Re: Any update on Campbell?
Did you watch the Wild Card game? Either Giants games? Oakland?
Those must be the only games you watched, because the other 13 or so games tell us that Brunell is more than capable of leading this team and we have proof with how our season went this year. |
Re: Any update on Campbell?
Who says Ramsey was a practice player he might have been ruined as u people say under Spurrier but this was gonna be his 2nd year under Gibbs..... Brunell had the benefit of the "Gibbs System" whatever meager chance Ramsey had to perform he played well so maybe your judging him too harshy also???? You see The total bad side or Ramsey and Brunell is God!!!! I know if i take this season and last brunell has played poorly in the majority of the games OVERALL.... I more than sure Patrick can do as well.... But Brunell DID lead the NFL in fumbles lost!!! good job mark..make your mark no pun intended or was there?
Ramsey didn't exactly light things up last year when he came in off the bench. He played better than Brunell did - that ain't sayin' much at all! This year, you can't tell me he played well when he played. He played like crap through preseason and through the Chicago game. He played well in the Giants game and he admitted that he improved because he had the benefit of watching Brunell play the entire year. If he is an improved quarterback, you can thank Brunell, Musgrave, and Joe Gibbs for that. |
Re: Any update on Campbell?
i can't wait for pre-season because campbell is going to play, and really impress all of us. not only is he big, but he has a very accurate arm and is smart. i think he might even beat out brunell for the starting job.

as odd as it sounds, i have a weird feeling you are right. i thought gibbs was out of his mind trading away this year's pick to denver, but in hindsite it was smart. he found his leader of the future, and was able to groom him a year in advance. |

I still believe Brunell, if healthy, will be our starting quarterback next season, but I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't last all season. I can tell you this, it won't be because Brunell is not playing well, it will be because he gets an injury that pretty much ends his career. |

Unfortunately they didn't cut Brunell, we traded a 3rd rd pick for him. I thought it was foolish at the time, but after season season it was worth it. Hopefully we can find someone to give us a #3 for Ramsey. I get your basic point, however, I think you are perhaps a bit too attached to Ramsey though. Brunell played very well this season and I doubt Ramsey could have piloted this team to a similar record. His decision making is questionable and his play is inconsistent. Even in the Giants game he only made one throw and it really was not all that great...in fact is was borderline horrible. He was lucky Moss (and Will Allen) were on the other end of it. Ramsey's future is elsewhere, our future is Jason Campbell. |

Re: Any update on Campbell?
I will concede that they will not necessarily be a losing football team in that time, but what I'm trying to say is that even if they are, they need to stick by the kid. He has to learn by playing at some point and the only way to do that is to put him situations where he's not gonna get yanked for playing poorly.

Re: Any update on Campbell?
I'm sorry but anyone who can objectively look at Brunell's entire 2005 season and tell me he didn't play a significant role in those 10 wins is just flat out a Brunell hater.
3050 yards, 23 TDs, only 10 picks, 36 completions over 20 yards, 9 over 40 yards, 85.9 rating, 8 games with a QB rating of at least 90, 4 games with a QB rating over 100, and you're telling me the team won in spite of his efforts? Please. Let's put down the Ramsey weed and get back to reality. |
Re: Any update on Campbell?
If Rich Gannon could lead his team to the Super Bowl at age 37, I see no reason why Brunell can't do it at 36. Brunell's comeback from 2004 was outstanding, and he had an excellent year. One of the best of a very good, if not great, career. Like Matty and others have said, to not give him any credit for the success of this season is just pure hate.
It's true that Brunell has basically hit his peak, but with the team we have right now I think that's good enough to be a damn good team. Truthfully, part of me wants to see both Ramsey and Brunell gone. Just because all of this Ramsey vs. Brunell debate is just plain stupid. Ramsey (and Jacobs) have apparently never been given a chance to show what they can do. And Brunell was no more instrumental to the Redskins' success this year than BrudLee (no offense Brud). I'd almost rather just say good-bye to both and start fresh with Jason Campbell. |

Wasen't Gannon a league MVP? [not sure] But I do know this, he was a significant cog in the oakland offense, he was a big reason why they won, that can't be said about Brunell. I don't really feel a QB is incapable of winning the big one at 36, but he better be a very good QB to do so, which Brunell is not, and he is certainly not posting numbers like Gannon. If the choice is Brunell or Campbell I want Campbell, we are only spinning our tires with Brunell, I really believe the right choice here is Ramsey, perhaps we get Campbell some playing time along the way, then let Ramsey walk after the year is over and promote Campbell to starter. I have an idea rather than trade Ramsey, why don't we recoupe some pic's by trading Brunell? If Ramsey can bring back A #2 or 3, then it's only right that Brunell command a #2 at the very least, after all he's a big time QB coming off a magnificent year and guided us to the second rd. of the playoff's. We wouldn't get laughed at by the rest of the GM's or anything would we? It's funny but if you want to compare who is more valued by other teams than just put both of them on the market and see what kind of offers we get for either, I bet the offers come flooding in for Ramsey, and zip for Brunell. I don't want to hear about age either, if a QB is capable of leading a team to the SB even if he only has 1 year left he would defiently have a lot of value to the right team. As well if Ramsey is incapable of leading a team to the SB, then what value does he really have? Why give up anything or invest in a QB who just doesn't have it, Dolphins, Jets, are 2 definate possiblities for Ramsey. |

Re: Any update on Campbell?
Just my thoughts, but I do think that Ramsey did change for the better by watching a healthy Brunell play this year. What makes me think that is when Ramsey had to play in the second NYG game, due to Brunell going down. There was one play where Ramsey dumped the ball off to Betts just out of the backfield. He went through his progressions, and finally dumped off to Betts, the thing is not that he went through his progressions and checked down to Betts but how he threw the pass. The old Ramsey would have "bulleted" the ball to Betts, who was about 4 or 5 yards away, the Ramsey I saw on that play lofted the ball over a defenders head to Betts, Ramsey put the much so coveted "touch" on that pass... Again, just my thoughts...
Too bad that we couldnt see more of Ramsey to really tell if he had learned anything or not... |

I'm just slightly wary of brunell cause he gets injured a lot, he plays piss-poorly when he is hurt and he seems to lose his game down the stretch of the season. That and he's a scrambling QB that's getting older and even slower. |

True, I just thought it was interesting since Daly (the columnist) pointed out-with an exclamation point I believe-as if it were so horribly abysmal and unlike any other successful QB in this league. |
Re: Any update on Campbell?
a TD is a TD, who cares how you get it? unless you're going to breakout a complete drive play by play for every possession of the entire season, TD reception length is a pretty useless stat. Maybe someone should e-mail daly and ask how the hell he thinks its relevant to anything at all.

Re: Any update on Campbell?
You see the footage of Campbell on redskins.com? He looks incredible. But I did notice he telegraphed both of those passes. Even Brunell telegraphs to much. Maybe they haven't played the cone version of madden yet. Alot harder to connect on a fly anymore...

Re: Any update on Campbell?
ramsey was an interception machine. you gotta remember that.
Please define "interception machine". Ramsey has 34 TD's and 29 picks for his career. That's a better ratio than Jake Plummer, Joey Harrington, David Carr, Eli Manning, Kyle Boller, Rex Grossman, Kyle Orton, and plenty of other quarterbacks that have seem game time this season. And at least five of Ramsey's picks came in games that he wasn't even starting, where Spurrier just had him come in to throw a hail mary. I also think calling him "Rat Pansy" is a bit out of line. He took shots in Spurriers offense, like he was the opposing defense's personal punching bag, and kept getting up. |

And if anyone remembers the first Seattle game, Brunell threw a pick deep in Redskins territory, that would've cost Washington that game if Josh Brown doesn't hit the upright. |

Nobody ever argued that Patrick Ramsey didn't know, at least in theory, what to do in certain situations. However, what I have been saying all along is watching a veteran quarterback leading the team can only benefit the younger quarterbacks. They learn AND confirm by seeing it in live situations on the field. They are there on the sidelines listening to the terminology and the coaching aspect of things, and getting the benefit of seeing it executed on the field. That is why I have been saying all along that because of the decision to let Brunell play this year, it has benefited BOTH Patrick Ramsey and Jason Campbell. It will help to make either quarterback a smarter and better quarterback rather than to throw them on the field and tell them to figure it out. Some guys can thrive like that, others need to be brought up slowly. This is a good decision by Joe Gibbs and it's one that I support fully. I also believe because of this decision, we were able to have a 10 game winning season and make the playoffs. Not many people expected this out of the Redskins this year, and every player, INCLUDING Mark Brunell, deserves credit. IF Patrick Ramsey was the guy this year, and he lead us to the same type of year OR better, then I would have given Ramsey just as much credit. |
