I wouldn't write off either one of these guys yet. Tryon might be a decent NB and it's too early to tell anything on Barnes just yet.
I agree it is way to early to write them off, especially for Barnes. However it is fair to say that they both have been disappointments up to now. We really need these two guys to have break out years next season. That would be huge. |

Re: Interesting Comments from Carlos Rogers
^^ i think your comment about corners getting burnt sometimes is what carlos was referring to when he said they kept going man and not changing. you stick a corner out there to play man every single snap and he is going to get burnt. moreso than if you switch it up somewhat.
can a corner be considered "burnt" on a play if he is in zone? i'm guessing so but it probably is not so clear cut as maning up and the reciever catching the ball on you.
well I don't know if it went to cb's as well but remember the report about laron going from watching the qb and then being told to watch the route? that's probably why he gets killed on the double moves but for carlos it's probably more just not having a good eye for the ball, even when he's tight on a guy lately he doesn't have great anticipation for the ball or doesn't make a good play on it |
Carlos is a good starting CB in this league, and the best one on our team. The drops don't bother me. Sure, I wish he caught them. But at least he's in position for a pick rather than getting constantly burned. I think Blache caused more problems than he solved with his stubborn "My way or the highway" approach. It's necessary for a coach, in today's NFL, to be dynamic and work to the strengths of their players. Not try to slam a square player into a round hole.
Carlos will get beat sometimes, but find me a CB that doesn't. There won't be better corners on the street. Keep him for a while and spend the money on other positions where we don't have both talent and youth.
Exactly my thoughts.. |

That's like saying that incompletions for a QB or negative yardage runs for a RB or a DT that doesn't tackle people who run to his left 'don't bother me'. That's a HUGE part of his job!! Getting turnovers is a major factor in wins and losses. Just being in position isn't good enough, if you are there you have to make the play. |

The point is there aren't much of opportunities for us to replace Rogers if we decide to let him go.. Rogers proved he can shut down #1 receivers (most of times - the only time I remember he couldn't was the Broncos game against Marshall).. If there's opportunity of having a corner that can cover excellent and makes play that is presented to us then go for it.. But the only opportunity is Dunta Robinson, for some reason, I just don't see us going after him.. The main point of cornerback is not to let receivers catch balls and score touchdowns.. |

I wouldn't say they're disappointments. I mean Tryon was drafted in what the 5th round? I don't think there has ever been an expectation of him being anymore than a nickelback. As for Barnes, this is a critical year for him I would agree. |
Re: Interesting Comments from Carlos Rogers
Calling Barnes a disappointment is a bit premature. I am not even sure this year is "critical". Sure, he should show progress, but come on - he was an f'ing rookie last year. Can we take some time to develop players before we toss them to the curb?

Re: Interesting Comments from Carlos Rogers
Yeah I didn't mean critical as in he better make a pro bowl or hit the streets. Just that I seem him playing a very important role this year

The main point of cornerback is not to let receivers catch balls and score touchdowns..
We will agree to disagree on Rogers and I am admittedly biased because I don't really care for him but he's done nothing that has deemed himself, in my eyes, as irreplaceable with pretty much any other mid level starting CB. As I stated earlier, of the 64 starting CB in the league I don't think he's in the top 30 or 40. |
Re: Interesting Comments from Carlos Rogers
I don't really care for him as a person and there are more complete CBs in the league, but unless we can do better then we should keep him in the short term.
Given that our draft picks need to address the offensive line direly, I say stick with Rogers and try to upgrade him sometime down the line when we have the luxury to do so. |
Re: Interesting Comments from Carlos Rogers
It's annoying that Carlos has never taken responsibility for any failure ever in his entire career, has always found someone to defect the blame to...nevertheless, he's not enough of a headache to warrant release, and even appears somewhat willing to buy into the new system. Who knows, this could be a breakout year for him.

4th I think I love how we have "busts" that were drafted late |

if he's starting 64 and not in the top 40 then I'd love to hear your analysis on the ones in the bottom 24 not that you could name them |

what do you want? these are high level athletes that want to get paid and want to play who in the hell in their right mind is going to call themselves mediocre or replaceable? |
