Re: Pastabelly bashes J. Gibbs

I thought being a couple of games away from going to the Super Bowl in '05 was pretty good. And Gibbs did it with a QB like Brunell. Last year was an abberation. I can understand Gibbs' first year being somewhat rough seeing as it was a return after a long layoff. So really, last year was really the only bad year so far...
I hope you are wrong Daseal, but I understand all your points. Try to stay optimistic. Gibbs has a way of correcting things.

I think you are too harsh. This is a 17 paragraph story. Pasquarelli spends half of one paragraph saying what Gibbs has already said about himself.

Criticism, by itself, is not bashing.

Reguardless of the record, there isn't anyone in the world I would rather see showing this team. If anything, the impact on the players and fans he's had since returning. I felt so good about that first season he was back, just because he was there. It's good to look to the sidelines and see him kinda glaring into space. There comes a time though that you have to start wondering if there's someone better for the job, but I'm not there yet.

SEMPER JOE!!
First of all name one team that thinks it's OK TO LOSS NOW? OK BESIDES THE...RAIDERS
Of course he's tryin to win now....why wait till latter. I think last year was a huge suprise to all coming off a playoff birth in 05. Due to alot of key injuries and yes some bad personel desissions, it is what it is.

Back to Joe. This is what makes Joe the GREAT COACH he is, being able to come back from this type of advertisity, and moving the team to being better than anyone thought.

STAY TUNED. HE WILL GET IT DONE!
So if Gibb's does not bounce back from last year will it then be time for him to step down?

I think you guys are being way too harsh on Daseal, he is just expressing his position. No need for all the old guns to come in here and give their war stories and talk about how they use to walk uphill to and from school barefoot in the snow.

He is saying a couple legit things, especially about how Gibbs is giving away draft picks to win now, and it obviously has not been TOO successful, yet is still trying to do that now. We are gonna be ****ed in 08 and 09 with cap issues. As a common sense practical person he should have seen that, and stopped it now. It doesnt matter wtf his talent people say he always has the final say. Everyone keeps ranting about how us young people are forgetting about Gibbs and all that but the point still remains he has ****ED up with his free agency/lack of draft strategy.

I still love Gibbs and will support him with his record because I think he knows how to win, but he has ****ed up plain and simple and I don't see why you guys are going around that.
Every one of which has more talent than we do on their roster. And of course, the Bengals and Jaguars were only playoff teams once over that time. Seems like Gibbs II has done at least the job that Del Rio and Marvin Lewis have if not better.

Shanahan has a unique offensive system, very much like Gibbs, and comes to each game very prepared. But Shanahan's in game ineptitude has cost the Broncos a share of games that they should have won.

San Diego and Indianapolis have epicly GREAT players on their rosters. They have good coaches, but quite clearly, the players are what keeps the teams consistently successful.

Belicheck and Cowher are very solid coaches, but their organizations do a great job finding cheap talent which keeps them successful for a sustained period of time. I would throw Reid and the Eagles onto this list too, even though their 2005 was an injury riddled one.

It's no secret that the most successful coaches have the best players. Gibbs' roster hasn't been all that great since he returned. It could have been, but it wasn't.

Whenever a guy is away that long, there will be an adjustment period. I'm guessing by the point when Ramsey replaced Brunell in 2004, he was adjusted just fine. Gibbs has been holding up his end of the bargain for this whole time. Arguably, the head coach is responsible for some of the underachieving that has gone on here...but more accurately, the players are professionals. They have to be incharge of themselves. You can't blame Gibbs for not adequately babysitting these guys. If they aren't giving 100% every week, get new guys.
That's a very weak argument and really says Gibb's has not been able to find the talent, motivate the players, use the cap to find more low wage good players, hire good coaches etc (I hope your not an Atty.)... I thought that was his job as a coach? Oh' but its the other caoches that are doing all of this.
Don't get me wrong I'm glade Gibb's came back but his numbers are his numbers and right now they are below what they need to be. This will be the year for me and if Gibb's can produce a team that will bounce back from last year than I'll be happy.

Re: Pastabelly bashes J. Gibbs

The issue with Gibbs as team president is - he was and is still a little inexperienced. And to make it more difficult (for himself), he is head coach. That's 2 full-time positions, he is taking on - actually that's 2 over-time expected positions that he is taking on. Gibbs also seems to have expressed that he is a learn-by-doing type of person. The problem that he may be overlooking is - as team president, he never had the type of previous personnel background that made him so successful as a head coach.
Great leaders are never "done". It may take some time to "right the ship", but we did make the playoffs in 2005. Let's look at JG's track record: 3 Superbowl wins and 4 SB appearances in 11 years, with 3 different QBs, then transitioning to NASCAR and winning two Championships with different drivers. These championships are testaments to a man who can build and lead a team (with not necessarily the best talent) to victory.
The dynamics of building an NFL team have changed greatly since JG's first run, (salary cap) and the mess the Skins were in can't be fixed overnight (ownership change, coaching changes, Free Agent mistakes by the Daniel). But those of us who remember the 80s firsthand will have optimism as long as JG is here.

P.S. If ESPN sacked Joey T. from MNF, why the hell do they still let Pastabelly spew his crap, the guy is a fat, pompus idiot.
thanks slinging sammy you pretty much answered my question...
as long as joe is here anything is possible cause he built this franchise not tear it down like some other person i don,t feel like calling out but you mentioned his name...
i remember the 80,s like it was yesterday and boy i missed them days..

There's no question to me that gibbs makes the redskins better, he breaks his back for this team. I would probably cry if the left the team. But maybe he needs to get some experienced talent on the personnel side of things (that's a little funny getting some talent to find talent), so he can oversee and learn - instead of doing this on the coaching side of things.

Circumastances can dictate what makes a great leader, kind of like how an offensive line can affect a RB, a great offensive line can make a good back look great, and a bad offensive line can make a great back look orginary, but every once in a while a great back is so good he will make his yards no matter what. What we have with Gibbs could very well be a solid coach who was made great by the talent that Bobby Beathard supplied him with in the 80's, the fact is he's going on his 4th year and we are no closer to a championship than when he arrived, we are not a team ready to make that next step we have holes all over the place and now we are focusing on a LB? Gibbs will be in the not rebuilding mode for as long as he's running things, and so long as he's running things we will need to rebuild.

The only thing I can take from the 80's is what Gibbs had then and no longer has now, Bobby Beathard! No longer can Gibbs take the field and do whatever he wants because his offensive line would make anything work, so if Gibbs hasen't lost it as a coach, maybe he was never as good as we thought, because as of right now if he didn't have the credentials he has coming in he would have been fired after the first season, and if he made it this far some how he would be the absolute laughing stock of the NFL, as well as this board with the way he's conducted his personel decisions. And he's working over time to screw it up again, as I said before the dog alway's returns to his vomit, and he will find a way to screw up this draft even with only one legitamate pick.

You can hate Joe, or love Joe. Fact is, take away Joe's impact on the Washington Redskins, and we're the DAMN Bengals.
I think Joe turns it this season. Just for the record, I am one of the fans that will still be on his side side next season if he doesn't
without getting as long winded as you two, let me say first, i think Gibbs has earned the semi- free pass he has around here. ill take some mediocrity for 3 super bowl victories, any day. secondly, can you guys name one coach you would rather have here, right now, instead of coach Gibbs? i cant think of one. there are 2 issues that i have with coach Gibbs part 2. first, this man was a master at adjustments. where the hell have they been? and secondly, stop delegating. more of a hall of fame coach, and less of the assistants = more winning. one of the best days for me being a redskins fan is when the skins announced Gibbs was coming back. its time for him to step up, or ride off into the sunshine
The adjustments thing I totally agree with...now the delegating to assistants is some Gibbs did even back int he days of Gibbs 1.0. I remember watching the replay of the '87 Super Bowl and all they kept talking about is how many coaches Gibbs had on his staff and how much money they had spent on coaching. Now I will agree he's earned somewhat of a pass however even Gibbs himself said when he came back that those three ring don't mean a damn thing now.

But you forget to mention the most plausible reason for two losing seasons in the last three tries. Maybe he's just a great coach in a bad situation THIS time around.

Well I really had no cause to mention something like that, because the fact is he created whatever situation that we are in right now, so perhaps a bad situation for Gibbs is to allow him total control to make personel decisions?

Not defending Gibbs as a personel guy. Just as a coach.
