Ah yes I remember that.. I didn't think of anything about that since we don't know exactly the purpose behind that message but now with this news, I suppose it means he wasn't involved in the trade process like you explained or at least it definitely wasn't anything good.

It’s pretty simple, all the talent evaluators put together a list and Smith was at the top of all of them. Allen is the guy that actually makes the call and pulls the trigger on the deal. The WP article was sloppy in making it seem like anyone was left in the dark, that’s just not the case.

I always wonder how similar a lot of our "issues" are to many of the other teams around the league, but we're just ragged on more because we're the Skins.

But then on the flip side, we've done a lot of losing the last 25 years so it's probably warranted.

There is a whole team of behind the scenes people evaluating players but BA is the only one anyone knows about.

I don't have a problem with Allen being on the hot seat for the team's record, he's the final decision guy and now that all the issues have been dealt with, I think it is reasonable for Snyder to expect better results out of Allen and Gruden.

That being said, people need to stop acting like we are the Jets or the Browns. We have room for improvement, but things are okay and could potentially improve IMO.

People also need to get over Cousins, it was not going to work out, and it's not JUST the teams' fault. We definitely would have been SOL if we had given him $84 million guaranteed.

I also don't mind the way the team functions now, in case people have forgotten we no longer:

- Have our owner meddle with the team and make stupid decisions.
- Sign over the hill players for a ton of money based on past exploits (Bruce Smith, Jason Taylor, Deion, etc., etc.).
- Make stupid knee-jerk trade decisions (remember the TJ Duckett trade?)
- Continue to carry a ton of dead money for previous bad contracts.
- Always having cap room issues because of said bad contracts.
- Having nobodies like Danny Wuerfell or Shane Matthews as our QBs.

Now, I'm not saying that the FO or Allen's tenure has been perfect. They've made mistakes and could use improvement like any other team. But, people need to act like it is the end of the world. And if they the team drops a turd this season, then yes, some people will need to get fired (I'd be fine with Eric Schaeffer as the GM).

Finally, I don't believe anything that Chris Russell or Jason Reid say about the Redskins. They are as believable as Mike Florio or Jason LaCanfora and their TMZ-like reports.

I stopped following him when the team acquired DeSean Jackson and he threw a hissy fit about it. Before the team acquired him, he said he would quit if the Redskins got Jackson (he didn't unfortunately).

There are parts of the media that simply hate Snyder and/or the Skins, and make their living finding dirt to muddy the waters.

The nut of the story, if the Skins don't win then Allen should be moved is true of every GM and Front office in the league. The drama this report brings is a clickbait reporter knowing that there is a strong anti BA base, and reports of his demise will get lots of publicity.

I don’t get that one. Williams is NOT a GM. Fans assumed he had more authority than he did, but Doug’s just a personnel guy. bruce has always been the guy.

I just don't see how Allen ever gets canned here barring absolute total collapse / failure - like going winless or being brutal this season at 3 or 4 wins. Dan and Bruce seem too chummy, maybe even more so than him and Vinny. Speaking of Vinny, i do believe that Vinny actually had a better W-L record than Bruce, but someone can correct me if i'm wrong.

If Bruce and Jay don't start winning soon (perhaps this upcoming season) Snyder will fire both of them. Count on it.
