Same, It's a stop gap I rather Winfield but this has to be the writing on the wall he is not coming.
At least Hall has age on his side vs Winfield. You never know when a guy is going to drop off a cliff and Winfield is definitely playing on borrowed time. Still think he's the better player but I guess it's time to move on. |
I thought it was an April Fools joke last night but I have the whatever thing, I just find it funny that some people say that Hall is more important than Rak is. As far as that 4 int game every pass outside of the TD return (which was late and off Cutler's back foot) were thrown right to Hall.
But if that was Patrick Peterson with 4 ints he would be an all pro.. hall is what he is a solid corner that is our best option ATM. |
Re: D.Hall is back!
So basically according to your standards, only players that create turnovers and make extreme game changing plays like defensive touchdowns are worth anything on a defense?
So Hall is better than... J.J. Watt Geno Atkins NaVorro Bowman Justin Smith Cameron Wake or even Chris Long? If defensive players were rated only by interceptions, touchdowns, and huge plays I guess these players would not be very valuable then... Orakpo isn't the greatest defender/outside linebacker in the NFL, but I have seen what happens when he is out of the lineup. I would take Orakpo over Hall any day of the week.
Jesus, man. Did I say that? I'm not even suggesting that. That said, it's a joke that you've mentioned Rak in the same breath as J.J. Watt and Justin Smith...or Cameron Wake. I think Orakpo is a very good defensive player with superstar potential. But he hasn't reached stud status in my opinion. |

Nope, I would say he had a good game but if all four passes were thrown directly to him like he was the WR running the route I would say it was a bit flukey. |

Totally agree. I think the resurgence of the D line and LB corp will help the secondary. After the lost of Carriker and Rak it took awhile for us to adjust but by the end of the season our D was clicking. With those two coming back we can only be stronger. We had a good team last year everyone is back sans LA. That is a GOOD thing. Ever have a new guy in the office? Takes awhile to get them up to speed; our group has been together now for awhile should be clicking on all cylinders next year. |
if winfield wants a superbowl now, denver's the place. maybe we were seeing the writing on the wall, or we didn't want to wait and Dhall lowered his price.
either way, if we got him on a 1 year deal for 3.5M or less, it's good. we'll need to find a starter in the draft or FA next year... but all things considered we've done alright this offseason.
Winfield is still considering staying in Minnesota and we've been going hard after him. If he wanted to sign here, he would have by now. We cannot wait any longer to get that CB spot filled. It needed to be done before the draft unless we're willing sand able to get a sure starter in the 2nd round. Even if we still sign Winfield or score in the draft at CB, Hall is still a good option at FS or nickel...perhaps better suited at one of those than at starting CB at this point in his career. Good move if we were able to get him at a reduced price. I was hoping for a bigger upgrade but we probably can't afford it. The one thing we CAN'T afford is going into this season with any of the secondary spots being weaker than last season. We'll never make the next step into Super Bowl contender until we get this secondary fixed. At least we've improved our reserve CB situation with E.J. Biggers, who should be better than anyone we had last season coming off the bench. Hopefully Minnifield can make it onto the field too. |

Re: D.Hall is back!
Hall is worth something... and I've softened my stance on him a little. But he isn't worth what we were going to have to pay him by any fantastical stretch of the imagination. Now I assume he's somewhat of a bargain for us.

I think the answer he was looking for was our pass rush was non-existent at times. |

It affected Kerrigan's effectiveness for sure. Usually, Orakpo and Kerrigan both warrant double-teams (or holds) so one of them usually has a path to the backfield because it's impossible to double two guys at once. When Orakpo was missing, Kerrigan was neutralized most of the time by the opponents. We'll see the dominant rookie year version of Kerrigan back if Orakpo is on the field. Re: D.Hall is back!
Never thought I'd say this but glad to have D. Hall back. Another good move by the front office. We're having a great off season considering the circumstances.
