Todd certainly is entitled to lots of praise; he's played about as well as one could hope and has greatly exceeded expectations. But, given his limited playing time during the regular season, I think it's probably a good idea to temper our expectations. He looks damn good and may continue to look good, but it's highly doubtful he will continue to post 100+ QB ratings.

I guess I've just seen us fans get sky high when we see cause for hope and then get depressed when things don't work out exactly how we wanted them to. I'm guardedly optimistic about Todd and, more generally, our offense's future.
He's playing so damn well though. There isn't much weakness in his play right now and there isn't much I can see that would change that. It all depends on the players around him - more specifically the line, but they have also been playing great. He has more than enough weapons to throw to right now - even Portis seems to be getting in the mix more.

From a realistic point of view, I think things should continue as they have been, offensively - unless an opposing team wins the battle in the so-called trenches. But like I said the line has found its rhythm and finally jelled the way we wanted them to for so long. It's weird because this is the year that there seems to be the most injuries along the oline.

I remember Collins being the only quarterback to pass for a touchdown in preseason and they said that don't count
Campbell is Gibb's man and Saunders can have a token 2nd for now
I remember collins coming in his first year and stinking it up in the preseason and everyone wanted to cut him, and I cant help but keep thinking that there is some reason the guy hasn't earned a starting job anywhere in over a decade in the league.

Again, I have to reiterate that I am extremely impressed and pleased with his performance so far. I'm downright thankful for it, actually, and am NOT in any way attacking the guy or discrediting his recent accomplisments...

Im just trying to look at his entire body of work and place it in our current situation. I personally think TC is a younger version of the QB we'll probably be seeing a bit of this weekend... BJ himself.. A wiley vet that will play well when needed but doesn't quite have what it takes to be a consistent starting QB anymore. I may be wrong, but that's the feeling I get. I speculate that there will be a team with a decent enough secondary to cover our guys that will have a pass rush that's effective and we'll be crying for mobile QB.

I also really want Campbell to get an opportunity to play in a big game if he's healthy and we're still alive. He worked very hard to help this team get into this situation, and I know he made some mistakes, but he's a young QB. I'd like to see him get some big game experience.
That was this year's preseason. canthetuna was talking about last year's preseason (Collins's first with the team).

Re: A Playoff question: Campbell or Collins?

The critics say that if the Redskins defeat the Cowboys to get into the playoffs, Campbell will be practicing the following week. I have no clue if Campbell will be back in the starting lineup. It is the coaches decision. With the success that we are having with Collins, I rather keep him in.

Re: A Playoff question: Campbell or Collins?

Collins has to stay in there.

I guess the real question is...if Collins stinks it up and we get a win anyhow what will happen then?

I guess that's why coaches get paid the big bucks. I imagine JG would stick w/ Collins.

FWIW i think Collins will have a good game.

IF Campbell does play in the postseason (assuming we make it) I really hope watching Todd Collins run a successful offense has rubbed off on him...

that would be our best bet i think

The hot hand that got us where we are at. Collins

Collins is smart...he doesn't have the overall tools, but intelligence is more important in this offense, so stick with Collins.

This is such a no brainer now that the skins went 4-0 and killed the cowgirls.
Todd Collins.

in fact, some may suggest he start next year (if we can keep him)
I am not suggesting that, unless we need to keep an open competition in preseason in order to keep this guy on the roster

Honestly, I think Todd Collins has earned himself a multi-year deal to compete for a starting job somewhere else. I doubt he will be back next year.

I think he's earned the unquestionable right to start for quite some time. Another damn impressive showing and he's changed my cautiously optimistic attitude into a positively thrilled one.

I don't think Collins will be highly sought after unless Saunders comes with him.
That being said, I am all for him competing for the starting job HERE next year...competition never hurt anyone, and Campbell could use some quality bench learning.

For the pro Campbell folks, would you still bench Collins now??

to bench Collins now would be lunacy.

Collins' numbers on the year

67 of 105 (63.8%) for 888 yards, 5 TD, 0 INT. QB rating of 106.4.

And most importantly, 4 wins.

only if Campbell were 110% healthy... but I stand by what I said. Its one of those decisions I'm glad I don't have to make, as I may be wrong, especially in light of the team's performance thus far. And I wouldn't call it "benching" Collins, I'd say you are allowing Campbell to return to his job.

Either way, though... If they're both healthy, we have a pretty good option if we're down on offense late in a game to provide a spark if needed...

Well I think you may be right! He will get a big raise and probably get it from another team although the skins are paying there #3 QB huge money so who knows!! But after he wins the SB for us I think he is looking for millions to take care of the family as he only has a few years left...
Honestly, I think Todd Collins has earned himself a multi-year deal to compete for a starting job somewhere else. Re: A Playoff question: Campbell or Collins?

I've been feeling kind of bad for Jason Campbell lately. The media can't be faulted for jumping on the Cinderella Todd Collins story, and consequently, it's like the guy has been erased from the universe for the past month, I mean -- you NEVER hear about him, or even see him during games.

I do think Joe should ride Collins' hot hand as far as it'll take us in the playoffs or unless anything bad happens during a game, but I also think Jason has a lot to do with the feelings of hope the team generated this year, and hope that isn't overshadowed in DC's latest QB love affair. This town loves a QB controversy and I don't see any benefit to destroying the progress Jason has made this season.

Re: A Playoff question: Campbell or Collins?

I hope this whole QB carousel doesn't start again. I feel like its pointless, TC is a very consistent and reliable but yet not starting QB material in my mind. He's perfect at second string. He did what a second stringer is supposed to do: Go in there, know the plays and play consistently. I mean we don't want TC to be the next Trent Green. Some old dude running around back there and then get injured and then the team has a dud of a season. There's no doubt that TC goes throughout our playoff run but as soon as next year comes around JC is back. JC is the future of this franchise, not TC.

campbell will learn from watching todd plays in the playoffs. it takes time and effort to learn 700 pages playbook. and it shows how effective it is when the QB is well versed on it

Re: A Playoff question: Campbell or Collins?
OK - let's say that the Redskins beat the Cowboys next week with Dallas having nothing to play for and the Redskins having to win to get in. Lets say Collins continues to look sharp in the win against Dallas.

I heard that on the game Jason Campbell is stretching again and he may be able to return in a couple of weeks.

My question is do you put Campbell back in if he is healthy or ride this thing with Collins until the season ends?

This thread is not about the future of Jason Campbell - he is the unquestioned long term starter at qb for us - I am just asking about the postseason for this year only.

Thoughts?
I say let it ride with Collins. He has the team moving in the right direction with no lapses.

The only reason I don't play Campbell is because if he re-injures that knee, then we very well may have to start all over again at QB. And, although Collins is playing extremely well, he is still 36.

We dont need to rush him back on the field, let him get into game shape, practice, and then come in as the #2 throughout the playoffs.

AS for next year, we will cross that bridge when we get to it.

Re: A Playoff question: Campbell or Collins?

Although anything can happen, I cant see how Collins isnt the #1 QB going into training camp. Right now as far as this O goes, Colling is light years ahead of Campbell.

Re: A Playoff question: Campbell or Collins?

Next year is a different story. Let's not even worry about that yet.
