Depends which players are available. If the good safeties/corners are gone why reach for one that won't have nearly the impact that Escobar might have. It all depends on who is available at the time. Don't do what the Patriots do with corners/safeties, because it obviously never works. Every other position they draft the best player available, yet they reach for corners and safeties and it fails miserably. All depends who falls to the Skins. |
If he is able to be a day one starter and put up solid numbers immediately. I could live with it.
Otherwise, I agree.
If he wasnt a day one starter, way bigger mistake in 2nd round. You go with Paulsen and look at a vet and there are solid TE in the 4th, 5th round. |

Starters yes, but the type of impact Escobar might potentially have would be greater than what might be available. It's not just about finding starters to fill needs, its about finding the best players and getting them on your team. If a player like Trufant, or Elam is available, I would go with them, because they are greater players than Escobar, but if its between Thomas from Syracuse, Alford or Escobar because everyone else was taken, I would go with Escobar. Redskins can improve on pretty much every position except QB and RB. |
Can't block but I would be very happy with that pick.
They said his blocking is very coachable. He played at a small school so his coaching and competition isn't NFL caliber. Give him to our TEs coach and hell make him a good/better blocker. Plus Fred couldn't block so it's not a droppoff from what we had. Improvement in my eyes. |

I made a football related post! |

I concur. Said the same thing about Gronkowski coming out stating that is run blocking is inconsistent. Now he is one of the better run blocking tight ends in the league. Hopefully they coach run blocking better for him than they did for Fred Davis. |

I made a football related post!
RR breaking news now? WHAT HAS THIS WORLD COME TO?!!!?!?!?!? Seriously, I thought Tapp was a 4-3 end? I'm not sure he has any experience in a 3-4. |

Re: Around the NFL Free Agency Thread 2013
Daryl Tapp is basically a Chris Wilson replacement/ fill in for when rob "my tooth hurts" Jackson is suspended the first four games.

Re: Around the NFL Free Agency Thread 2013
And it must be true because it's posted in the other 2013 Free agency thread.
Double Tapp? |

I agree. I'd blow a gasket if we drafted a TE in the 2nd or 3rd. Our defensive secondary needs too much help to justify picking a TE for a offense that ranked near the top.(without davis) |
Todd McShay's newest mock draft has #Redskins drafting Gavin Escobar, TE, San Diego State at #51.
If we take a TE @ 51 , he better be the next coming of M. Bavaro or Kellen Winslow . I just hope we hit big on our first couple of picks ! |
Re: Around the NFL Free Agency Thread 2013
Thats obviously crap now that Davis has resigned.
FFS....we need the best safety available, I dont see any other way to go. |
