So Alfred's home run swing into the stands, is OK right?

To me its two things: First, is it taunting? Second, does it delay the game? If the answer to both questions is NO, then not a penalty. I mean a 3 second home run swing into the stands does not do either of those things, nor does the "Tebow" prayer on one knee.

Players are only getting flagged if the celebration is directed at an opponent.

Just remember that goodell is trying to change the game for the future of football as well. It's not necessarily that he doesn't want just adults celebrating, it's that he doesn't want young kids watching football and idolizing these guys who are celebrating (or celebrating over the top) after a big play and having young kids in little league doing these taunts or celebrations. You want to teach kids while their young and not when they're older, because they'll still be in the habit of doing it. This is all being down for the future of football more so than the present of football.

The NFL is cutting down league celebrations to save the image of the game. If people get mad about football players celebrating, or if it slows down the game, people won't watch football, and then less money. I don't think the NFL cares about the young kinds growing up and if they celebrate, the NFL cares most about making money, and a big part of that is keeping a clean image and an image that you "care". Similar to "safety of the game", how the salary cap "promotes" competition, and anything else they say is so vital to the NFL. All about the money.

The only sports I can think of where they celebrate a score is soccer and football. In soccer its understandable because they play the game for like 3 hours before anyone scores. When they finally score they have to wake up the fans so they celebrate. In football I'm not sure why they all have to celebrate. You don't see it in bassball, tennis, golf, basketball, etc..

Well you must not watch much bassball firstdown cause I saw a guy knock an 8lb. Largemouth over the fence once and his teammates went nuts.

Never understood the knock on celebrating. Its one thing if a guy delays the game because he does a dance after a first down when his team is losing by thirty, but touchdowns, big sack, fumble recoveries - when the game is decided or in the balance- let em effin dance! I know ill be dancing in my living room if its the skins.

Dancing was included on the list of things you can't do? I know Victor Cruz scored in the 1st preseason game and did a mini salsa. I am not sure if he got a penalty or not however.
