Wouldn't want him to get a 40 million $$$$ deal , but would rather keep him than try and get another guy to learn the playbook when we have a young QB and an aging OL .

no hutchinson a way better player. but were not talking about hutch. were talking about dock or stein. i would take dock i think he coming into his own. If were going to overpay like we always do. I would rather spend it on dock than someone else from another team. But hey i know you guys love FA because we never have any draft picks. I would rather keep my own.

Ohh i forgot we only give big signing bonuses to players from other teams not your own draft picks. Because you can sell more new jersheys instead of the ones already on the team. Duh

Re: Should Dockery Be Re-signed Before Free Agency Starts (next Friday)

Chief:

The problem is that the Skins should not overpay anyone - not a current member of the team nor a FA who played for someone else last year.

However, we know that the Skins have this tendency to overpay based on past evidence. So, if they are in the situation where they are about to overpay someone and there are two possible players who will be the recipient of the overpayment, here's the rule I would use:

If you must overpay someone, OVERPAY THE BETTER PLAYER. I don't care who he played for last year, get the best player even if you are going to pay more for him than he's worth.

And Dockery isn't the best lineman on the team at the moment. He improved a lot last year and with that improvement, he moved just above the level of "average" as an OL. If any team gives him a monster contract, they are taking a HUGE risk and will be saddled with that contract for a while - - because no one will trade for Dockery if he comes with a monster contract strapped to his back.

Oh, by the way, Steinbach is a significantly better guard than Dockery.

I'm saying though, if Dock is asking to be at a level equal to or higher than the highest paid linemen in the league (free agent or not) then the Redskins have to think twice about it. Ideally, I'd like for us to keep Dock, just like we re-signed Jansen and Betts. But he's not worth hurting ourselves in the grand scheme of things.

Unfortunately, he holds the upper hand in the court of public appeal.

It has nothing to do with sucking up to the Skins... I'm just trying to figure out why you would blow the bank on a guy that's not even our best lineman.

Damn i dont rememeber anyone here last year caring about what we paid to players. Wow 10 mill here and there everywhere, for bums like lloyd, randel el,AA,carter. Worst of all throwing extra draft picks away on lloyd and duckett. But we have a chance to sign a good player to stay we cant pay him because he cant be the hightest paid olineman that laughable. We have the highest paid saftey in AA. you tell me he better than Taylor, shoot he not even beter than clark we let go last year. Where were you last year. We cant pay AA its not fair to taylor blah blah blah. We spent the most money on WR in the league 10 mill here and there where were you last yr talking about we cant spend it on WR. I didnt here you guys saying these guys shouldnt be paid as much as other wr. You guys were singing the FA tune all last year wow we can go around the cap blah blah blah. It doesnt matter lol. Now all the sudden we cant pay a good player that we developed that a shame. That why we will never win until we start paying our own. Why do you think the players on the team feel this way. Because they see it year in and year out we pay other player but never take care of our own.

MTK 02-22-2007 11:34 PM

Re: Should Dockery Be Re-signed Before Free Agency Starts (next Friday)

Well I guess if we don't care about the cap why do we spend so much time talking about it?

If money is no object let's just make Dockery the highest paid player in the league. I guess we should have just given Betts a bigger contract than Portis too. Hey, they're OUR guys. Pay them with no regard to the cap or the future. That will make up for our past mistakes!

I think it comes down to that basic philosophical question. Does a player earn his money from his previously accomplished body of work (Archuleta) or for his potential future (Dockery)

Or do you just say F it and give him a blank check, and then convert him to another position.

Not saying pay him the biggest contract in the league. No i was surprise that the skins actually paid betts that was very unusal for the skins. Since when does anyone in the skins management care about the cap. If they did we would have learn our lesson from 2000. But the last couple of year is proof we didnt. Im saying pay the man a fair contract instead of letting him leave and paying more for someone else like we alway do. But keeps towing the company line it been working for us, just keep siging other players is the way to go. Damn how many big FA have the colts sign in the last 5 year huh? How about the Pats, Bears,Panters, Steelers?? I bet all those team together couldnt have got near as many high price FA we have gotten in the last 5 yrs. Thank god we have all those SuperBowl trophies to show for our way of doing things.

We're back to bitching about 2000 again I see. Good times. Anyhow, the irony in your rambling rant is that the Patriots have for the past several done exactly what you are complaining about the Redskins potentially doing, "not paying their own" The Pats are constantly making roster changes. And the Bears? Well, this whole Lovie Smith mess shows just how cheap that franchise is. There's no way in H-E-Double Hockey Sticks that that shit would fly with Redskins fans.

the difference between the skins and the pats they have real football people running the team. Not the joke that we have now. If we had the Pats GM or damn anyone elses GM maybe i would go with the idea of not signing Dock. But damn we dont have much good young talent on this roster not to sign him.

Vinny a joke always has been since he left ND. Danny doesnt have a clue and poor Joe over his head. He need a real GM to make him win. But that not exciting to little danny having real football people runnng the team. But at least he has someone to play racketball with

Re: Should Dockery Be Re-signed Before Free Agency Starts (next Friday)

I had a discussion about this with a friend of mine yesterday and I am of the notion that the Skins give Dock a nice contract but not a ridiculous one. He feels that Dockery should get whatever he wants because he is the youngest lineman we have and because of his upside. I say you give him a little over what Randy Thomas is making but not higher than Samuels. That's just my opinion, I don't think it would be getting over on him either. I mean we all know that he isn't the best lineman the Skins have, hell he HAS to know it. For the sake of continuity pay the man but a highest paid lineman he is not !

Spear Chucker is a racial slur.

It may not have intended to be an offensive name, but erring on the safe side of offending people on a racial level is always a good idea.

FO (and some fans) needs to get over the idea that 'superstar' players are needed at every position. However, if we have to replace 1/5 guys on the OL, we're in a better situation here than in our secondary. Problem is, we're not drafting more guys in the later rounds like Dockery and keeping them around.

The personnel issues will continue to haunt the 'Skins until they hire a GM. I like Floyd Reese...we should hire this guy.

Re: Should Dockery Be Re-signed Before Free Agency Starts (next Friday)

This is quite ridiculous. If Dockery does not resign before next Friday, i'll be officially pissed off. It's pathetic that this front office cannot resign quality players to good contracts, yet go out and overspend on any free agent that tickles their fancy. Do they not care about team chemistry, camaderie, or anything along those lines? Does anyone else care that the offensive line has been one of the best in the league these last few years, that Dockery has made huge strides and he's also been our most durable lineman ever since he joined the starting lineup? For them to not have a deal done a week before free agency starts says that they are pinching every penny they can when it comes to our own free agents, yet they give a ten mil. signing bonus to whoever they want.

Lets say the skins as usual let one of their own go in FA. Maybe since Jansen has never really been the same since his injury in the HOF game. Maybe move him to dock postion and try to keep wade from leaving and mover him to RT.

Great idea but, with the way shit is running at this point with Vincent, Wright, and Holdman possibly out the door, I think Wade will probably be gone too. If we dont resign DOCK I will throw up and put it in a little baggie and personally deliver to Daniel Snyder myself.
