Re: Rooting for minor injury?
i dont want anyone to substain any injury. brunell is the starter here, in my opinion, until the redskins are out of the playoff chase. only then should campbell be put in the mix
|
Re: Rooting for minor injury?
I give you my vote of confidence.
|
Re: Rooting for minor injury?
I don't want any injury, but honestly, I don't want him to make enough plays next week to stay the starter. He just can't get it done.
|
Re: Bench Brunell
AND he might actually take a chance and throw the ball into some coverage!
|
Re: Rooting for minor injury?
I actually think we could lose to the Texans. I don't WANT to root for an injury, but given Gibbs refusal to make a QB change, I don't really feel like there is another option. If we can't go to the SB with the old man, then put Campbell in and at least build for next year.
|
Re: Time to bench Brunell?
even if campbell sucks, maybe he'll be good enough next year.
|
Re: Rooting for minor injury?
Honestly, if Campbell went in, I don't think we'd be building at all. I really think he could win some games for us.
|
Re: Time to bench Brunell?
I think madden said it last night, but I'm not sure if he was speculating or if saunders/gibbs said it: madden said that JC would not go from 3rd string to 2nd and then to 1st...he'd go from 3rd string to 1st.
if that is true, then there isn't really any reason to think collins would go in if/when MB is benched...but I have to ask: why have the 2nd and 3rd string identified if the 3rd stringer is ahead of the 2nd stringer? or, why not make JC 2nd string? |
Re: Rooting for minor injury?
I have TiVo, so I really break down the plays. Did anyone else notice that we had WRs open, but Brunnell either could not or would not make the throw?
|
Re: Time to bench Brunell?
Well, Many people said the same thing about Brunell last season. You don't have to throw 80 yards to win the SB in this league. Regarding winning seasons, he gives us our ONLY shot this year. If we change QB's now, we are done.
you seriously think you can win a superbowl with under 80 yards passing? i'd love some recent examples. and if you seriously think we've got a real shot with brunell this year to win it all, you're kidding yourself. |
Re: Time to bench Brunell?
agreed. even if he's our best shot, which is questionable now, at what point should a crappy shot traded for the future?

You're right. And the worse part is that the one thing Brunell is supposedly good for (not making mistakes) was shot to hell last night when he floated that pass to Cololey at the 3, which Roy Williams picked off. I guess that was one of Brunell's "wise decisions." |
Re: Time to bench Brunell?
The QB is a very small part of this problem. Folks - our O-line is not executing. Our D-line is not putting pressure on the opposing QB. And there is an unacceptable lack of discipline as evidenced by the number of penalties being thrown our way.
The QB is a lightening rod for criticism; however, right now he is not the underlying problem. In fact - without his field savy in getting rid of the ball without a lot of turnovers, the score would have been worse. Excuses don't count ... play better! Currently we are performing poorly.
One problem begets another. The offensive line woes are largely due to Brunell's inefficiencies. The line can only do so much when your offense is as predictable as ours. |
Re: Rooting for minor injury?
I'm just being honest too.
I wouldn't think of rooting for a injury to a Redskins player. By the way, can we get another Brunell thread? I don't think we have enough right now. Talk about yawn©. Yeah that's right, see that copyright? I own yawn© around here. So back off! ;) |

I don't have TiVo, but I could still see it a bunch of times, especially when they would show replays using the sky cam from right behind MB's head. |
Re: Rooting for minor injury?
people wouldn't root for injury if they knew gibbs would pull him before 10 weeks like this.

He did, remember the pick? |
Re: Rooting for minor injury?
Yeah basically the whole game our wrs were open and brunell could not give them the ball. I believe that he just can't see over the big o-line we have and that is why he always moves out of the pocket. At least Campbell is tall enough to see over the o-line. I believe we need to put Collins in the game I believe he will throw the ball downfield rather an interception or not but he will try.

Great, you have TiVo. You still can't see the entire play and what the WRs are doing or what coverages are going on. |

But I can see that someone is wide open crossing the middle of the field. Really Matt, this blind faith in Brunnell must stop if you are to maintain any credibility whatsoever. |
Re: Time to bench Brunell?
Give him a few more weeks.
Between the bad playcalling, no effective rushing game, no offensive line, and a defense that isn't getting the ball to the offense, it's been pretty tough all around. (But I would say that he turned INTO the sack a few times.) I felt that Dallas was able to tee off on him a lot so I checked the play-by-play to see what happened. I excluded the last 2 drives where they got a lot of free yards. On 1st and 10 8 pass plays 5/7 for 47 yards, 1 sack. Ended up getting a first down on 6 of 8 series. 8 rushes. first downs on 2 of 8 series. So it's clear it's better to pass on 1st down. In the second half, we had 5 first downs prior to the last 2 drives. Our breakdown on first down was 4 rushes, 1 pass. What's with that? As far as for when Dallas could tee off, I analyzed 2nd and 8+ and 3rd and 6+ (combined). Brunell's stats were 2/10 with 1 pick and 2 sacks. Pretty bad. How much was Brunell? I can't say. But I think an indicator is the screen passes. EVERY time they've run a screen pass some defender has been in the receiver's face. So I think Brunell gets some more time. I can't lay it all on him. Maybe he's also frustrated by the play calling, and that can really wear the QB down. From what I understand, he has less leeway to change things at the line of scrimmage than last year. |
Re: Bench Brunell
He did, remember the pick?
My dad is 48 years old and is getting ACL/MCL surgery next week but I still think he could have picked that ball off (staying in bounds may have been a problem though). He put so much air under it that it was like a punt. I guess that's why he's so afraid to try to throw it deep. |
But I can see that someone is wide open crossing the middle of the field. Really Matt, this blind faith in Brunnell must stop if you are to maintain any credibility whatsoever.
This has nothing to do with Brunell or my perceived blind faith. I've said he's not playing well, but I'll also continue to say the entire offense is not playing well. We're not running the ball well, we're not blocking well, generally speaking we're just not executing well across the board. The endless Brunell bashing doesn't hold much water to me. It's a very ignorant view to think that replacing the QB right now is going to solve anything. To clarify about my blind faith, my faith lies with Gibbs and co. Players are interchangeable, I could really care less who is playing QB. I prefer to look at the big picture. QB play is often reflective of the entire offensive unit. But I guess you already know that since you have TiVo. |

When he throws into coverage, he REALLY throws into coverage. |

Agreed. 80 passing yards in a game means the defense is probably on the field for 40 minutes, which would tire out even the best defense in the league. Being 0 for 12 on third down for the first 56 minutes of the game doesn't help either. One thing I noticed is Gibbs actually looked irritated when Brunell was skipping balls to open receivers, even when he wasn't pressured. Still, I bet Brunell plays next week. They'll probably eak by the Texans, and that'll be the excuse to start Brunell the following week. |

Actually, the reference was regarding Arm strength, rather than yardage in a game. It was meant to characterize that you don't need Elway arm strength to be successful in the NFL. Additionally, I made reference to winning (9-8) or losing (8-9) seasons. Finally, I don't think I am Kidding myself about anything. Putting in JC with our protection is insanity. It represents a total collapse of any kind of order, or philosophy with regard to the Redskins, and their program. In addition, it is a total admission that this season is lost. I am not willing, with 12% of our games played to throw in the towel |

In my opinion, that turnover simply deflated us, we practically threw in the towel at that point. We can all see that the Redskins have many small things that they need to work on but Brunell is the core of those problems bud, everything else is just orbiting him like the planets around the sun! |

Really? So Samuels getting beat around the corner is due to MB? Jansen flinching on false starts is due to MB? I'm not letting MB off the hook completely, but there were several occassions last night where it was an absolute jail break on the pass rush. |

Re: Time to bench Brunell?
No, those were absolutely their fault.
What I'm talking about is the poor line play overall. I think it's largely due to our predictable play calling and Brunell's inability to get the ball downfield. |
Re: Time to bench Brunell?
I have to agree with that too. I watched the Falcons game and watch them totally own the Buccaneers all day. This is the same, awesome Tampa Bay defense that we watch every year and they were totally outmanned. When are we going to dominate games like that?

Right. You question my credibility and then sit there like you're the innocent victim. Please. Sorry if you got your ass chapped about the TiVo comment, but hey I've got a DVR too and I can't see the WR routes and coverages. There are plenty of things going on that we can't see. I don't think it's as simple as saying I've got TiVo so I know what's wrong with the offense and it's all Brunell. |
Re: Time to bench Brunell?
Nobody looks comfortable in this offense. No one. If you don't accept the fact that it may take Mark a few games to grow within the offense, you might as well just throw away the season right now.
He's been missing his star RB these last two games. Yes, his play has been less than desirible, but no he isn't the big problem here. We have had no consistent running game to speak of. I would like to see him improve the third down offense, but right now the blame falls on 11 guys, not one. |

Re: Time to bench Brunell?
John Madden says Brunell is the problem.
Doc Walker says Brunell is the problem. I just do not understand why Gibbs has chosen Brunell to carry the flag. I was embarrassed for Brunell last night. He looked worse than he did in '04. |
