Rutgers' Brian Leonard is a college fullback who would probably be drafted as an NFL power tailback. He might have gone first day if he came out last year, but this year he has been overshadowed by a Heisman caliber performance from Ray Rice. Also, NIU's Garrett Wolfe is a small guy with great speed and elusiveness, and could return kicks for us. These guys could both fall 3rd round or later, so theres no need to resign either Betts or Duckett. However its a buyers market for backs right now, so I expect them to let Betts and Duckett test the water, and sign back relatively cheaply.

about time. i agree that the steelers will probably look at TJ at the end of the year... seems to make sense.

nah, BL is going to be drafted as a V back, to block, run and catch... kinda like griffith in atlanta or alstott in tampa... he'll probably still go towards the end of the first day.

and we won't have a 3rd round pick to use on an RB. we can FA sign a CB and draft a DE with our 1, then it's just roster fill, so resigning betts would be a good idea unless someone blows him away, which i doubt.

Gibbs should NOT announce these kind of coaching moves in the media.

1) Why publicly humiliate Portis and ruffle his feathers? The message you are putting out in the media is you are not doing it we will try someone else.
2) It gives our next opponent an advance on what we are doing. Why?
3) If Duckett fails Gibbs looks stupid. Just make the move don't telegraph it.

If we can execute, it won't matter if they know what's comming. Portis should welcome this cause he won't be getting his brains beat out. He'll just (hopefully) make the highlights.

It's not execution, it's lack of balance on offense.
The proof is in the recent superbowl winning teams, they have been balanced (pass/run) which makes them unpredictable. This causes the opposing defenses to be on their heels guessing.
One dimensional teams like Colts and Eagles (strong with the pass but average run) have come up short in the playoffs every year. The Patriots and Steelers won by running and passing and not being predictable.
Skins are good running the ball but inconsistant passing. So good teams stack the line and key on Portis. It is not Portis' fault or lack of execution, the defense has 8 to 9 guys playing the run against 6 blockers. We will lost that battle almost every time.
Our QB needs to make the defensive back 7 think about moving backwards.

Good God, man -- we have to draft defense next year, don't we?

Betts is as good as gone, and no way will the Skins let go of Duckett after what they gave up to get him. Cartwright will spend one more season in Washington, then he'll be elsewhere.

But the focus HAS to be on the defense -- 2 defensive linemen, 2 linebackers, 2 corners, a safety ... a complete overhaul is needed.

we've got 4 picks, and you can't count on a 5, 6, or 7 to be starters either.

I don't buy that the Steelers are balanced. The Colts run much more often than the Steelers pass!

I really hope we don't use a draft pick on a RB, we have two very capable backups as it is, why not just resign one of them??

I have this feeling we're going to waste two more late round picks are OL that we're just going to cut. Honestly, I feel like Bugel, if anyone, has had the game pass him by.
