The pittance they'd spend in new signage (marketing is always changing so I dont see that as an increased cost) would be more than offset with the sales of new hats, shirts, mugs, etc.
As a historical note, even when Washington's baseball team was called the Senators their officical name was Nationals and had been since the 1860s. Charley Brotman took to calling them the Senators because he couldnt come up with a good logo for Nationals and then everyone started calling them the Senators. Nationals wasnt some name they pulled out of thin air.
Oh awesome man, thanks. |

On the subject, I'd be fine with a change only if it were changed slightly to the 'Skins. Everyone would still know what it means, but it would be a good gesture and a compromise that probably should be done.
No. Then they win. Nor will we remain the Redskins with potatoes replacing the Indian. It HAS been suggested. |
Re: Name change

Snyder would have to renovate all of the team facilities, the stadium, new licenses would need to be obtained, web domains, uniforms and a lot of things we won't even think of. |

Re: Name change
Washington Whalers? It rhymes and we could have a kick ass Killer Whale with a harpoon through it's torso as our logo. Brilliant!
|
Re: Name change
^ Maybe we could get a killer whale like Snowflake for the Dolphines to be our mascott.

Re: Name change
But its still the same team, just a different name. It amazes me that anyone cares what they are called. I am a fan of the team no matter what silly nickname they use.
No it really wouldn't be the same. They would still be Washington DC's pro football team and i guess most people from the area would still cheer for them. For me the name is everything...I have been a Redskins fan since i was 5 years old and it started with the colors and the name of the team and grew from there. The team i grew up loving is the Redskins and if they are no longer called the Redskins it will feel like the team I love got killed. And i can't see myself keeping my season tickets and driving 4 hours each way to see any team other then the Redskins. |
Also thinking about what i just said. If the team were to move to LA (or another city) would you still be a Redskins fan? Its the same team just a different location.
changing the name is one thing, moving.. that I'd have to experience to know |
Re: Name change
Dan should do some nice little PR moves and install something at the entrances of FedEx with a little team/name history, donate to some native american museums, or something.

Not bad. They can view the team as a symbol of recognition and pride. I wonder if teams had started changing there names purposely before this liberal move started, (We don't want any reference to indians in American football) if they would now be complaining of discrimination. Just a thought... |
