Re: Patten to be released?
And lastly, how cheap Taylor Jacobs is has nothing to do with anything. The only reason to care about a player's cap figure is when you have other holes to fill on your team. The Skins have only two areas that could use upgrading, IMO. That's the offensive line depth and CB depth. But at this stage of the offseason, there is literally nobody available who would represent an upgrade at those positions (well Ty Law, but we couldn't afford him even if we cut Patten). So, since we can't do any upgrading, cap space is not an issue for us. You simply keep the best player.
Yes! Amen! I have been shouting this same sentiment on the board for a looong time about Patten. We are UNDER the cap. There is NO ONE to sign. Who cares if hes being paid "too much" to be a #4? |
Re: Patten to be released?
Isn't this the same thing they say about Taylor Jacobs yet you're ready to toss him out the door too. The difference is Jacobs plays special teams and is much, much cheaper.
Have you heard that patten WON'T play special teams? I haven't heard that myself. If he is willing , then I say keep him regardless of the money. What happens if our WR corps gets decimated with injuries? We will ens up in the same boat as last season. Would you be more comfortable with Jacobs or patten starting if injuries were to dictate that situation?

Yeah. I don't care if it's an inefficient use of Dan Snyder's money. I only care if it's an inefficient use of cap-space. There is a difference between the two. And keeping Patten would maximize the talent on the team, while keeping the team under the cap. That's efficient use of cap-space. |
It's because he's a major pussy, when the bullets start flying he hides in his litte shell like a turtle. He had plenty of chances last year to make an impact with Patten and Thrash both banged up. He didn't get it done.
They've already set aside a chunk of money to be able to sign those guys. Even after that, we're still safe under the cap. |

Re: Patten to be released?
Maybe TJ will grow a sack and live up to his potential.
Remember Stephen Davis? He needed some time at FB before he found out how to run with power. Perhaps TJ needs a similar smack in the face to wake him up. |

I'm a douchebag, and I'd be happy to punch Taylor Jacobs in the face. |
Re: Patten to be released?
i too am a douchebag, and i volunteer to hold him down for you.

Re: Patten to be released?
I think if Jacobs stays on the team, it is because Saunders has found a way to use him somehow differently then how we have been using him in the past. Patten seems like a team player now, but dont you guys remember all that smack he was talking during the season last year? Patten is a good receiver and i would hate to see him go, but couldnt we just trade him, instead of releasing him?

I would be careful to judge any WR in our offense the previous 2 years, Moss's ability to seperate from defenders regardless of whether or not they knew where he was going is IMO a big reason why he's the only WR to have any real success within the last 2 years. What made Patton so great last season? In fact he was complaining about his lack of success in our offense before he pulled a Jacobs and was put on the IR. What made him a desirable commodity was the Patriot offense and Tom Brady, if you believe Jacobs wouldn't be head and shoulders better right now playing in that offense instead of our's the last 2 seaons your only kidding yourself, this season will be a true test for Jacobs, I believe he will excell under Saunders, the only question is can he stay healthy? And that's a big if, but I do believe the talent is there to be a top #4 WR. I think the battle for the #4 spot will come down to value on specials, as I expect both players to really play well in the pre-season, and the fact that Patton is a veteran looking for significant playing time may winde him up else where but we will see. |
Re: Patten to be released?
Why is this year the big test for Jacobs vs. last year?
He had his chance last year and simply didn't step up at all. Patten is unquestionably the more accomplished and proven WR. That's not even debateable. Regarding injuries, Patten had a legitimate injury and the team put him on IR, he didn't take himself out of a game with a headache like Jacobs did. |
Re: Patten to be released?
Right, Jacobs might have all or MORE of the physical tools needed, but he just doesn't have it upstairs.
