Re: Redskins Reportedly Bringing OLs Elton Brown and Ray Willis in for Visit
To help my pea brain. are you sayng you think we will sign Willis then Brown? It sounded like the person after you was trying to say we will probably sign Willis instead of Brown. Can we not get them both? then look elswhere in the draft and pick up a OL in later rounds? :)
edited: Sorry did not mean to put words in his mouth. I guess it was the way you wrote your piece that got me wondering why not both?
From what i hear the Redskins are more intrigued with Willis given he's 6'6 315 and started 10 games. But I wonder why he is still on the market? I think we should get both guys a depth (with Willis having a better chance competing for a starting role) but I'm saying I think the Redskins will sign Willis before they sign Brown. |
Is there a reason we are not even considering Khalif Barnes? I may be ignorant on him but if I remember he was pretty highly regarded coming out of school. Anyways I do like Ray Willis just wondering if Barnes has more potential to excel.
I'll be honest with you, Barnes doesn't impress me. I watched him during the season and saw him get burnt on protection and commit lots of penalties, I think he would be like having another Heyer. Willis would be a better option. |
Re: Redskins Reportedly Bringing OLs Elton Brown and Ray Willis in for Visit
I think we are definitely looking at both seriously. Ray Willis would come in to compete for a starting job while Im sure Brown is more for depth. From what I've read it seems its not an either/or but they are looking to add both. Hopefully thats what happens. Still wondering about Barnes though.
I have no answer to that, I mean Barnes has started 57 of 60 games, which means he has more experience than Willis, and he has blocked for Fred Taylor and MJD, so he has some intriguing credentials. This might be why the Redskins are wary of him. Barnes called the white officer who pulled him over a racist and said the officer was a "KKK devil who hates all colored people." I agree. I mentioned this before in another thread somewhere, but Barnes allowed more sacks (7.5) than any other blind-side blocker in the league. I know we wouldn't play him at LT, but still. The fact that he gets burned so consistently doesn't sound too attractive to me. |

That's interesting. It says the page was last updated late last night. Maybe someone out there knows something the rest of us don't. Or maybe a hopeful Raider fan made a premature edit. Re: Redskins Reportedly Bringing OLs Elton Brown and Ray Willis in for Visit
I just saw Jason Reid on ComCast and he said we're talking to Willis. He sounded optimistic to me about signing him. He also said feelers were sent out to see if Marcus would be interested in coming back but didn't sound as optimistic about that.

We'll see. I'm not getting the impression they really want Willis all that much. That's not to say they aren't going to sign him, just that I'm getting a lukewarm vibe from them |

Ohhh... I hope not :(
You are acting like he is Erik Williams. If they sign him, he will be more like Robin Williams. Put it this way, I haven't heard that Seattle is salary cap strapped, so there is a reason he is expendable. |

I wouldn't want the reaction to be totally out of line with his skill level.
I hope we're more serious about him than DJ Hackett though. |

OT Willis re-ups with Seahawks for two years
Posted: March 6th, 2009 | NFL.com Staff | Tags: Ray Willis, Seattle Seahawks OT Ray Willis has re-signed with the Seattle Seahawks on a two-year deal. Willis, who started 10 games and saw action in all 16 games for Seattle in 2008, has spent his entire four-year career with the Seahawks. He was selected in the fourth round (105th overall) in the 2005 draft. ...what now?? |

Maybe it has already been said, but Willis has signed with the Seahawks

Huh......Marcus OR Mason if Mason? So based on a few pre-season games....you consider Mason a stud? Not much of a body of work to consider someone that didn't even make the 53 man squad a stud...ya think? How much time did you see him on the field in NY Jet country...? None... |
Re: Redskins Reportedly Bringing OLs Elton Brown and Ray Willis in for Visit
It would make me feel better if they would go ahead and sign Elton Brown. He's rated a bit higher than Heyer by Scouts, and AZ's line did a good job protecting Warner last year. Let's not forget that these players are the ones that make the decision of going with one team, and one thing that I don't want is for our team to overpay average players (remember Archuleta?), so if Ray Willis didn't want to come here, well that was his decision.
At #13, we should be able to pick up an o-lineman or LB that can start right away. The team should consider bringing Marcus Washington at a cheaper price, if they do this they can add a serviceable player or two at DE or LB. Let's not forget a couple of things: - People knock on Heyer's talent, however he has another year of being in the Bugel system and will go through another training camp. We can only hope that he can improve and should be given the chance of compete for a starting spot. - The same goes for Rineheart, whatever his problem was he needs to fix that and come up big in 2009. The FO has mentioned Devin Clark, well let's hope we have a diamond in the rough there a la Horton. - We have young players at DE in Jackson, Buzbee, and Jackson who have a year under their belt, that year of experience has got to be worth something. - And finally, we need luck on our side and hope that the likes of Samuels and Thomas do not fall to injury. Right now it is too early (and not smart) to write off this team. We don't know what's going to happen in the draft, one team's mistake (above us) can be our fortune. I don't think anyone can predict that this team is set for failure because you never know what will happen. |

I think if given a few years to develope he would be special no different then JC, Kelly, Thomas, Davis, Tryon, etc. The joke was someone put up feelers put out for Marcus coming back. Marcus Washington Marcus Mason. Get the joke? |

Well, I don't know what the offer (if any) to Willis ultimately was, but I sure got the feeling all along that it probably wasn't going to be much and I guess whatever it was, wasn't enough |

He could have easily used the Redskins offer as a bargaining chip or something. I think they should go after Brown. |

The Raiders deal with Khalif Barnes has reportedly fallen through at the last minute, he's about to sign with another team...wonder who it is?

We can fill at least one, maybe two, starting positions in the draft and we have some young players who, given the chance, might step up and surprise some people. I think if they could get Marcus back at a reasonable contract for 2 years it would be a good move. I also think people are underestimating Heyer. As far as Willis goes, why sign him for more than he's worth? Just so we can say we signed someone? We don't need more mediocre players making more than they're worth. With AH on the line, a couple of picks to help us in the draft, and another year in the WCO, I think we'll be improved from last year. |
