Re: Glaring Need / Roster
As it stands right now. Some of these guys are camp fodder but most have played for us or we're scheduled to play and have been signed. I've placed these guys here according to who I think is going to do what next season; it's not official. I have left out a few guys who I think they might cut (Thrash).
LWR: Santana Moss, Malcolm Kelly TE: Chris Cooley, Fred Davis, Todd Yoder LT: Chris Samuels, Devon Clark LG: Derrick Dockery, Chad Rhinehardt C: Casey Raback, Will Montgomery RG: Randy Thomas, Anthony Batiste RT: Stephon Heyer, John Jansen RWR: Antwaan Randal El, Devon Thomas QB: Jason Campbell, Colt Brennan, Todd Collins FB: Mike Sellers RB: Clinton Portis, Ladell Betts, Rock Cartwright CB: DeAngelo Hall, Fred Smoot, Byron Westbrook LDE: Rynaldo Wynn, Rob Jackson, Alex Buzbee LDT: Cornelius Griffin, Lorenzo Alexander RDT: Albert Haynesworth, Antony Montgomery RDE: Andre Carter, Chris Wilson CB: Carlos Rogers, Justin Tryon LOLB: Alfred Fincher ? ILB: London Fletcher, H.B. Blades ROLB: Rocky McIntosh, Tyson Smith? SS: Laron Landry, Mike Green FS: Chris Horton, Reed Doughty, Kareem Moore KR: Rock Cartwright, Devon Thomas, Malcolm Kelly K: Suan Suisham, H: Zac Atterberry P: Zac Atterberry LS: Ethan Albright PR: Malcolm Kelly, Santana Moss, Malcolm Kelly Feel free to chop it up if you see a f-up.
I don't see Brennan overtaking Collins as the backup this season. We are about to re-sign Daniels for LDE. Since when is Kelly a return man? You've got him on KR and PR (twice). Did you mean Thomas in one of those spots? |
Re: Glaring Need / Roster
We need to sign a strong side linebacker.

As I said, if you see something that you don't agree with then change it how you see fit. Kelly or was it the other WR needs to be a return man because the other option is James Thrash. Daniels isn't resigned yet. You miss my point even though you knowingly or unknowingly reinforced it. We have plenty of DEs now and the glaring need / hole is OLB. |
Re: Glaring Need / Roster
good post. i agree.

Re: Glaring Need / Roster
Taking a break from all the Cutler hoopla, here's an update from JLC on Marcus Washington. I do hope we get him back for cheap. While this would not solve our LB problems, it could definitely put us in a better position.

Re: Glaring Need / Roster
People seem to have forgotten how terrible our offense looked last year, and aside from Dock, we haven't done one thing to improve it. I would draft as many quality O-lineman as possible. I'd love an LB like Clint Sintim from UVA, but rather get a starting caliber OT and G/C. I'd be OK with letting Blades handle the SLB position this year, and then draft a monster next year. Blache has more to work with at this point than Buges, and if the offense doesn't progress significantly this year, look out.

I had Ramses Barden in mind. I honestly hope Kelly and Thomas end up working out for us and catching a lot of balls but to have someone who is 6'-6" able to go after the jump balls or corner endzone passes would be awsome. They say he's not a speedster so he will not push out Kelly or Thomas and they say he needs to refine his route running so he would be someone we could work with to develope and utilize perhaps on field goals to help block(maybe his height will enable him to swat opponants kicks) and maybe as a possession WR in the endzone. |

I love the idea of drafting as many O-lineman as possible but by all accounts after the top 1-3 players there is a significant drop off in talent. Meaning they probably will not be starters unless a team really has no talent there. Most will need maybe a yr under their belt prior to starting. Aside from that I truly wonder if RT is drafted if they would immediatly start them. Jansen is getting old and worn down but is a good back up. Heyer was the starter last yr only cause he beat out Jansen, but if you think a rookie is going to come in and out perform a 3rd yr RT with as many starts as Heyer has and know the system and call better then Heyer I would say you might be crazy. I could be wrong. I see Heyer as starter no matter what and if he goes down then perhaps if the rookie is better then Jansen then they would go in. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying Heyer is all that just saying Heyer has 3yrs under his belt and the game should be slowing down for him because he's up to NFL speed and it would be his second yr in the same offense so he knows the play calls. |

I don't know how many teams either of those guys could start for, but it can't be more than a couple. O line is typically a position where good rookies can come in and play right away. There are countless examples, but ATl. got a good one w/our 21st pick last year in Sam Baker. And he started all year at LT for them. |

Right, but didn't he have back surgery that caused him to miss a huge chunk of games? He probably would have been a regular starter if not for injury from my understanding. |
Re: Glaring Need / Roster
I think the center position is being over-looked. I mean I hope it was just a rough season for Casey. Anyway the guys on nfl radio were really talking up caldwell from alabama. And also said he could drop to the 3rd round. Would you take him there?

Sure, but that doesn't change the fact that he didn't start all year at LT for them |
