Re: When are we gonna play?
I sent an email to the Redskins early this morning, after I posted. If I don't get a reply in a couple days, I'll start calling them. I pretty much told them the same thing TAFKAS did, except I mentioned possible sponsorship by whomever is sponsoring Fan Day, ostensibly Home Depot (that's who did it last year). I figure between the Redskins and a sponsor, we should be able to drum up pretty good publicity for the game, as well as prizes/trophies, and any other expenses that would go into.
I also mentioned that everyone would sign an injury/liability waiver when they register. I think the registration fee for charity purposes is a brilliant idea, and something that could really convince the Redskins to go forward with this. As far as the field goes, they rarely ever use the turf field at Redskins Park, and they wouldn't have to worry about us tearing up their grass practice fields. The only thing you'd have to worry about with the astroturf is the turf burns/strawberries whenever you fall or dive for a ball. There's always a risk for injury, though, no matter what kind of field you play on, and personally, I think it would be safer to play on the astroturf than it would be on the grass practice fields or the bumpy, grass parking lot (which is a broken ankle waiting to happen). I was also thinking about playing the game(s) during the intermission between morning and afternoon practices. I forgot that they don't have lights at Redskins Park, though. I had been thinking that if we decided to go the tournament route, we could play the championship game in the evening, after the afternoon practice. I'm hoping Gibbs will push to have lights installed for training camp. It's gotta be a real headache to have to covertly move the team to a secret high school field every time they want to practice at night. I think if we can get plenty of support for this event (and I really think there will be a lot of interest from all the other fan-sites), the Redskins might buy into it, especially since the proceeds from registration would go to charity. By the way, my hands aren't great, so wide receiver/tight end isn't the best spot for me. I'm love playing cornerback/safety, though. I can play linebacker, too. I guess if we get enough interest, we could have an offensive and defensive squad. Had anyone considered the possibility of doing this for the Draft Day Party at FedEx, too? It's a little short notice to do it this year, but maybe if we're successful with this training camp thing, we could see about doing the same thing for future draft parties. Last year, the field was all torn up anyway, and they let the fans run around playing catch on the field, so I don't see why they'd object to having an organized flag football game after the first round is done. I haven't contacted anyone from the other sites, but I'd assume there'd be a lot of interest once we do. |

I'm feeling very optimistic about what you've said. I also like the idea of playing on the turf. Pretty much everyone here said they'd play tackle football, so I don't think they'd care if they had a few bruises from flag football on turf. I think that they need to open it up to a limited number of websites/groups however, because if they open it up to the general public, there is no telling how many people will want to enter and it may be a bigger headache for them. I would love the idea too, of a player/coach officiating the game. |
Re: When are we gonna play?
I'm sending emails to hailredskins and extremeskins today, are there any other sites I should contact? I feel like I'm forgetting someone.

Re: When are we gonna play?
If we can get this together we'll get some jerseys made up. Anyone have any suggestions as to where we can get some custom made??

Re: When are we gonna play?
how about thehogs.net?
Crisp, I tried sending you a PM but you need to clear your inbox. Wanted to know if you could email me a one page (or less) proposal that I could send off to the names I mentioned in my previous PM to you...I know I'm being cryptic but you know what I'm talking about |
Re: When are we gonna play?
I used to work with a place that made jerseys/t-shirts/everything. Just let me know...

Re: When are we gonna play?
I'm amazed how mobilized everything got in the course of a day. I'm pumped!

Re: When are we gonna play?
Also, I'm about to head home from work for the day so I won't be checking posts until about 7-8ish, so if you want to know the name of the place, it is Sayre Enterprises and they are in Buena Vista, Virginia.

Re: When are we gonna play?
5'9", 150, sub 4.0 40 (but I have to be really motivated, like Rachel Hunter or Halle Berry as bait) Flag, post, across the middle WR, just don't ask me to remember audibles or block. I play CB like Smoot but get injured more often, haven't played for almost 20 years and was crap then. Yay!
I'm willing to fly out for a game and training camp. |
Re: When are we gonna play?
Hey ... been away for the weekend and missed most of the earlier posts. I am definitely up for the game. 6'2" 240. Problem is I am slow as molasses. Can catch okay... but don't get a lot of separation : )
Generally, I play line and am perfectly willing to do so for the team. Depends on how the rules work - but most flag teams I have played on have 3 lineman and 3-5 receivers. |
Re: When are we gonna play?
As long as we can get some big blocking pads then I think we can have a full 11-on-11 game.
