Re: Reasons for drafting Sanchez
so is this implying we will go get the Seahawks #4 with our picks, then trade Campbell to the Jets for their 17th pick?
We'd be lucky to get a 77th pick for Campbell at that point :laughing2 |

As soon as I read the line I busted out laughing. At least he's willing to adapt and doesn't come off as a moron. |
Re: Reasons for drafting Sanchez
I think the conclusion has come and gone. Prior to last yr people were complaining about his slow throwing motion, that he can't read defenses, and does not throw the ball prior to the WR making his cut. He's had what 5 yrs and started 4. Didn't Eli come out the same yr? I understand Eli has had the same offense for several yrs running but JC should be showing some improvement in his ability to read defenses. Improvement in the speed at which he releases the ball. Improvement in his abiblity to get the ball out prior to the WR making his cut so the ball will be where it needs to be when the WR gets there with out having to reach behind to get it or stop. I don't care what system he was in each one he needed to be able to go through all his reads and he's still slow at doing that. 5 yrs. How much longer do you want? 1 more yr? Maybe resign him and see what he has after 3 yrs in the same system?
The things I have mentioned we should have seen improvement from yr to yr. 5yrs later and he still has the same issues. Oh wait he did cut down on his interceptions. He's basically a decent QB not a great QB. or at the least a great backup.
What is that conclusion? That Campbell's good when the rest of the team is good but not good enough to overcome breakdowns and injuries on the offensive line and receiving corpse? That he's effective when given time to throw but not good enough to win games by himself? That sounds an awful lot like the previous superbowl winning quarterbacks I mentioned. If you are suggesting that Campbell has already crossed the bust line you are dreaming. If you are suggesting that it's worth mortgaging the future of the team for the chance to acquire a QB who might possibly not have Campbell's flaws (but who of course might have his own) you are, imo, as misguided as our owner. Again, it's not enough just to criticize Campbell or compare him to other guys. You have to argue how it makes sense to give up what it will take to replace him, and nobody has been able to do that effectively yet. |
Re: Reasons for drafting Sanchez
I rather wait a year and get a McCoy or Bradford still. I have said in the other threads that the main reason this guy shouldn't be so hyped up is that USC is really the only real football team left in the Pac-10 anymore. I mean they have been stacked for what, close to a decade now with talent. They probably could have beat some lower tier NFL teams they have been so stacked with talent and speed as of late. Remember the debate over whether JC was really all that great at Auburn or did he flourish since he had 2 first round pick HBs lining up behind him? The same type of question needs to be asked about Sanchez. Hard to look average or medicore if you have that much talent around you!!!! You probably could say the same about McCouy or Bradford to be fair about it, but damn they play in the Big 12, which is a lot more physical than the Pac-10.
I live just outside of Los Angeles area ( Corona Ca) so I see USC games all season. No I'm not a fan of USC either, but they get the best talent of any school on the westcoast. USC can hold their own to any school in the Nation. Remember the Penn St. game they destroyed them. I work less than 3miles from Mission Viejo High School where Sanchez was preparing for the combine and throwing for NFL scouts. With that said i do like his toughness and leadership qualities but do we needed a QB. JC I believe can get the job done this season and he has something to prove now. He will disprove all the doubters that he can play QB in the NFL. |

Sometimes our receivers do play like corpses. :laughing2 For the record, I don't believe it's time to give up on Campbell -- and it could very well be that he hasn't had enough time to reach his full potential. And no, he doesn't have to be a Hall of Famer to be effective for us. In my mind, I'm just trying to find acceptance for what I really don't want to have happen. |
Re: Reasons for drafting Sanchez
to answer the thread question:
none. even if he were the perfect qb, which he is not, you basically would have to give away to much to get him, and then you screw the locker room up. As it is now, most players will rally for Campbell. Maybe the two who need not be named will step up their play for his sake. but bring a Sanchez in, and trade the world for him, and the locker room just goes to pot. I do have one scenario where I would take though. He falls to us, we trade down, to 16, pick up a third and still take him. Otherwise, no there is no reason to take Sanchez this year. |

These guys are professionals and they know it's a business. They aren't going to sabotage themselves and their careers because they have some sort of irrational devotion to one player. |

Tempers became short at the end of the season, and if we do nothing but get Sanchez, and Portis finds the line breaking down again, yes it could end up going bad. Mainly, because we did not NEED to do this this year. edit: really I just vented because of the irrationality of going after him this year over obvious needs. |
Re: Reasons for drafting Sanchez
go get him cambell is not going to cut it
|
Re: Reasons for drafting Sanchez
Poor JC. He has so many impatient haters.
|
Re: Reasons for drafting Sanchez
Just what does everyone think of Sanchez now?
|
Re: Reasons for drafting Sanchez
^ Although he has a bright future, I'm still glad that we didn't get him. We would have given up too much in terms of players/picks to move up and we would not have gotten Orakpo.
|
Re: Reasons for drafting Sanchez
Sanchez isn't very good, but he's improved over the guy he was earlier in the season, and most importantly, he's in the right place at the right time.

Re: Reasons for drafting Sanchez
Just what does everyone think of Sanchez now?
He's on a team with a pro bowl offensive line, a great running game, very good wideouts, and has a true top 5 defense. Of course he's going to be successful. In here he would have turn into the next David Carr. So let's drop this stupid argument. |
Re: Reasons for drafting Sanchez
That offensive line makes the difference. Why do people think the QB is the only problem in Washington?
|
Re: Reasons for drafting Sanchez
I concur with Ruhskins.

Re: Reasons for drafting Sanchez
Funny how they keep comparing Sanchez to Joe Namath. Is this what you really want? I know that I don't.

LOL Sanchez now has more playoff wins than Romo.
I know the Skins havent done well, this is how i deal with it |

The kid is blessed to have two vital elements essential to being successful, he has a good defense and a good running game. Just the average QB will take thse two anytime. It's not often a rookie QB will get to the championship game, my hat's off to Sanchez and the Jets. "Good Luck!!" in Indy next week. |

How about that OL? If only we could have a line like that, they led the NFL in rushing all year. |

Apparently having a Pro Bowl tackle, guard, and center is not a big deal  ...then again we are Redskins fans |

You're on point dude, that O-line is what makes that running game go. Hope we're taking note and can eventually develop a line like that we can call our own. |
Re: Reasons for drafting Sanchez
It reminds me a lot of Michael Vick. Personally Michael Vick got way to much credit for being at the right place at the right time. With that said I think it's safe to say that I gave Vick the benefit of the doubt for a while so I'll easily do the same thing for Sanchez. In the future though Sanchez is going to need to play a lot better week in and week out. I think he can do it, certainly the pieces are around him to do so but only time will tell.

There you go. Any questions? |
Re: Reasons for drafting Sanchez
If we had an offensive line and a decent wideout corp I would've loved to have drafted him. Honestly, if he had been here it would've been a waste.

Re: Reasons for drafting Sanchez
Sooooo...does anyone have a problem w/ drafting the top LT and RT w/ our 1st and 2nd picks, respectively?
I was thinking G/C in the 4th, or possibly a RB |

Oh yes thanks for the reminder LOL. I think Shanny knows how to draft offensive players, and he knows it's impossible to have any success w/o a dominant Oline. I would guess we bring in at least 2 new starters on the oline, probably through the draft but who knows maybe a FA is on the way. Could be 3 guys even. I'm thinking 2 tackles and at least one interior guy, probably a legit center. |

Exactly. People may scream that he would have been a great pick up for us, but he's playing mediocre football right now. And that's after the Jets used a couple of first rounders and big money free agent dollars making that Oline the beast it is. |
Re: Reasons for drafting Sanchez
Clearly the Jets are winning in spite of Sanchez and not because of him. I will say though, he's an emotional leader and you can tell the players respect him a ton. I think Rex is doing a good job of keeping him in his lane until the game slows down for him more.
|
Re: Reasons for drafting Sanchez
Rex Ryan has done a great job. The credit should go to him and whoever acquired these o-linemen. That's how you build a team. Good job.
|
Re: Reasons for drafting Sanchez
This is basically what I was saying about JC earlier in the season. Campbell would be a FINE QB on a team with a stout, opportunistic defense, solid O-Line and running game.
These Jets are basically following the blueprint of the '00 Ravens: win with defense, and get just enough out of your offense to get by. It's probably not surprising given Ryan's history. Both offenses were mediocre to poor ('09 Jets ranked 17th in points and 24th in yards, while the '00 Ravens were 14th and 16th, respectively), but both had spectacular defenses ('00 Ravens 1st in points allowed and 2nd in yards allowed, while the '09 Jets are 1st in both categories) The '09 Jets run the ball better than the '00 Ravens did, to the tune of about 40 yards a game, but they pass for about 30 yards per game fewer. The '09 Jets have a team passer rating 10 points lower than the '00 Ravens, which seems hard to believe, considering the Ravens went with the dynamite trio of Banks, Redman, and Dilfer that year. So Sanchez is serviceale... with the Jets this year. Would he have been equally serviceable behind our Swiss cheese line? I kinda doubt it. |
Re: Reasons for drafting Sanchez
Sanchez would be in critical condition (still) behind the line Snyder/Ceratto put together.
|
Re: Reasons for drafting Sanchez
Its pretty simple; If you give your QB a solid OL, for the most part, he will succeed
If you give your QB a poor OL, he will not succeed (unless he's Peyton Manning) |
Re: Reasons for drafting Sanchez
Great points on Sanchez and the Jets team . I would love to find two pro-bowl OL in this draft , like the jets did w/ Ferguson/Mangold . I would however not pass up a CB like Revis late rd 1 or 2nd < if we trade down > . We could pick up 1 or 2 OL in F/A , as the F/A OL looks strong at this point . A rb and a bad ass LB would be nice also .

Yeah I agree with this. I did not want us to draft him, but I will give him some props. Rookie QB, 2 road playoffs wins under his belt...Im impressed...I mean that is not easy and he handled the pressure of expectations of the NY media as well. The guy is not playing at a high level, but he has been set up to succeed and has gained the type of experience you want a young QB to go through. |
Re: Reasons for drafting Sanchez
I don't get all the hype. He throws the ball 15 times a game and most of the passes are 5 yards. He makes a play here and there but pretty much any NFL QB could play in the Jets offense. Yeah he's a rah rah guy, big deal. I'm not sold on the guy yet. Clearly the Jets defense and running game are winning games, not Sanchez. I'm glad we didn't take him.
|
Re: Reasons for drafting Sanchez
Rex Ryan has been a great rookie head coach. You really couldn't ask for more out of the guy. He is great for the NY media and has his team ready to play on Sundays. Great Job by everyone on the Jets. That was a team win yesterday.
Game balls to Greene, The Oline, and The defense. |
