I think he's probably better suited for a 4-3, or so I hear. But I don't know that he's a significantly better option than just bringing back Marcus Washington. I'm kinda lukewarm on the thought of bringing Ellis over here. |

Ellis has been a starter for how long??? Did Evans even see the field in Dallas? |

Yeah no doubt, their best in years |
Re: I think this might be our answer for OLB... (Greg Ellis?)
IF we bring him init would be for DE while RAK goes to SLB. Im ready to see how he pans out along with our new Dline.

Actually, yeah he did. 2001 (and a little in 2002) |
Re: I think this might be our answer for OLB... (Greg Ellis?)
Stop gap solution that is TOO OLD, lets build up our young guys ie. Blades, and those draft picks.

Well then picking up a long time Cowboy starter is just not the way to go IMO. Plus we've already got two old DE's. |
Re: I think this might be our answer for OLB... (Greg Ellis?)
Ok first greg still has it and yes if he would join your team it would be as a DE he is best suited for that position in the 4-3 and he's still pretty good specially as a pure pressure DE.

Ellis spent the better part of his career as a 4-3 DE. At North Carolina and up until Parcells made the switch to the 3-4 in Dallas. Ellis was not happy about the switch, but he still produced very well as a 3-4 OLB. Yes Ellis is long-in-the-tooth. But any team that is looking for a 3rd down pass-rush specialist can get a very good one in Ellis at a good salary. Ellis will not be unemployed long though. If I were to hazard a guess I would say either Cincinatti (re-unites with his former D-Coordinator, Mike Zimmer) or more likely New England. The Patriots were talking to Jason Taylor before he signed in Miami and the Patriots are looking for a 3rd down pass-rush guy with 3-4 experience. I would guess NE, but would not be at all surprised to see him sign in Washington either. |

I don't know why this thread is still going. He's almost a carbon copy of Dainels and Wynn

His specialty is rushing the QB while Wynn and Daniels are primarily run stuffers. Not saying we need him and yes he is old like those two. |
Re: I think this might be our answer for OLB... (Greg Ellis?)
I'm just weary of signing 34 yr olds who can "rush the passer" (Jason Taylor). Don't get me wrong Ellis is a good player but if he doesn't accept a vet min deal from us then we didn't lose much.

Re: I think this might be our answer for OLB... (Greg Ellis?)
Ellis will probably sell his soul to the devil and play for N.E.

Re: I think this might be our answer for OLB... (Greg Ellis?)
Drop Wynn and bring in Ellis

Re: I think this might be our answer for OLB... (Greg Ellis?)
Greg Ellis was released by Cowboys, no trade needed- let the biddng begin.
i'm sure Vinny and Danny have him on the jet heading to DC. |
Drop Wynn and bring in Ellis
At first glance...this makes sense....but...the current situation is 3 pass rushing DEs and 2 run stuffers...if you do this you would change that mix to 4 to 1....and what happens if Daniels gets hurt again?...thats a problem. If the skins were to pursue this guy...it would be to cut a guy like Wilson...and I am not sure I am a fan of that. Is Ellis better than Wilson...oh yeah...but...for perhaps 2 years. If the Skins were to find a way to keep Wilson, Orapko, Daniels, Wynn, Carter and Ellis...then I'd say we have a damn fine DE set. I do not see Ellis as a viable starting OLB for us....nor do I see one currently on the roster. Pass rush is still a major need for us...one rookie doesn't change that...so, why not? On the other hand...we still need a starter at RT and OLB and we are running out of time....OLB can be hidden with a solid line....RT cannot. I hate the fact that he is a cowgirl...but I know his aunt so...he's ok I guess I am on the fence on this...but he aint our solution at OLB I would like to see 3rd and 20 with Wilson Orapko Ellis and Carter all at the same time....wow. |
Re: I think this might be our answer for OLB... (Greg Ellis?)
We have solid contributors at RT. Montgomery & Gholston my not be household names but they are solid contributors that can excell with a dominate LT next to them. No need to hide the position if they perform how they need to perform.

RT was referring to OT on the right side |

When in the hell was Wynn ever good at rushing the QB? I like Wynn but he is slow as a turtle bro. Daniels can at least anchor the line to stop the run. Right now all we have as an Edge Rusher is Andre Carter. Orakpo is at the SLB positon for now. I say if Greg Ellis asking price fits than lets see what he brings, may the best player make the open day roster. |
Re: I think this might be our answer for OLB... (Greg Ellis?)
Do we really need him at DE? Also why would he sign vet min here if he could do the same in NE? We need to throw some real bones at him to get him here.
|
Re: I think this might be our answer for OLB... (Greg Ellis?)
Is there actually talk of him going to NE? I hadn't heard that (been kind of out of the loop the past few days on NFL stuff). All I'd heard was Cincy

It was written somewhere that NE could be interested in him just like they were interested in Jason Taylor. Basically for the same reasons. |
