Well that team has been horrible mismanaged just like our team. They also picked up Brady Quinn in the first round and look how that worked out?
True, but the point is they had faith that the 2nd or 3rd pick (can't remember when he was taken) would help their team. If anything they got worse.

Drafting Roger Saffold in the second round or drafting Russell Okung in the first in my eyes would have the same impact come next year. Let's get Clausen or Berry and get a star player for years to come that will get credit for playing well and make them play better.
Dont' get me wrong I have nothing but respect for the offensive line, but it's a sad reality that they get no credit from the media and fans until the offseason.

Dude your talking my language. If we could get a young, giant vet tackle and the best player available it would be ideal. I would note that while we are saying gaither only gave up one sack last season, he was OWNED by a then healthy Dwight Freeney in the playoffs.

This. I say pass. My Spidey sense is tingling.

Drafting BOTH of them would be the best for our team.

Joe Thomas played very well and is a very good tackle. The problem, as I said, is that the Browns as an organization were terribly mismanaged, and as our team has shown, good players can't always save a mismanaged organization.

It's weird to see a Redskins fan compare the Browns to the Redskins.. But I guess that's the truth eh? Anyways the point is mismanaged or not he's an amazing tackle who cannot win for his team. Not to mention both starters for that team last year were released/traded showing that he really had absolutely no impact on his quarterback?
I understand those two quarterbacks were downright horrible, but it still has to have a bit of an impact considering these were two highly regarded draft choices coming from college.

This is another smart option. With one problem, we have to trust Jason Campbell who again doesn't get respect until the offseason.
I'm not trying to cause any arguement, but just saying when I think back to games from this past season and further back, I remember a quarterback who didn't fit anything the offense tried to do and made horrible decisions and when there was a good open receiver he would throw it short, because of bad instincts.
Let's hope Mike can work his magic on him, because I wouldn't be surprised also if this option plays out.
listening to ravens radio, he has problems showing up and working hard. the ravens really like him, i think i heard he was rated the no 6 tackle last year, gave up one sack last year with a bad arm.

ravens sources said while they really like gaither but they think he has hit his wall of potential and what you see now is what you will get in the future. they think oher has unlimited upside.

another reason the ravens want to move him is b/c he will be an UFA next year and the ravens dont want to have to pay him starting top tier LT money next year, then have to give out another big top tier LT contract to oher a year or two later. basically they dont want 2 big money contracts for the same LT position. of the two, they would prefer oher long term.

the ravens/ozzie seem to not like putting alot of money is one position. last year bart scott walked b/c they paid t-sizzle and ray lewis.

but i dont think he will fit in the ZBS for us. hes the tallest guy in the nfl, has work ethic/concertration issues.

i would wait to see whose available at our 2nd round pick before talking a great but ill-fiting LT just for the sake of getting a LT.
This alone tells me why not wait till next year & get him for no draft picks. We only have 5 picks & we need to make them all count.
Yeah, look at a guy like Joe Thomas. One of the elite LT's in the league yet their team isn't far behind us in draft picks. I know if I was a GM/HC I would take tackles only past round 2 and let the coaches do their job.
well, there's a reason that you're not a GM :)

I'm glad a lot of people around here are not GMs! (including me)

Has anyone else that Shanahan has been much more willing to take on power blocking types since he came to Washington? When he first came here I conformed to the 300 or under stereotype but it seems like this time around he's more comfortable going into the season with a bigger offensive line. Who knows, maybe all those rumblings about Denver O-Lineman being light to handle the mile high elevation weren't so far fetched.

Nope, def haven't seen our final line so I'm not saying he's willing on anything

hell maybe he'll run it for a bit.. people do usually go to their roots though

it's going to depend on what happens personnel wise until we get a picture

we can say that he'll develop it around our players and that's fine.. at the same time he may be developing the scheme around our players and seeing how they perform.. then he knows after actual GAME play what he needs to do

I think that he'll find out a lot in the pre-season activities, but he could mold it later on as well

he's not getting fired after one year no matter what

Or, put simply, best player available.

Re: Jared Gaither for our second round pick?

I think Jared is well worth are 2nd round pick , he's a starting tackle . Yes he might not fit are scheme that well ,but neither does Dockery (326) , Mike Williams ( 337) , or Hicks ( 335 ) who we signed this year. The guy can play football and would be are best olinemen ,so i dont care if he wasnt an honor roll student. And if they can get portis and hanyesworth to practice they can get him to aswell. Hopefully we can also get Okug ,but if hes not there at 4 ,i dont want to reach for another OT. At that point trade down , and draft best avalable. But are line would be much improved if we had this as are starting lineup.
LT- Okug
LG- Dockery
C- Rabach
RG- Heyer
RT- Gaither
with Mike williams , Artis Hicks , Edwin Williams , and Chad Reinhart as are backups.
