Re: Cousins 3.0, he's going to sign the franchise tag
Strong reasoning to not pay a guy you already paid $19m last year and are on the hook for $24m this? Not sure I'm seeing it.
Well. There was the Cardinals game, the Panthers game, and the Giants game. All three times setup for Cousins to prove the 'skins worthy of a playoff spot and him to solidify himself a franchise QB, and in all three games, he imploded. There was a lot riding on those games at the time, and I can see that being a point of resistance. At the same time, Cousins is clearly the best QB the 'skins have had in a very long time. I think he will have the most solid team built around him in a very long time as well, so I think Cousins has a great chance to prove his worth this season. Guess we'll know how it goes by 4:01pm. |

Re: Cousins 3.0, he's going to sign the franchise tag
If the man won't take anything less than every penny (his right to do) and/or doesn't want to be here, what is the point of keeping him around this year? Our chances of winning SB are extremely low, and I'd say damn near non existent with this cloud hanging over the team.
He's not going to accept any less next year and the situation will not be changed, except he'll be guaranteed even more money on either tag option. I don't care if he's better than McCoy or Sudfeld. I'd enjoy the season more without this cloud over our heads. |

well that's the main f-up. there isn't any viable plan b. But do you pay 80 mill in guarantee because of that? I think how the season ended provided doubt...if we make the playoffs the deal is already done imo. |

My point is, there are just as many good reasons not to sign Cousins long term as there is to sign him long term. We, Redskins fans, are looking at the reasons to sign him, and those reasons make sense and are justifiable. But, there are plausible reasons not to sign him to a long term contract. The one year deals concede that Kirk Cousins is good and that good quarterbacks are not easily found. However, long term deals say he's good enough to win Super Bowls. If you don't truly believe that, why would you give the guy a long term deal? |

#offseason you know I thought the comments would be crazier in here today. Outside of wishing Cousins would blowout both knees, its been relatively tame. |

Re: Cousins 3.0, he's going to sign the franchise tag
If it is going to take 24M to sign him to a LTD and the tag is 24M, Im really starting to think the smart move is to not sign him to a LTD and let this year play out. See how he does without McVay and Jackson/Garcon.
Even if he plays like he has the last 2 years, his value as a 30 year old would stay in the 24M per range. |

He likely will remain a top 11 qb, and will be paid by some team - maybe us - like where his value is at. (imo) Right now he wants to be paid long term at a point way above where his real value is. |
Re: Cousins 3.0, he's going to sign the franchise tag
1st team to ever franchise a QB twice. % of that being surprising. 0%!!
