Re: RUMOR: Bruce Allen to Redskins?
to me this all comes down to the danny's growth as an owner & willingness to let go/admit mistakes. i.e.if Allen were hired & given the title 'GM' many people would say it's about time we got a GM.
However, if he doesn't have full authority over personel, which I question whether Vinny truly does, we've got the same issues. Having said that, a hiring of Allen & letting go of Vinny might be a sign of major positive change by the Danny. But simply hiring another guy w/some name recognition does not convince me that true change is underway.
I think it was pretty much stated this past offseason that Vinny would be the football boss. Hence the whole accountability issue and Snyder giving him "another year" to turn things around. I think at some point you gotta stop the paranoia/hate, and just go with what's been said by the team. I don't know if Snyder has relinquished his involvement with player contracts, but I think Vinny is in charge of who gets acquired through free agency and draft picks. |
Re: RUMOR: Bruce Allen to Redskins?
This does not pass the smell test....but having said that I would like to see some new ideas come to the front office. My biggest question is ....is there anyway Snyder is trying to figure out how to bring Allen in as a GM, keep Cerrato in the position he is in with his fancy name title, and have Allen kinda teach Cerrato the ropes. I know it's a horrible way to think but I can't see Snyder letting his man Cerrato go but I can see Cerrato being a buffer between him and possibly a GM. Even if we did this it would be nice to have fresh ideas about some of the contract stuff but if all it will accomplish is friction between upper management as to how to: which particular player we should go after or draft or how the contract should be written then we could do without. Let Cousin Vinny and Zorn have their extra year and if it does not work out move on.
but ...I wonder if Snyder is not wanting to pass up on another great mind and have Allen in the wings if Cerrato/Zorn can't get the job done. Because who knows who will be available a year from now? GM wise. |

Plus what kind of message does it send. Also like you said, who knows who's available next year. I think if you bring in a Vinny replacement, you fire Vinny. So there is no cross contamination:) I can't see were this guy fits in honestly. But anythings possible I guess. |
Re: RUMOR: Bruce Allen to Redskins?
frankly, he has to be an upgrade, i know that sounds horrible and void of rationality, but really, Vinny has to cede some authority, his system hasn't worked- he's never fielded a team with a LEGITIMATE chance at winning a superbowl (eking into the playoffs doesn't count in my mind).

Re: RUMOR: Bruce Allen to Redskins?
Personally I think I would rather wait a year, see how Vinny does, pray he doesn't give up any of next years picks and then if he fails go after a guy like Eric DeCosta during next years offseason, all the while promising him full autonomy over football operations. Either way there's very little chance of Bruce Allen replacing Vinny short of a tradgedy. Knock on wood.
What is Bruce Allen's resume like exactly?
Bruce Allen sucks he was more of a problem in Tampa than Gruden with his QB collection IMO. I stay in Tampa so everyone here was celebrating last week when both of them got fired. |

That maybe but atleast he has the Bucs 40 something Mill under the CAP. Every year Vinny has us approximatly 10 Mill over and we have to work wonders to get under then mortgage our future on over the hill players. |
Re: RUMOR: Bruce Allen to Redskins?
How many draft picks will this cost us?

Allen is supposedly good with money, but them being so far under the cap has more to do with the Glazer unwillingness to spend money than any magic Allen has. I think most GMs would prefer an owner willing to spend money |

You're right. I mean let's look at the past four years 2004: 5-11 2005: 11-5 (eliminated in Wild Card round) 2006: 4-12 2007: 9-7 (lose 3 of last 4 but still make the playoffs...only to get eliminated in WC round 2008: 9-7 (lose last 4 games to miss the playoffs) Oh wait...that's the Bucs under Bruce Allen |

Re: RUMOR: Bruce Allen to Redskins?
I think Allen's a decent executive and if you all you want is change for the sake of change then he's fine, but if you want change for the sake of improvement then you can do a lot better than Allen

I completely agree. Hell if all we want is change for the sake of change I want to throw my name into the hat. Give me a call, Danny. Wait til you see my Madden franchise. |

They are mad cheap. No play makers on offense. Their offense is just lousy and it is not just the playcalling that made it so bad it was also because of the lack of talent they failed to pick up. I heard the owners are looking for a buyer. |
