it'd be hard to go 8-2 with this schedule :/. it's like 2000 all over. hit the play-offs, get excited, go out and waste money on bad players while ditching draft picks for fear of them being icky. I mean, gibbs will probably go 4-0 in december (he always does), but the margin for error is so much lower than last year, and the schedule is harder.

chemistry matters, motivation matters, talent matters. I'm not sure we have any of the first two, or enough of the last one.


oh yeah, and the colts got a steal by turning a 2nd rounder into a top notch DT. that's what a good FO does. address their needs BEFORE they start creating problems costing them games. that's the same FO that drafted most of that colts team... hmm... drafting players... there's a thought.

Hate to say it, but the situation we have with the player-personnel decision making is similar to the Bengals before Marvin Lewis got there. As I understand it, there was [I]one[/I] person who worked as a scout for Cincinnati, in addition to ancient workout rooms -- it turned out to be the tell-tale signs of a dysfunctional franchise. Now make no mistake, Snyder and Cooke before him spared no expense to have top-notch training facilities and to furnish the team and its headquarters with whatever they wanted. That's not what I'm talking about.

The archaic situation during the days of gloom in Cincinnati is a mirror image of this team and its current structure for evaluating talent and player acquisition. That is to say, it consists of Dan Snyder's wishes, and the limits of his bank account.

And this is something I thought would surely change once Joe Gibbs restored order to this franchise. Instead, he bought into this notion hook, line, and sinker -- that whatever problem this team faces can be solved by the movement of Dan Snyder's pen to his checkbook. Instead of well-reasoned, astute observations and studies by a football professionals who know what they're doing, we get recklessness, and the throwing of free agent heymakers, hoping one of them will hit.

Until that structure changes, this team will never succeed. And as That Guy said, there's going to be more 2000-like seasons to come.

Sorry buddy, but I had to tell myself the same thing I told you. Look, many owner could care less if they win or lose. We have an owner that will do anything he can to bring us a winner.. Although he has not, I love him for trying. I am sure he will get it right someday. There are many teams in pro sports that dont care.

I know of one owner who gets accused of 'not caring' -- Bill Bidwell of the Cardinals. But who knows? Nobody can get inside the man's head. It could just be that he happens to be the owner of a franchise that's certifiably doomed. Everybody else? They either give everything they've got to get to the Super Bowl, or it's their jobs.

I know Snyder tries. And for a time, I admired him for that. But now, its starting to look like the way a drunk tries to sing at a karyoke bar. We know he's trying real hard, but after a while it gets annoying.

EVERYONE NEEDS TO HAVE A DRINK AND CHILL...

I know everyone here had big expectations for the season, but it's just not gonna happen. We're just not that good. It SUCKS.. deal with it. I for one gave the season a funeral after going 0-2 and 0-4 in the preseason. The writing has been on the wall since late August. It was just that the marketing engine was all fired up and nobody wanted to hear it. They duped me.. they duped all of us! Now that we are finally approaching mathematical elimination everyone is freaking out, and I totally understand that... its just I came to the grim conclusion some time ago.

Here's what I've seen happen:

The defense has been stripped of too much talent, and its beginning to show. Our secondary has been gutted through Free Agency and now injuries... the LB's look totally confused, can't play zone, don't set tempo, and for some reason forgot how to hit BAMAS in the mouth! The DT's that have never produced much pass rush, but could always stuff the run are now springing leaks... And then there's the DE's... well sometimes I wonder how they show up Mondays to grab their paycheck.

The offense is meak and won't get better until we have a QB under center that can execute Al Saunders offense. We need a guy that can convert 3rd downs and make plays when its not perfectly there. For all we know, Jason Campbell might not have the goods either. I wasn't exactly enamoured with his preaseason work. Sometimes I have a sneaking suspicion that he could be a bust too... Why hasn't he stepped up and taken the job from Mark yet? If he isn't blowing Brunell away in practice then we got problems.

Its a giant SH!T SANDWICH... anybody hungry?

Right now this team found success and then kinda blew it up with a get rich quick scheme to win a superbowl. only this time the money was wasted on young crappy players instead of old crappy players :/.

thats funny. he tries in the wrong ways. how soon we forget the 2000 season. we need a real general manager. as far as gibbs being a guy to evaluate talent...ive got two words for you desmond howard. gibbs is a great coach...but not a general manager. and i still hold firm in my belief that it was snyder and cerrato who wanted all of these free agents this past off season. went to the playoffs in 1999 and 2004 with teams that didnt have allstar rosters on paper and we add a bunch of over priced players to our team and look what happens. You do the math on how great of an owner dan snyder is. he sucks.

Snyder just writes the checks now. I find it hard to place much blame with him. He's giving the coaches what they want, hard to hate on that.

you honestly let yourself believe that? snyder has a heck of alot more input than what is really known. yes it was 6 years ago but funny we are in the same boat again. very poor decision making by the skins front office. which includes first snyder, cerrato and gibbs. we need a real gm. there are no if ands or buts about it.

Because the "high", that 6-0 run at the end last year was an abberation. Gibbs is 19-21 since he came back. He took over a team that was below average, and so far, has made them just barely average.

injuries, loss of underappreciated players defense, new unfamiliar players on defense, new, complicated offense to master, and frankly, i suspect, age. the difference between 35 and 36 (especially at QB) is not the same between 25 and 26..

I completely agree that he is probably one of the best salesman in the world. Being an aspiring business owner myself, I actually admire his marketing savvy. But as the owner of our beloved Washington Redskins, I despise him.

Everyone knows that it is time to rebuild. We had a promising defense last year, and anyone in their right mind should realize that it is easier to improve your strengths than your weaknesses. Our concern should've been maintaining and improving a solid defense. A solid defense provides for more possessions and more opportunities to improve a work in progress offense. Too bad we let our young talent leave (Arrington, Clark, Pierce), and brought in old stubborn free agents who have lost under poor defensive schemes for years (Carter, Rumph, Archuleta, and now vincent....all slow players) Last year was very exciting, and made me a happier person overall, however, it represented the death of us this year. I dunno if i can handle watching brunell for another game, imagine how effective our running game could be with any other QB.

Snyder will never hire a GM because he's afraid of being ripped off, that's why he will always stay in the mix of decision making. The bottom line, he dosen't trust anyone.

Yeah, I wish Snyder had some sort of football knowledge. Why are all of our free agent signings from the worst defenses in the past 5 years, even marcus washington came from the COLTS (even though he turned out great) they were a horrid defense. It's one thing to sign free agents, it's another to sign free agents that came from bad systems.

Why sign a slow archuleta when you already have a slow taylor back there?

Yep. I've said even during the good defensive years that the D needed an overhaul. Last year, the Cowboys were perfect examples. They spent their two first round draft choices on the front seven, with Demarcus Ware and Marcus Spears, then went out and selected Chris Canty (DE, UVa) in the 4th round just to be sure.

It all starts up front, for the offense and defense. Snyderatto haven't learned that yet, and I'm not sure they ever will.

Maybe you'll answer my question. Since everyone else who says we need a GM can't or won't answer my question. Give me some names of some possible GMs. And if we hire said GM, then what is the front office structure? Is Vinny gone? Is Gibbs no longer President? What say does Gibbs, assuming under your scenario he's still a part of the organization, have in player personnel? What about director of scouting Louis Riddick, what happens to him? What about Dan Snyder what does he do? Write the checks and keep his mouth shut?

All fans heard it's not the regulor season, yet. We will not show our plays on defense or offense until the regulor season. They have been in shock since the 1st Lost to the Vikings. The coaches had been reading the press clippings since they got the free agents they wanted. 9-7 will not make the playoffs, but it will keep Brunell on the field. Al Saunders is not convince that Campbell is the guy since he arrive and Campbell will most likely end up playing somewhere else in 2 years.

I wouldn't make the assumption that what he's telling the press is the same thing he's telling the players. I really really don't think he told them it was ok to feel fine about losing.

There's no way Campbell is playing somewhere else in 2 years, unless of course he turns out to be another Ryan Leaf type QB. But we won't find that out until next year.

I doubt Gibbs ever "allowed the players to feel ok about losing". They have all been there, done that as far as the preseason goes. They know what the goals are, and the first priority is not to win the games, but to get a feel for talent for when cuts must be made, make sure the guys learn to play as a team and properly execute the plays called on both sides of the ball. If you happen to win, great. If not, it's not the end of the world because it doesn't count.

I can't honestly say any GM names come to mind at the present who would want to work for Snyder, but Ron Wolfe is one I wouldn't mind seeing be the GM here. There's nothing wrong with Snyder doing the same thing JKC did when he was owner, he oversaw the work og his GM Bobby Bethard during Gibbs first stretch, and let him run the team including overseeing the draft and choosing the players. Vinny should go back where Marty sent him in 2001 and Gibbs should be the head coach which position he holds at this time. It would seem to me difficult for Gibbs to come back to the game afetr having been gone for so long, and begin to instantly make personell decisions because it's not likely he would know the players around the league having been absent from the game. I have never been throughly convinced of the fact JG is of the greatest personell men, he and Bethard had their falling out's too, some of which was due to Gibbs's overwhelming loyalty to veteran players. And yes!! Snyder should just write the checks and shut the hell up.
