Re: Must-Read Article on GW and the Defense
I didn't read this article till after our great win, but it was quite interesting considering how much pressure the front 4 generated. Was it because GW just turned them loose?
Anyone remember Marty's 0-5 start? After that, he changed his ways & gave in to the players, went on a 5 game win streak & finished 8-8. Maybe GW made some conciliatory gestures to the team & changed some assignments to their liking? |
Re: Must-Read Article on GW and the Defense
I watched the post game show, and they interviewed a few players and all were asked about the article. None seemed more plausible than Shawn Springs. I for one, thought it was him who leaked the mood of the locker room to the press until I heard him speak at length on the issue. He was very frank and disappointed that people actually thought it was him.
I mean, he was really loose and joking around during the entire time they were speaking to him about it. Never did he get agitated. I thought it was interesting how he said, yeah, Gregg Williams is arrongant, but so am I and that's why we get along so well. He summed everything up by saying how he was raised by a professional football player (Ron Springs, ironically) and that is unacceptable behavior, and if for no other reason his dad taught him better. With that being said, it had to be AA. He may not be the only one with an axe to grind, but looking at his situation and the fact the article said the player was notable...it kinda points to him. |

I was listening to Triple X radio after the game, and they had a Springs quote, saying something to extent of, "hey anyone can be a T.O. in the league, but when you come out and say that, atleast put your name on it.". |
Re: Must-Read Article on GW and the Defense
I never thought it was Springs, he's just not that kind of guy.

Perhaps we're seeing a similar thing happening with the current team. |

It was Lemar Marshall

Then who could it be Matty? It sounded alot like Springs to me, and to be frank, I am a bit surprised it wasnt him. Maybe AA, Wright, or Rumph?? I mean if it was one those guys, then I think they are just bitter? |

Seems like AA would be a good guess to me. |
Re: Must-Read Article on GW and the Defense
Did anyone know that Christian Morton was playing for the Panthers and playing well? I just read a story that was praising him. NFL.com - Carolina Panthers Team News

Re: Must-Read Article on GW and the Defense
I am just tossing out names, but he could be considered sort of a secondary guy. He also is a starter. His contract could be easly exited. He also was familiar with everything
|
Re: Must-Read Article on GW and the Defense
Of course it's AA. Who else is bitter as hell at this point? AA is not playing and his job was taken by Vincent. Plus Fox and Dourghty are playing in front of him. He's basically been embarrased by the coaches. So everything points to him.

Hail US 44
Sorry if it offends you personally, but if you read it & look at the way we've played on D this year objectively, the article merely provides details as to why we've underachieved so much. Don't you think there are reasons why until yesterday there was virtually no gang-tackling & plenty of missed tackles? If it's all fiction, it surely is believable. |
Re: Must-Read Article on GW and the Defense
According to Springs and a couple of other Skins, the article is BS and ACTUALLY part of what help motivate them against Carolina
|
Re: Must-Read Article on GW and the Defense
But they did acknowledge that some of that article may be true. Either way, it seems to have 'rallied the troops', so perhaps it was for the best.

Re: Must-Read Article on GW and the Defense
having a friend who's family is close to greg williams does absolutely nothing to discount the accuracy of this article... so if you have some proof that anything in it is untrue, i'd love to hear it, and if not, why do you think it's garbage?

Re: Must-Read Article on GW and the Defense
"And Gregg Williams says all the time, it's not my money. If Gregg was the one writing the checks, I don't know if he'd handle it that way. But he says it in meetings. He gives us speeches about, 'If you don't know what to do, you're going to be standing next to me on the sideline, I don't give a f---. That's where you're going to be. I need to be able to trust you. Hey, it's not my money. I don't care how much you make, I don't care who you are, I'm not the one writing the check, you need to know your assignments, know what to do.' That's what Gregg says. I wonder how Snyder would feel if he heard that one."
If half of the comments about Williams made in this article are true, it's shocking, but it also explains alot about what's happening this season and why he fell out of favor in Buffalo. However, players dropping Snyder's name to rationalize their poor performance, and claiming that coaches "can't act like Buddy Ryan" is a sissified copout. I'm glad that Williams doesn't care how much a player makes, and that he's willing to sit him, regardless of who he is. And who gives a shit if he calls somebody out, 12 hours before a game? If getting called out for playing like ass makes a player have a little pity party for himself on the field, he shouldn't have a job in the NFL. |
Re: Must-Read Article on GW and the Defense
I do not believe very much of that article. It smells fishy, kind of like tuna or jerry jones. Just because it is in print does not make it the truth. JC looked great in my perspective.

I hope that's the majority view on the team. One thing is certain; the article hinges on ONE player's testimony as an anonymous source. Any 1 person can exaggerate or misrepresent the intentions of others. What I think is important about the article is that it is believable when a defense falls as far as this one has & until sunday didn't seem to play w/any consistent effort. |
Re: Must-Read Article on GW and the Defense
I still believe that GW will be the fall guy for this failed season.

Hail 44
But imagine if we had lost, and our D still looked back. Everyone would be calling for GW's head, even if it was just one player that came out and said this. Seriously it is all good and well for everyone to NOW say the article was BS, but we were all pissing in our pants when this first came out. |
Re: Must-Read Article on GW and the Defense
IMO, if the problem were GW, why would the D choose now to perform well? They wouldn't. If anything, you would think it would be the opposite. With the article, it would be the perfect time to really bury GW, if that's what the team wanted to do. That's not what they did. By appearances, GW is somewhat, if not totally an egomaniac. If that were a crime in the NFL, you would almost ALL be guilty. I think the article is BS

Re: Must-Read Article on GW and the Defense
I thought it was someone in the secondary, b/c of the "they" talk. "They" being the dline. It seemed to talk pretty personally of the safeties and corners. So that would leave Springs, AA, ST, or Rogers most likely.
Springs- IMO if you heard the interview, no its not ST-i wouldn't think so, he doesn't talk to the media at all & GW goes out of his way to compliment him Rogers-i thought this was a possibility until he spoke after the game and said he has GW back (still a possibility) AA-more likely There has to be some truth to this article so it's not totally bs. When you're 4-7 there will be some unhappy folks. It's probably just one person spouting off. FWIW- i don't care how much $ a player makes either, GW and Coaches shouldn't. So, i think the letting of players go has hurt this team, mainly b/c of the "new" guys they bring in that get overpaid. |
Re: Must-Read Article on GW and the Defense
According to Skins lunch show, the author of the article "Tom Friend" will be on the Riggins show this afternoon.

It isnt all the players fault, the coach bears responsibility as well, he is being paid millions of dollars to solve this problem. Even Springs said some of the article was true. |
Re: Must-Read Article on GW and the Defense
Of course some of the article is true. That's not the issue. The issue is whether or not it is appropriate for a player to run squealing to the press. I say no and all the Redskins who are on the record agree with me. Those who say its Springs have an agenda. They want the source to have credibility. They know that if the source is Rumph then the article seems a like a lot less of a big deal. There are certain people, Czaban for instance, who dislike the current regime (Snyder AND Gibbs) and want to sew mayhem and discord. Czaban is a pariah to the Redskins organiztion and this is his way of fighting back. If the UnRedskin sucks as a football player, who cares what he says? So they pretend it's Springs even after his denial.
BTW, I think it's Rumph. Everyone has latched on to th word "noteable" but reporters do that all the time. Noteable is completely subjective. You can be "noteable" for your lack of ability or playing time. You can be "notable" for being late everyday. I also don't buy the "it's okay because they won" theory. Maybe I'm vindictive and Nixonian but I would find out who it was and cut them from the team. Even if it is a star. I hate the press. Anyone who would talk to a reporter like that is the worst kind of scum. |
Re: Must-Read Article on GW and the Defense
I just emailed with Mike Florio (who runs Pro Football Talk.com) asking him to keep his ear to the ground for any leaks he may come across. He said that he thinks it's Troy Vincent. This would make some sense cause his contract is up at the end of the year and he was the starter for a while (and may yet be when he comes back from injury -- though Vernon Fox has looked good!).
I know some of you dont love his work, but I think he is dead-on accurate nearly all of the time and he definitely has an extensive network of NFL contacts both in front offices and inside locker rooms. I'll let you all know if he posts anything on the site or writes back to me! |
Re: Must-Read Article on GW and the Defense
It would make sense. Vincent has an intimate knowlege of Williams, even though you'd think a vet wouldn't run his mouth like that, especially if he's fairly brand new.

If you cut someone everytime there was an outburst or their opinion was publicly stated, you'd have teams lining up to get Tiki Barber and a few others right now. Also, I happend to think Steve Czaban likes the Redskins and pulls for them every week. No, I haven't heard him say it, per se, but that's the feeling I get when I listen to him. |

Doesn't that seem odd considering he's only been here for a little more than a month? Plus, if he thought Williams sucked up in Buffalo, why would he choose to come down here when they released him? Something about TV being the player doesn't add up, IMO. I don't think it has to be a player who's been here for years, per se, but I do think it's at least a guy who's been here since the preseason. AA/Rumph/Wright/Prealou (sp?) all seem to be likely suspects to me. |
Re: Must-Read Article on GW and the Defense
Vincent has already openly talked about the discord when he arrived here, so why would he talk off the record? As for Prioleau, he was with Williams in Buffalo this guy doesn't seem to have been someone who knew GW before?
|
Re: Must-Read Article on GW and the Defense
Hmm, so Rumph seems like someone who might run his mouth. You'd definitely think it was someone who was benched.

Tushé salesman. I do think it's a DB of some sort though. The guy seems to know how the position meetings go and how the players are communication problems on the field. That doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a DB, but it just seems most likely. But, I've been wrong many, many, many times in the past. |
Re: Must-Read Article on GW and the Defense
If we're sticking with the assumption that it was someone from the secondary then I'm thinking AA. Actually, I want it to be AA so we have an even better excuse to cut him regardless of salary cap woes that will come about. That dude had one job yesterday: protecting the punter. That's it! The only thing he needed to concentrate on the whole week was how to protect the punt from getting blocked. He even f*cked that up. He doesn't want to be here.
