I'm already preparing for the massive freakout once Collins is named the #2. He's definitely the new scapegoat flavor of the month.
Collins is going to be named #2 because he's Saunder's boy, but there's a reason he hasn't gotten any serious playing time in nine years. He doesn't have nearly the amount of natural ability that Campbell has. I wouldn't mind if Collins filled in, if Brunell was knocked out for a game, but if he were to go down for the season, it'd make much more sense to let Campbell take over.

I don't want him starting...but I would also add that Collins maybe have been playing against 4th stringers, but he also was throwing to 4th stringers behind a 4th string line.

Re: Do you really wanna see anymore todd collins?

Well lets be honest....what is todd collins? a career backup. If, and i hate to say this, brunnell goes down Jason Campbell has got to play period. Todd Colllins maybe fluent with this offense and saunders boy and all that but our best shot at winning without Brunnell has got to be with number 17 leading our offense. I still swear by that certain number 11 that used to be here. I would be a little less concerned if he was still here.

You mean the same #11 riding the pine in NY?

That's really something to hang your hat on.

Collins was actually our highest rated QB this preseason. Granted that's not saying much, but take it for what it's worth. He's the only one that threw a TD pass, and his completion % was 59.3.

And yet we have a 13 page thread bashing him silly.

Re: Do you really wanna see anymore todd collins?

I think we'll see Collins back up Brunell. So he'll come in during a game. But if it's a case where Brunell can't start a game then I see them working on JC during the week so he can start the game. I don't see Collins actually starting any games

your not going to even say that Todd Collins is better than patrick ramsey...are you out of you mind? we need a little straw poll here...Todd Collins in not an nfl caliber quarterback. PERIOD.

For this offense, yes I'd take Collins over Ramsey.

So are you trying to tell me that Ramsey is a NFL caliber QB?? Dude can't even beat out a limp-armed Pennington who's had serious shoulder surgery two years in a row.

I guess what it comes down to is the opinion of some very knowledgeable coaches. Ramsey was traded and Collins brought in, kinda lets you know what they think of them both.

But I guess you know an NFL caliber QB when you see one, and a Hall of Fame coach and a well respected offensive coordinator are the ones that don't understand.

Look how he was treated here by first of all spurrier and then named started last year only to have it taken from him. Did you really think he was going to unseat Pennington as starter..? regardless of the shoulder the jets have too much money tied up in Pennington for him not to be the starter. I think Ramsey proved he can play in this league...I think you need to goto nfl.com and look at the career stats. Look at qb rating. The stats dont lie.

Re: Do you really wanna see anymore todd collins?

Sorry if I'm not overwhelmed by a career 75.0 rating.

You're right, the stats don't lie. Career completion % of 55.7. 24 games started in 4 years. Yep, all adds up to a mediocre QB to me.

Ramsey is NOT anything special. Enough with the excuses. Spurrier ruined him, Gibbs screwed him, he wasn't going to beat out Pennington, etc.

If he was a true NFL caliber starting QB, he wouldn't be riding the pine YET AGAIN.

Allright. Its time for me to let this go i guess. It time for all of us redskin fans to unite and support our drive to the superbowl. Time for our braves to go on the warpath.

Oh please don't start that crap! How many excuses does one have to come up with before they finally see the light on ol #11. Don't get me wrong, he's probably a nice guy, but if that's all it takes to be an NFL caliber QB, I'd be better than Joe Montana....

Collins over Ramsey.

Sacks are drive killers, and nobody in the league waits for his "hug" more than Ramsey. It doesn't even show in the QB rating!

This NYT article says that when it comes to QBs, statistics lie like a politician:

http://www.nytimes.com/2006/08/27/sports/football/27score.html

Of course, the NYT lies about all kinds of stuff all the time.

While I am no Ramsey fan, I'd take PR over TC in a New York Minute.

It isn't the stats, it is what I see on the field.

Ramsey has at least been good enough to start in this league. I really think the TC signing is the biggest off season screw up this year.

That being said, if Gibbs and Saunders are convinced he gives the team the best chance not to lose, I have to acknowledge that they know what they are doing and have their reasons -- even if I don't see it.

SmootSmack 09-01-2006 02:19 PM

Re: Do you really wanna see anymore todd collins?

I worry that Archuleta will be the biggest screw up signing, perhaps in the whole league.

I think Williams is going to have to get very creative to mask Arch's coverage deficiencies

I dont expect TC to play, so we won't have to worry about his performance on the field, or lack thereof

ArtMonkDrillz 09-01-2006 02:26 PM

Re: Do you really wanna see anymore todd collins?

I agree with you TAFKAS. My buddies and I were commenting on him the entire game last night, we noticed that he could have probably prevented both TDs but didn't (I guess you could say that about a lot of guys though). Also, did you notice that he stayed in even after the starting D was off the field. The coaches must think he needs more work too.

That's worried me since day one. He's going to be the more expensive Matt Bowen. A guy who could ONLY blitz.

can anyone tell me what the problem the skins front office had with ryan clark? with clark and taylor together , i thought they were one of the better tandems in the entire league

SmootSmack 09-01-2006 02:50 PM

Re: Do you really wanna see anymore todd collins?

I think that play against the Chargers when he wiffed on LT pretty much ended Clark's career here. I believe they felt he was a steady perfomer, a solid backup but not a game changer. Maybe Arch is, but I haven't seen that from him since 2001 or thereabouts.

I liked Stoutmire.

See I like Prioleau. But I like him as a jack of all trades. You can plug him in on teams, CB, S, at any time.

AMD is in his "lab" working on cloning Sean Taylor, so it's all good

Tell him while he's at it to create an Eva Longoria and Jessica Alba for me: mayo-free would be preferable.

two points:

1. pennington is far better than collins, so that arguement is a complete joke.

2. collins is a career 70.4 rating QB, so technically, by your own arguement, ramsey is better. collins also has started 17 games in 11 years, which is far less than 24 in 4.

saying collins is better than ramsey isn't a very good arguement, especially if you want to rely on stats.

and pulling the coach knows best isn't really valid either. ramsey wanted out and when saunders was hired, it wasn't really up to him to keep ramsey. saunders wanted collins because he knew him well. He CLEARLY wasn't hired on talent, cause their were much better QBs on the market (griese, collins, etc etc etc). he also may have also wanted collins to screw herm edwards and brain drain the chiefs a bit (they had to scramble to get huard (sp?) resigned afterwards).

Your arguement also keeps stating that ramsey is a backup and not starter quality, but in a comparision with collins, that's completely moot as todd is most definately not someone ANYONE would want starting.

well don't worry, Collins is veeeery familiar and comfortable with the bench, he's just a Campbell groomer and last ditch insurance. let's not release him just yet.

I think you missed my point :P

I was just replying to all the "ramsey is worse than terrible" stuff with the stats highlights you decided to pull out. I never said your opinion on who you rather have was wrong, just that some of your points didn't really mesh as far as overall productivity (starts, rating, yards, etc etc).

My simple point was this, Ramsey is nothing special. Someone said to look at his stats, which I did and said I was not overwhelmed by a 75.0 career rating. He's mediocre, that's all I was trying to say.

All I'm sayin' is Collins: 70.4 rating; Ramsey 75.0; JAY FIEDLER 77.1!!!!

in the words of Matty, "Thank you and good night"

(never mind that the Bucs released him, and he has serious shoulder injuries)
