Do you think Denver is going to just decide to trade him all on there own? Maybe this guy wants to go to a team that might have the actual potential of going to a SB in the near future and has a nice flashy owner who likes to spend $$$$$$$$$$ rather liberally. Dan Snyder= Jerry Jones of the East. Personally I don't care if Campbell is unfazed, that doesn't have anything to do with on the field leadership. I agree EK, Cutler might be a slight upgrade to Campbell, but not enough of an upgrade to give up draft picks, at least high end draft picks. |
This is unconfirmed.
However, an inside source says a trade will bring Jay Cutler to Washington is almost complete. The leak came roughly about one hour ago. Negotiations between Cutler’s agent, Pat Bowlen, Daniel Snyder, and the Cleveland Browns management have been ongoing for a few days and all sides seem to be happy. The deal would see Jay Cutler, Tony Scheffler, and Cleveland’s third round pick going to Washington. Jason Campbell and Chris Cooley going to Cleveland and one of Denver’s fifth round picks. Brady Quinn going from Cleveland to Denver, and LaRon Landry from Washington will be going to Denver. We thought that the Bailey-Portis trade was big. Did you read the article? "I always put team goals first, I'm always going care about that before anything individual. But as long as we win as a team, everybody will get what they deserve. That's what it's about." That's the kind of thing you want to hear your QB saying. I'm commending the Jason's attitude. And that does say something about his leadership. Denver has been aggressive thus far in FA improving their team, including 7 guys on defense-their weak spot. They always have a good running game, plus Cutler has one of the best receivers in the league who can be his go to guy for 7-10 years. And, as you mention, he gets to play against the AFC West. Cutler is already playing for a good team. Also, look at the teams rumored to be in the mix for Cutler - Cleveland? Detroit? Not exactly a chance to get to a SuperBowl any time soon. |

Re: Per Vinny Cerrato, JC is our QB this season!
I think JC is going to do just fine this year. I also think Colt is going to be better than a lot of people here think he is. If, IF, Campbell does not have the kind of year he's expected to have in the second year of this offense, then I would like to see Colt given a shot next year, 2010. If JC does continue to get better and Colt does too, that only makes us that much better. To bring another QB in right now would do more harm than good IMO.
I call BS on any trade involving Cooley or Landry. When teams trade, the pro-rated signing bonus comes due immediately (unless there's some uncapped year thing I'm missing). Cooley would be an $ 11M cap hit this year and Landry would be a $ 7M hit this year. No way!
Jason Campbell and picks, possibly. If we could get Cutler, have him agree up front to a long term deal, and do it with Campbell and our 3rd, then fine but if not then pass. Cutler is an upgrade over Campbell, but not a huge one.
Not in the locker room. |

Re: Per Vinny Cerrato, JC is our QB this season!
Who cares who the QB is? It won't matter unless there is improvement on the offensive line and they find some depth for the injuries that are definitely coming.
Also, if James Thrash is a starting receiver this year we will be lucky to be 7-9. |

Anyway, interesting tidbit from ESPN Rumors:
Titans to get in the mix for Cutler? Jay Cutler | Broncos | Interested: Titans? With the rumor mill drumming up a Jay Cutler-to-the-Washington Redskins trade yesterday, Redskins executive vice president of football operations Vinny Cerrato felt the need to squash that report, telling the Washington Times, "Jason [Campbell] is our quarterback." While that takes another team off the list of potential destinations for Cutler, the Tennessee Titans have stuck around in the conversation, and David Climer of the Nashville Tennessean thinks trading for Cutler would be a great move for the team. Other folks have pointed to Cutler's background in Tennessee, from when he starred at Vanderbilt, as well as his past relationship with Titans offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger, from when both were with the Denver Broncos. This action would be somewhat against the grain, as the Titans tend to stockpile draft picks instead of trade them, and a deal for Cutler likely would involve one or more picks going to the Broncos along with Kerry Collins. Collins was promised he would be the starter in 2009 before he signed a new deal with Tennessee, so the team certainly would need to move him if it brought in another player to start. In fact, Collins told Paul Kuharsky of ESPN.com recently that, "They've made it pretty clear what my role is here and I don't expect that to change any time soon." While a trade might be unlikely for these reasons, it also would be a version of do-over, as the Titans passed on Cutler in the 2006 draft with the third overall pick, opting to instead go with Vince Young.
|

Cutler to Redksins, Cassell to Broncos, Campbell to Chiefs. Discuss.
Let's get this straight. Because the Redskins deny an interest in trading Campbell and because no reputable reporter has found evidence of a trade, that is evidence that a trade is imminent. This is the type of hard hitting reporting that I am going to miss once newspapers like the Philadelphia Inquirer disappear. (Not to mention the fact that the trade makes no sense for the Chiefs). |

Re: Per Vinny Cerrato, JC is our QB this season!
I feel bad for Campbell, hearing all these crazy rumors. Kudos to him for not acting like many other players would and complain.
Honestly, unless a credible source like ESPN, CBS Sports, SI, or NFL Network people should not be paying attention to this. |
Re: Per Vinny Cerrato, JC is our QB this season!
I wish Draft day would just come and make the madness cease. No source has said anything more than pure speculation.
Let me tell you a little story. Two seasons ago one at the end of a preseason game some local media guy got on TV and confirmed that an inside source said that the Skins were going to trade Brunell to Seattle. Long story short, it never happened. Don't believe crap until the Redskins or Adam Schefter officially announces it. Moderate speculation is ok, but don't too caught up in it. |
Re: Per Vinny Cerrato, JC is our QB this season!
There are a lot of crazy rumors, but where there is smoke there is fire generally. So, I wouldn't be shocked if our FO approached the subject. It's not going to happen though.
Let's get this much clear though. Please don't believe anything VC sais...ever. Whatever comes out of his mouth means nothing to me. |
Re: Per Vinny Cerrato, JC is our QB this season!
Any reliable source such as Schefter or Clayton have said they have heard nothing about the Redskins being interested. So until one of those guys says anything different, these are worthless internet rumors.

I don't want Cutler either. We'd probably overpay anyway like we did for CP. I thought Champ for CP was more than fair. Why'd we have to throw in a 2nd round pick?
I've been wondering that forever. I mean the one thing you can't find is a shutdown corner. And atleast going by the draft the experts feel you can find a running back in the 4th round. I mean I do believe Portis is special, But they should have given us the pick. |
What are you saying? That VC never tells the truth (lies) or he keeps stuff hush, hush until the deal is done?
No, i would never want a GM or FO executive to show his hand. It's like in baseball, most GM's have a way of shadowing what they are doing w/ out coming out and saying we're not doing this or that. They do it in a way that's smooth. Does that make sense? VC isn't too smooth? Am i off base here? It's not that big of a deal...i was just trying to point out that i don't put any emhasis on what VC says. Why would you? |
Re: Per Vinny Cerrato, JC is our QB this season!
The responses to the Yahoo article are hilarious, but they sure do help dispell the rumors. It seems very few folks outside of Skinsville have a high opinion of Campbell either. The reasoning of the mass disbelief being that KC going from Cassel to Campbell would be a definite downgrade. Now I sort of wish this crazy shit might become a reality.

We'd have to definitely give up at least this year's first round pick, maybe more picks, and also Campbell in order to land Cutler. Anyone who is excited about that isn't thinking straight IMO. We have too many other needs to waste our time with this crap. |

Re: Per Vinny Cerrato, JC is our QB this season!
Hmm, zcezcest1, who comments on the Redskins Insider blog, says that he has inside info that they are going after Cutler and trying to orchestrate a three-way deal with Denver, Zona, and the Redskins. If Cutler comes here, Shanahan will be hired. Campbell and someone else(One was with Cooley, but it can't be him due to the cap hit) goes to Arizona, and Leinart goes to Denver along with someone else or draft picks.
Whoever his source is, I don't know. He may be being fed dummy info, or it's true... |

Zona just paid big money to keep Warner, why bring a starting QB like JC along, to keep Warner on a short leash? And why would Denver bring in a young QB that will need development and has some question marks. I know that I'm not for this, but something like this would make our FO look like genius and make Denver's look like Matt Millen. |
Re: Per Vinny Cerrato, JC is our QB this season!
I would guess that Campbell will be a backup. Then again, having Larry Fitz to throw would be very tempting if I were a QB, even as a backup...Plus, Warner's old and won't be playing for long.
He says that Mcdaniels believes that he can develop any QB. Cassel was Leinart's backup, soooo... Also, Zorn stays, but is demoted to offensive coordinator. |

Yeah, but Denver's not that bad on offense, actually. Brandon Marshall had 100+ receptions last year, Eddie Royal is a stud(and pretty humble too), and Stokley is a possession receiver in the slot. They also have a stud LT in Clady. Cutler was also sacked 12 times last year. Now, some of it was Cutler's ability to buy some time, but even the best of play extenders don't go a whole year with only 12 sacks(unless your Brett Favre in 2004). |

Yeah but their defense sucks. You are right, they do have talent at WR. I just don't know why McDaniels would pick Cassel over Cutler. You can only get so far with a "system" QB. |
