Re: Did D. Hall Just Blast Zorn and the Inept Offense?
I listened to the interview on ESPN and in no way did he blast the offense. He blasted himself when he said he fell in the endzone when they scored the TD. I thought he was classy and said all the right things. He didn't blame the fans, said he understood where we were coming from being pissed that they were one big play away from winning the game, or hell even a field goal away from winning. I hope that this doesn't get blown up to the be he blasted the offense and Jim Zorn, in no way was he negative about the offense on Zorn.

We've known it for years now
all zorn says is that the plays werent executed properly!!!!!!!!! I MEAN HELLO!!!!!!!!!! im sure if every play was executed to perfection it would work because when they drew it up it was intended to work
True; you have to coach your players with what they can execute well and I haven't seen that in several years. If it's always an execution issue why do we keep so many of the same players? |
Re: Did D. Hall Just Blast Zorn and the Inept Offense?
Zorn went for it on 4th down, got them close and the offense couldn't punch it in. That's taking risks. We were 0-5 in the redzone. Zorn can take some of the blame not all the blame.
Completely agree. However, despite how much Zorn wants to be able to smash mouth in the red zone, I don't think we have the personnel to do it. |
Re: Did D. Hall Just Blast Zorn and the Inept Offense?
It wouldn't matter if he did. Everybody saw the game. Hell, find someone who's not blasting Zorn. I'm one of the most loyal Redskins fans and I don't approve of the Week 2product. We do have the personnel to light up the scoreboard in the RZ. We have everything, Pro Bowl TE, FB and RB, three WR's over 6'2" and a 6'5" QB. I think the Redskins will put up 35 vs the Lions.

he is right. but... it takes alot of balls coming from him. hasn't done anything( but the one pick)
He is making excuses cause he trying to say the offense sucks. He/I have to be perfect cause if we give up one score we may lose. No one plays perfect so why say that? Don't make excuses for the offense to justify your poor play. Just say I got beat and I gotta do better next time w/out mentioning the offense.
Your D. Hall hate is showing. Nothing he said was covering up for anything. |
Your D. Hall hate is showing. Nothing he said was covering up for anything.
While I truly think that DeAngelo said nothing wrong here, let's not act like he wasn't trying to offer a potential excuse for future things going wrong. He was absolutely right: there's not a whole lot of margin for error when you play the Rams. He gave up one TD. If he had given up a second, we probably would have lost. He's absolutely 100% right.
Of course, don't ignore that the offense isn't responsible for giving Hall enough of a cushion to completely suck as an NFL db, and still play on a winner. Hall took responsibility for his poor play, but he's on a razor thin margin right now between acceptable and unacceptable coverage. The reason that there's no margin for error has little to do with the offense. NFL cornerback is a ridiculously difficult position. You need multiple players who can play it well. Hall has to show he belongs in that category. |
Re: Did D. Hall Just Blast Zorn and the Inept Offense?
I sure hope D Hall does not return to his old ways.

Re: Did D. Hall Just Blast Zorn and the Inept Offense?
He's just stating the obvious. If the Skins are going to win, it's going to be because of the Defense. He's just holding them accountable. Now if he was really being truthful, he would have said the D needs to score 1-2 TDs a game in order for them to have any chance of beating a half-way decent team.

Re: Did D. Hall Just Blast Zorn and the Inept Offense?
I didn't see anything wrong w/ Hall's comments, in fact I thought they were measured and thoughtful. I bet anything most of the defense feels just as he spoke: there is not margin for error because a single touchdown allowed i.e. 7 points, may result in a team loss.
I am starting to wonder how much players are considering the bigger picture, that is how awful the intuition/talent/thought-process within the FO must be to have created this situation. Many of the guys on the roster played under Gibbs/Williams. The FO boots two extremely talented coaches in Williams and Saunders for a guy w/ exactly zero OC/HC experience. Specifically, Williams had already been through the HC gamut once and probably learned a great deal from it and he had the respect of the roster. I clearly remember CP talking about how much he respected Williams and that's no small thing. ...my question is how long do players dedicate themselves when they recognize the real decision-makers within the organization can't get shit right? |
Re: Did D. Hall Just Blast Zorn and the Inept Offense?
I'm pretty sure Blache drills it into their heads that they shouldn't give up any TD's. That's certainly the mindset you'd like them to have.
We can call it "Grumpy Old Men 3" and laugh at the ensuing hijinks from 2 old farts who haven't played in over 30 years.
Those two old farts are both in the Hall of fame and Sonny has forgotten more about football than Jim Zorn ever learned. Only people on this team with a chance of the Hall right now could be Albert or Joe Bugel. I can remember when George Allen sent in a play, and Sonny ignored it changed the play and threw a touchdown. Allen benched him and put in Billy Kilmer. Don't forget, The Danny respects Sonny's opinion a great deal. |

You could make the same argument for Sam Huff but I sure as hell don't want him running our defense. As far as Sonny forgetting more about football than Zorn ever learned, I seriously doubt that. I do agree that Sonny has possibly forgotten a lot about football considering his age, but let's not forget that Zorn did pretty well as a QB for many years himself and has studied offenses that weren't even invented when Sonny played. This is in no way saying Zorn was a better QB and no disrespect to Sonny, he was great and my fathers favorite QB, but he should probably leave the coaching to the coaches instead of undermining them. |
Re: Did D. Hall Just Blast Zorn and the Inept Offense?
I think it's pretty obvious what the players are thinking. Meanwhile Zorn keeps defending his play calling and placing blame on the execution. I hate to say it but unless the offense starts putting up points really soon it won't be long until there's a serious divide in the locker room, and when that happens the season is over.
Blaming execution is coach-speak for "the plays I'm calling should work, but players are screwing up". At some point, Zorn has to take some responsibility himself. Zorn is the anti-Gibbs in this respect. Joe took more bullets publicly for his players than they probably deserved, but that may explain why his teams never quit, and rallied to make the playoffs in '05 and '07. Zorn should take a page from Joe Gibbs on accepting more of the blame publicly.
