im with thatguy. dont get all of the love for paul

Re: Predict the 2013 53 Man Opening Day Roster
People who matter love Paul, and that's ultimately all that matters. He's definitely shown improvement this summer. And his special teams experience and play is arguably the best on the team, with Alexander gone.

Re: Predict the 2013 53 Man Opening Day Roster
I DO get the love for Paul. He's our 3rd string TE. THIRD. There aren't a lot of 3rd string TEs (or any 3rd stringers anywhere) pushing to make the pro-bowl. At that spot you're looking for a guy who fits the scheme and gives you a little something. He clearly fits what we like to do, plays mad STs, and knows the offense. I'm not sure what the "better" option is.

Re: Predict the 2013 53 Man Opening Day Roster
pushing for the pro bowl? technically every player in the nfl is pushing for the pro bowl.
|
Re: Predict the 2013 53 Man Opening Day Roster
And technically the vast majority don't make it. Especially those whose position starts with "3rd string"

yeah, and how many has he been to? i mean seriously, what's your point? that he's a 3rd stringer that hasn't been to a pro-bowl, and that's supposed to be impressive in some way? |
Re: Predict the 2013 53 Man Opening Day Roster
When we project the roster, I think that we sometimes get hung up on the position list which causes us to pigeon-hole the more versatile players. Specifically, I'm referring to Jordan Reed and the debate about how many TE's and WR's the Skins will keep.
I think the answer to this quandry is Jordan Reed. IMO, he is a true TE/WR hybrid. He reminds me of one of my favorite NFL players, Anquan Boldin. The Skins should be able to split him wide where he can overpower CB's the way Anquan does or keep him in tight where he can work against safeties. In essence, by having Jordan on the roster, I think the Skins will have both a 4th TE and a 6th WR in the same person. Isn't that one of the reasons that teams seek out versatile players? Perhaps we'll learn more about how the Skins plan to use Reed and what he capable of doing in the next exhibition game. |

LoAx was never the greatest positional player, yet very few wanted to lose him. He had value even as a non starter. Also in Pauls case, his main issue is catching the ball. And by most accounts, he is doing a much better job in TC doing that. If he can catch the ball, he can cause match up problems for defenses. Bigger than most safeties and faster than most LB's. |
Re: Predict the 2013 53 Man Opening Day Roster
but davis is a better version of that at TE/catching. i don't think paul is really much of a threat outside of blocking, at least not from anything he's shown so far.
and getting a pro bowl is a lot different than having a few of your team's fans thinking you might be able to get one. it just feels like more pre-season overhype. Zo showed a lot more versatility and production. he earned his contract. maybe paul will too, but so far, he's only shown decent blocking ability and some special teams work. Zo did that and played some OG, DL and LB pretty decently... and Zo's teams stuff made some highlight reels too. |
Re: Predict the 2013 53 Man Opening Day Roster
I probably have the same as everyone but...
QB- RG, KC HB- ALf, Helu FB- DY WR- pg, jm, lh, sm TE- fd, JR, NP LT- TW, TC LG- KL C- WM RG- CC RT- Tyler, Pashos De- SB, JJ, Baker, KG DT- bf, Nield OLB- Rak, ry, Jax, Jenkins MLB- LF, PR, Barnett, kehl CB- DH, JW, Bigg,Craw, Minn, Amer FS- Rambo, Pugh SS-bw, RD, gomes Kai, sav, Sundberg My questions remain: Can Thompson or Jamison unseat Royster and what long term plans do we have for them?? 5th WR between Henderson and Stallworth Paulsen stays if...an OL can play 2 positions. Has LeRibeus ate himself out of a job over Hurt or Gettis? Is Gettis more valued over LeRib's G/C ability? Is Matthews able to play G/C and bump one of them out? Does the team value NT Brace over keeping OLB Tapp or does that last roster spot go to a RB, TE, IOL??? I like this roster but tough decisions. PS- Lewis, Dawson, Briscoe?, Nixon, muckelroy. |

We'll see Thompson and Jamison in the second preseason game. Then we'll know a little bit more about them. I wouldn't be surprised to see Thompson get stashed on IR before the final cuts. 5th WR between Henderson and Stallworth Aldrick Robinson should be the 5th WR. I doubt that either Henderson or Stallworth will make the team. Paulsen stays if...an OL can play 2 positions. Paulsen is a lock. He is our blocking TE. He is much bigger than the other TE's. Has LeRibeus ate himself out of a job over Hurt or Gettis? I wonder the same thing about LeRibeus. He had better find some motivation or he might not last in the NFL. Is Gettis more valued over LeRib's G/C ability? I doubt that because versatility is a prized commodity for a reserve OL. Is Matthews able to play G/C and bump one of them out? So far he's only played C. I guess we'll both be watching to see if he plays any at G in the preseason. If he does, that could be bad news for some other player. Does the team value NT Brace over keeping OLB Tapp or does that last roster spot go to a RB, TE, IOL??? In the first preseason game, Tapp was used inside on passing downs. He played inside next to Kerrigan with Orakpo and Brandon Jenkins on the outside. That looked formidable to me. I think they like Tapp. Brace is behind Cofield, Baker, and Neild. I doubt that he makes the team. I like this roster but tough decisions. PS- Lewis, Dawson, Briscoe?, Nixon, muckelroy. Long shot; Needs to get a chance and show special ability as a PR/KR; Gone; Keeper but may end up on Practice Squad; Maybe.
I don't mean to seem like a know-it-all. The above are just my opinions expressed in shorthand. I also like the way the roster is shaping up. The tough decisions just mean that the Skins are adding more good players to compete with the incumbents. That's the way to build a winner. Hail! |
Re: Predict the 2013 53 Man Opening Day Roster
^^ yeah man. Good input. Totally forgot about Robinson. Having tough roster decisions is a good problem to have. Still a lot of work to be done definitely looking forward to next offseason to plug all remaining holes.
Preseason came so fast but the 1st game didn't satisfy me. |
Re: Predict the 2013 53 Man Opening Day Roster
So much for WR Henderson making the 53 man roster . We have enough vets at the WR position so I see the WR corp as the following : 1. Garçon 2. Morgan 3.Moss 4.Hankerson
5.Robinson PS Lewis,Dawson. LB's Rak Fletcher Kerrigan Riley Tapp Barnett Bryan Keil Jackson (4game susp)Robinson (IR)Brandon Jenkins ( can stand up or hand in the dirt) MuckleRoy I think PS if not eligible he will be cut. |
Re: Predict the 2013 53 Man Opening Day Roster
Now that we're in the middle of the preseason and have got good looks at the players, I figured I would predict how I think the 53-man roster will look.
Offense Quarterback: Robert Griffin III, Kirk Cousins, Rex Grossman Halfback: Alfred Morris, Roy Helu Jr., Chris Thompson Fullback: Darrell Young Tight-end: Fred Davis, Logan Paulsen, Jordan Reed (I don't think we'll carry 4 TE's; battle's between Paulsen and Paul) Wide Receiver: Pierre Garcon, Josh Morgan, Santana Moss, Leonard Hankerson, Skye Dawson, Aldrick Robinson Tackle: Trent Williams, Tom Compton, Tony Pashos, Tyler Polumbus Guard: Kory Lichtensteiger, Chris Chester, Maurice Hurt Center: Will Montgomery, Kevin Matthews Defense Defensive end: Darryl Tapp, Adam Carriker, Jarvis Jenkins, Kedric Golston, Stephen Bowen Nose tackle: Barry Cofield, Chris Baker (Is the minimum 3?) Inside linebacker: London Fletcher, Perry Riley, Jeremy Kimbrough, Marvin Burdette Outside linebacker: Brian Orakpo, Ryan Kerrigan, Brandon Jenkins, Rob Jackson Cornerback: DeAngelo Hall, David Amerson, Richard Crawford, Chase Minnifield, E.J. Biggers Safety: Brandon Meriweather, Baccari Rambo, Jose Gumbs, Reed Doughty, Jordan Pugh (Maybe Tanard Jackson?) Special teams Kicker: Kai Forbath Punter: Sav Rocca Long snapper: Nick Sundberg |
