Bruce Allen .

Re: Trent Williams holding out for new deal
I think waiting till the off season will cause his value to drop. Teams will look at the draft first other than trading for a player getting up in the years who has battled injuries and has a huge cap number. The max value for Trent would be trading him now to a contender having issues at left tackle. Bruce Allen is an idiot.

There's absolutely no chance that any offer would be higher during the offseason for a player having 1 year left on his contract in a situation where teams will have many options, versus now for a player having 2 years left in a situation where LT needy teams have very few options... Beyond stupid. |
Re: Trent Williams holding out for new deal
What would his contract situation be? two full years left, it might make him more desirable
And Allen punishes Trent with the loss of a full years pay. |

Yes, 100% absolutely. Bruce knows that football-wise, his decision to not trade him during the season makes no sense. But this is Bruce's way to punish Allen for speaking out. And i'm sure Dan backs it 100%. |
Re: Trent Williams holding out for new deal
This is really all on Dan. If he wanted to pull the trigger he'd tell his lackey bitch to make a move. It's that simple. Bruce reports to Dan.

From what I've read, the current feeling from people close to him is that he won't come back week 10 and is committed to never playing for this team again. If that's the case, and he does have 2 years left on his contract in 2020, then i actually think holding him until the offseason to trade is the right approach. However, if he DOES come back week 10, then we absolutely should move him for what we can get now. |

Envoyé de mon SM-J320FN en utilisant Tapatalk
I agree that would be a nightmare scenario for us, but its not necessarily in Trent's interest to do so. As far as we know, the Browns are the only team interested in trents services now, and we don't really know what they've offered. Unless Trent is DYING to play for the Browns, it might be in his long-term best interest to sit out the entire year. Then, the team could give his agent permission to talk to other teams in the offseason - 32 teams vs. just the browns. this would create more of a market and ability for trent to work out the framework for a potential extension prior to the trade. |

I hope he doesn't. That's 12MM in cap space we can roll over to next year if he doesn't. |

Re: Trent Williams holding out for new deal
He might come in and play hurt and draw his check. Therefore the skins lose out again in that he would be back and draw his check, get another year of service and cost the skins salary cap, but not actually play.

Re: Trent Williams holding out for new deal
TW is not coming back and has said so repeatedly. I see zero chance he comes back in week 10 or the next preseason.
Someone said only the Browns were interested in TW. WRONG! The Texans sold the farm to get a OT from Miami who hasn’t done anything this season. Any team in the playoff hunt who has OL Problems would be VERY interested NOW in the best OT in the NFL. We can get a first round draft pick and maybe more if they would just offer him up. BA should also be offering a bunch of players who won’t be here next year: TW Kerrigan Moses Norman Scherff Richardson McCoy Keenum We can still rescue this terrible year by getting rid of the dead wood for draft picks. Will we do it? Nope. Why not? Because BA and Snyder are incompetent and have no real plan for the future, except “win NOW”. The Dolphins May be bad, but at least they have the draft picks to rebuild next year. The Redskins are bad AND they have no plan to get better. Snyder is like a deer in the headlights... The people who wanted to trade him when he was first holding out were definitely in the minority, especially those that said he was paid plenty for his age and games missed. Things have changed. |

Sanu fetches a second round pick? LOL...the values for players right now are much higher than they will be for the offseason and its NOT close.
Its criminal we aren't actively working the phones for TW and Kerrigan. |

Right now the only team rumored to be interested in Trent is the browns. If we wait until the offseason, there will be more of a trade market than there is now, which means we could probably get more for him. I don't agree we should be trying to move Kerrigan. He's still young, extremely talented, a leader on the team, and one of the few players that seems to actually want to be here. If we are ever going to build a good culture here, he's a veteran we're going to want to have around. Even if someone offered a first for him, I wouldn't take it. We used our two first rounders this year on two players who, so far, appear to be busts - or at least not worthy of where they were drafted. Kerrigan is a proven thing. Id much rather have him than gamble on another first rounder with a front office that seems incapable of hitting on first round picks. |

We are seeing it happen 3 times in the last week capped today with sanu with a second...completely an over pay. We should at least attempt to make a trade for TW. If we don’t like it, then don’t take it and wait til the offseason. But if it’s a first round plus an additional pick, it would be foolish to turn it down. New England offered a first. Browns call every week? This offseason more players will be available in the draft and free agency at Tackle...it’s economics. I don’t understand why you want Kerrigan past his prime playing on 11 million for a team going thru a rebuild. You could get a 3rd or 2nd in this market, you take it to continue a rebuild. The only explanation is you want to extend him...past his prime extension that will cost 10 million plus a year? It simply doesn’t make sense. He hasn’t been very good this year. |

Scherff was offered a contract that would value him as 2nd highest paid guard in NFL, I don't see how that is a lowball offer? I'm certain Scherff's agent told him to wait for new CBA agreements, which is a smart move on their end. |
Re: Trent Williams holding out for new deal
Then why didn't he sign the offer to be one of the top paid guards in the NFL?
It was leaked that they offered 13M per but we dont know the guaranteed money. The avg per year means nothing. Also the guaranteed money offered is kinda window dressing when a player is on an option or tag year. Hypothetical Example - prior to the 2019 season, the Redskins offered Scherff 4 yr 52M extension with 25M guaranteed. Problem is 12.5M of that guaranteed money offered is already guaranteed to Scherff in 2019 bc of his 5th year option. if Scherff signs, he gets 25M guaranteed over 2 years, then plays the remaining 2 years on a team friendly contract where if he is seriously injured, the team can cut him and not have any real cap implications. Thus he plays 2 years, gets injured .. he actually just signed a 2 yr 25M contract. If Scherff doesnt sign the extension, he gets 27M guaranteed over 2 years (12.5M in 2019 on 5th yr option, 15M on tag for 2020) and then Scherff will be a FA and not subject to playing 2 more years under team control with little say so on whether he is injured, abruptly cut etc .. https://www.hogshaven.com/2019/9/23/20880688/report-redskins-offered-brandon-scherff-contract-extension-worth-more-than-13-million-per-year https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/bruce-allen-redskins-offered-kirk-cousins-53-million-but-he-prefers-franchise-tag/ While the Skins would love to pretend like the guaranteed money they offer is new found guaranteed money .. it really isnt. You have to discount it against what the player would get if they dont sign and play on the option and then tag. edit - I imagine if the extension kicks in after the 5th year option, the numbers might change a bit .. not smart or motivated enough to do the math on that. |
