Re: Will Jason Campbell return?
I don't know. I was going to say something like it all depends on Zorn. If Zorn returns next yr. If Zorn truly is lobbying for him. If the team tries to hire another big named QB next yr. The great QB's even when faced with adversity find a way to shine or get the job done. I don't think we have seen that with JC. I think he's a really good QB but perhaps just not great. He shows flash's that he could be great like the first 8 games last yr then when adversity hits like the last 8 games we get simply good JC.
If he shows improvement like he did last yr for the first 8 games, and can somewhat sustain it through out the season, then I can see DS giving him another contract. I just don't think it will be as fat as his original one is and I can see JC balking. I also believe the front office is no different then the people on here. I'll bet some think he's the bomb. Others probably think he suck. and yet others probably think he's good enough to get the job done untill one of the great ones comes available or show up in the draft. I don't know if Sanchez would have been better or not but I bet they thought so. Which is why he was courted. Every QB has a flaw though and it's the coach's job to either hide it as much as possible or if your the opponent utilize it. I think JC's was discovered and utilized. Hopefully Zorn can fix the problem as best he can with the shorter drops and quicker releases.
I think that Campbell did well in the first 8 games but maybe not amazing or great. We just had enough rolling that we won, which kind of fits in with what you're saying about great QBs making things happen on your own. |
Re: Will Jason Campbell return?
I am with you Matty, but it all depends on this season, that is it. If JC sucks or is just average like last season it is bye bye JC and hello Colt(either Brennan or McCoy). If he is just average this season, it won't matter if he stays or goes, as it will mean the O line has failed again and the WRs suck ass again. If those things happen we are back to square one and might as well clean house.
I remembering during the draft analysis one guy was talking about QBs coming out next year and said that McCoy is a system QB and won't translate to the NFL at all and that Sanchez had the better shot. Now I don't watch college football much but that doesn't seem to echo what a lot of other people think. Can anyone explain why that analysis may have been correct or incorrect? |
Re: Will Jason Campbell return?
jc and zorn are gone if they go 8-8 again.................heres what i want to happen we go 2-5 the first 7 games because jc sucks it up then we say screw it and give colt a shot and leads us to a 10-6 record and a deep playoff run wishful thinking but its the nfl anything is possible
So you're hopefull that Campbell stinks and that Colt will become the next HOF QB or what? |
Re: Will Jason Campbell return?
I'll answer only because I'm new here (even though I've answered this & had a dozen fights over it on another Redskins site)...
I like Campbell. I think he's better then the "haters" give him credit for. Jaws had him as the MVP of the League halfway thru the season last year. What people fail to realize often times is that no matter who we have at QB, if he spends 3 of 4 passing plays running for his life or staring up at the sky, he isn't going to succeed. The OL was the biggest issue we had after week 9 & seemingly 6 blockers could not stop 3 blitzers for the remainder of the season. The RBs, TEs, most of the WRs were not available to make catches because they were now employed to help protect Campbell so that he could throw to the only 1 or 2 WRs left that were NOT occupied by blockers. And with that came less time to throw, which meant less time to go thru progressions which often led to a 1 to 3 step drop back & quick out to Moss, Cooley, or ARE. That said, I do NOT think Campbell will be back next year, regardless of what happens. I don't think this FO has learned all of it's lessons in this area & this offseasons activities has shown us yet again that their lack of faith in him can deteriorate fast. I think Campbell will have a break out season & prove the "haters" wrong...and then thumb his nose at us & go somewhere else to get away from the enormous pressure that comes with being the starting QB for the Washington Redskins that seemingly does not exist in other cities, at least not at this level. Now, I am NOT a Jason Campbell fan in the sense that I think he's the greatest thing since sliced bread. What I am a fan of is consistency & sticking with the team that we have & stopping the merry-go-round to allow what we have in place to settle. If you look at the winning franchises in the League, you don't see the revolving door that exists here. The coaches, the QBs, most of the core guys are there year in & year out. The Colts, Patriots, Steelers, Eagles, Giants...all have remained with the coaches & QBs they have had for the last several years. The Steelers had a coach that didn't win a Super Bowl until his 15th season with them. That never would have happened here. We, as a fanbase, but more importantly, the FO would not have tolerated such failure & would have ousted Cowher in 3 or 4 seasons. They also have a QB that had the worst QB rating for a winning QB in the Super Bowl. The very next offseason, he did a faceplant into some woman's windshield & the Steelers stuck by him anyway. We would have clammered to trade his dumb ass for doing something so stupid as to nearly kill himself trying to be a stuntman without a helmet. My point is, I would like the merry-go-round to stop & allow someone the opportunity to develop into a great QB instead of believing, falsely, that we can trade for or draft one that will make an immediate impact that hasn't been seen here before. In the 30 years I can remember watching football, I have NEVER seen the Redskins draft a QB or pick one up in FA that made that kind of impact on the field right away...except Heath Shuler. And that wasn't the kind of impact we were looking for. So, my answer is, no, Campbell will not be here next year, despite that I would like to see him here for another 5 seasons, if not longer.
welcome to the warpath and nice post |
Re: Will Jason Campbell return?
Time heals all wounds, and of course a big payday doesn't hurt as well. I don't see JC snubbing his nose at the Skins, he's too classy for that as he has shown through this entire offseason debacle.
Plus, would he really want to go start over in yet another new offense with another team? If he has a big year and earns a nice payday, I think he'll take the money and the personal satisfaction that he proved Snyder wrong. |

Misguided, but honest. You actually want the team to g0 2-5? |
Re: Will Jason Campbell return?
He starts off the year flat and Collins comes in and goes down with injury. Colt comes in and wins 8 games putting us in the playoffs as a wild card. He wins the wild card game with a late game scramble throwing the ball off his back foot as he is falling out of bounds hitting a wide open Moss. We loose the next game but Colt becomes our new the new starter.

I have seen nothing about JC that would make me think any different. |

And I thought I was intentionally throwing BS out there with my 12-4, All Pro prediction! |
