He is making more money than JC for crying out loud. His career season high numbers weren't that impressive to begin with. He is a slot reciever at best.
Hopefully ARE can be a slot receiver due to the emergence of Kelly and/or Thomas. I personally don't really care to see him in B&G anymore either, but we pulled our typical restructure move with him, so now he'd cost a fortune to cut, and we'd have to restructure someone else. I'm tired of that viscious circle. |

I agree that he's better served in the slot but if we released him (as you advocated) then what? We don't have anything better than him in house (although Thomas or Kelly should pass him during the season) and there's nothing better available on the market. Where's the logic in "release him"? |
Re: Updated: Redskins Release James Thrash
I like the kid from Nevada. Thye say he has strong hands and catches everything throw his way. He caught the TD pass from Colt, that was the 1st allowed by the defense in OTA's. it didnt say which unit it was.just that he was well covered on the play and still made the grab.

Where's the logic in "release him"?
It would force a younger player into the starting role. They either buckle or they flourish, but at least you would know what you got. |
Re: Updated: Redskins Release James Thrash
The Thrash release opens up a bit more cap room too...

Re: Updated: Redskins Release James Thrash
I'm pulling for Marko Mitchell and Keith Eloi. Both were reported to have been catching everything thrown their way. I also would like to see Jaison Williams somehow do well cause he's 6-5. Nice end zone threat.

Re: Updated: Redskins Release James Thrash
I forgot about Williams..
I would like to see either ARE be put in the slot or released myself. I just think that we are paying him too much for the amount of production that he has had.
Agreed, plus he only gives you one TD pass per season |
Re: Updated: Redskins Release James Thrash
anyone notice the big difference between this & Jansen's? Looks like they already have a job for him, or are working something out. If that's the case why didn't he just retire?
JJ insisted he could play more, wonder if they tried to keep him in the org. in some way? This team has been at least a couple years behind in starting a much needed youth movement but it's really underway now. This is the unfortunate consequence, they have to cut older vets. HOpefully thrash just retires w/his health. Great career, always appreciated him being a Redskin. |
Re: Updated: Redskins Release James Thrash
A youth movement was needed. im ready to see these young guys come into their own.

Re: Updated: Redskins Release James Thrash
Can't believe I didn't check my RSS reader earlier; didn't get an alert but I usually check it every 15 mins or so. Wow; can't say it wasn't expected though. Congratulations to him and I hope that he's okay with it. I wonder if they asked him if he wanted to retire first and as part of that, if he thinks that he can still play elsewhere.

ARE Thomas Kelly Mitchell Cant wait to see these guys in the preseason.
Any word on Mitchell's route running? I know when he came in they said that it was a weak point. Could be a tough battle between him, Eloi, Roydell Williams, etc |
Thanks James for being the type of player I enjoy pulling for. Would love to see James stick around as a coach for the young wide outs.
I'd say a start like a QC coach on that side and an assistant special teams coach would be great. He knows how to field both types of returns, he knows how to attack returns, etc. |
Re: Updated: Redskins Release James Thrash
Does anyone know the level of input that Zorn has had in this transaction and in Jensen's release? I'm just curious to know how much of a say he's had, especially since his name has come up when both of these players were released (i.e. Zorn talked to Jensen and Thrash, etc., etc.). I'm wondering if Zorn in his second year is getting more of a saying in player transactions.
Well who do you think that they're going to talk to about it? I know that there are personnel guys but do people expect to have Vinny out there on the sidelines releasing people? I'm sure it was a joint decision by the coaches and then when failing the physical it was basically guaranteed to happen. |
Re: Updated: Redskins Release James Thrash
I hate to see Thrash go, but I got the sense the Zorn regime didn't think as highly of Thrash compared to Gibbs, and I think that's the same with Jansen. I am glad to see some competion at the WR position, (even though everyone except Moss should be competing). I have a feeling Jaison Williams will win the #5 job. He has good size and deceptive speed for his frame (6'5 240) and pretty good stats at a major conference.
