Re: London Fletcher re-signs with Redskins
Serious question for those that think we overpaid. Someone please explain to me, what's "too much" for a player Fletcher's caliber on and off the field? And how do you quantify the value of said replacement at the same position and his impact on the team?
Is there a more dependable middle linebacker in the NFL than London Fletcher? Emphatically no. The guy shows up every day, every week and puts in work. Bottom line, our defense is much better with Fletcher than it is without him.
Secondly, we need to get over the "did we overpay" crap. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. This is the NFL, not Dairy Queen. I distinctly remember years ago, some of you on this board were bitching and moaning, and rightfully so, when the 'Skins would let guys like Antonio Pierce and Ryan Clark walk. Now the organization displays some actual loyalty, keep one of our own and ante up at the same time, some folks still ain't happy. I fi
I agree, we're paying for more than his on-field performance too. He is a key leader & mgmt. needs to show that it will reward players that go above & beyond the call of duty. Fletcher has always done that. This signing is about more than simple 'production' that shows up in stats. Shanny needs LF to continue to instill his values & work ethic on the team. It's nice to be able to say that a guy deserves his contract. London Fletcher definitely deserved to get this deal & hopefully will end his career in B&G. |

If you're tired of reading my posts, don't comment on them. Look, there's a number of posters on here I don't bother to respond to. There's only so many ways you can put "I disagree" in a post. If I'm not interested, I just skip over when I see the username. If calling something a "critical signing" comes off as overly negative to someone, then I don't have the time for them.
It wasnt that part of the post that I was saying was negative. I agree 100%. It was the latter, which I rather have plan A than plan B. Id like to think Riley can improve in coverage and I like to think Fletcher is not hobbled and still can produce. U just stated the worse case possible of Riley play and Fletch not being able to produce, which again are possible. I dont know so much if they are probable. Lets hope not, right? |

Re: London Fletcher re-signs with Redskins
Hasn't he lead the league in tackles the past 3 years?

Re: London Fletcher re-signs with Redskins
I don't care what we paid. The guy has been criminally under-appreciated in his career so I am glad the FO stepped up and gave him a thank you deal. He deserved it. And he's still good enough that it's not ridiculous. Happy we've got him back and happy for him.

Re: London Fletcher re-signs with Redskins
Glad Fletch is back. He's the anchor of our defense. But the front office MUST get someone behind him ASAP. As for the money, w/out quesation he deserved the raise. But at this point of his career he should be on one year contracts. The 14 million's probably spread out over two years?? Not sure giving him that amount is smart but hopefully he'll play two more years at a high level.

He's worth the money. However at his age it's risky business giving him 14 million. |

I think everyone here knows how important Fletch is to our team. Hopefully he can play two more years. |

"Too much" indicates that the money could be spent elsewhere on a younger more productive player. LF is a good roll model and player, however the league is the NFL (not for long) and at some point in the near future the skins are going to have to go in another direction. LF is not going to last forever, the team and it's followers will have to accept a new leader and go forward. Players get old, a team cannot set itself back by rewarding past performance, new leaders have to emerge. Please realize that the skins haven't been successful with him, how much difference has he made on the field in wins and losses. |

Philosophically your example would apply to every other player on the team........ |

Well first off Pierce took a minimally better deal to go to a division rival. It could be argued that a successful UDFA might feel like he owed the team that gave him a chance a slight discount. And Clark is a decent player that fits their scheme perfectly. He isnt some huge loss. |
Re: London Fletcher re-signs with Redskins
If there is one player on this roster that deserves to be "overpaid" it's Fletcher. The team has gotten younger over the last couple of years and needs solid veteran leadership from a player who still plays at a high level and is a model citizen off the field. I'd like to have a roster full of players like him.

Re: London Fletcher re-signs with Redskins
Of all the.....trash this team has mistakenly overpaid for over the years, I could totally endorse over paying London Fletcher a mil or two....IF we overpaid. To date he has given no indication of same. So far we paid for a Pro-bowl LB.........
