Brennan was our greatest quarterback from Hawaii in the Zorn era. He clearly deserves to put Peyton Manning on the bench. Y'all give him a break.

I'm secretly praying we take Bradford so we can finally dump "The Colt."

Re: Give Colt Brennan a shot with the 1st team offense in 2010

I don't think we even need Bradford or Clausen, Saden, to do that. If we get Lefevour, Brown, Kafka, Stull, Crompton, Snead, etc, I think Colt is doomed. I could see us also signing an undrafted QB also to be honest. There are over a dozen pro prospect college Qbs coming out in 2010, most from major conferences that faced tough opponents just about every week. Not all of them will be drafted, Some had bad combines like Canfield. I never heard how Joe Elliot's combine went either.

Pretty hard to "root" against Colt getting a change and having success. Evidently he's matured a great deal and working very hard. If he can breakout...fantastic.

I want Colt to do well. I rooted for him til it seemed like Chase Daniel showed more poise last season. If Colt can come through, more power to him.

I say we sign Chris Simms and let our QB's for '10 be JC, Colt, and Simms. Then next year we get Locker. Save our later picks from getting a QB and get more OLineman or players for the 3-4.

If you notice one thing about Colt Brennan, it is his accuracy. I remember watching a few games with Colt playing and the announcers would always mention how accurate he was. Also, if you don't remember Colt won in the QB challenge for accuracy against guys like Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco. I remember seeing a video on the redmond blog of colt throwing the ball at the field goal post and was hitting it everytime from a pretty long distance.

He obviously has the accuracy, confidence, and leadership skills. Just wonder if he is good at treading defenses and making quick decisions.

R&S QB's -the good ones anyways-are usually pretty good at reading defenses. They look at the defense pre and post snap and have to quickly decide which of the 5 defensive categories that it falls in--Cover 0,2,3 man off,Quarters-, this will tell the QB what the wr's are going to do. The R&S is not a free for all where each wr is running to get open like some like to think. Each play a wr can have anywhere from 1 to 3-4 different breaks on his assigned route depending on how the coverage changes, there are even secondary routes that the wrs will switch to when the QB pump fakes. imo all of this would be difficult with 2 wr's, let alone 4. Bottomline,Colt did well in this offense because he is very accurate, can read defenses very well and he can improvise. His 70% completions rate is impressive no matter who you play at any level. And ill say it again, he did in 3 yrs what Chang did in 5. Im pulling for the guy,id like to see him get a shot so we can see for sure what he can do. If he tanks then cut him and ill admit i was wrong but i think the kid can play.

I would like if he produced, i don't want us to spend our 4th on a QB would rather trade down/back pick up more picks and go OL, OL fill in rest.

Brennan is a goner. Grossman and now probably Bradford/Clausen only signals the inevitable. Kid was going to be Zorn's pet project. I guess Mike wants his own pet project.

I was really hoping to sign Bradford, and let Colt be #2, and eventually take over the starting job (since Campbell will likely lose the starting job), but then we sign Rex Grossman? Seriously? We got rid of Collins because of no upside (which I agreed with) then we sign Grossman, with less of an upside than Collins? HUH?
Johnson and Grossman are a couple of the dumbest signings this season...thankfully we aren't paying them much.

If you honestly have more faith in Brennan than Grossman at this point I want to know who signs your prescriptions.

Grossman does have more upside than Collins. Collins' career is trending down if it isn't over. Grossman is working for another opportunity.

Did Grossman screw up one of your fantasy teams or something? (He did that to one of mine)

LOL, no. It's not that I have more faith in Brennan over Grossman, it's that Grossman had his shot and did nothing to deserve another one. Colt has never had a shot and he deserves one. Like I said, I agreed with letting Collins go, but why sign a guy that has had his shot and didn't perform well in doing it?
Here is my problem, I can totally get on board with "rebuilding" and allowing a couple young guys (ie: colt and bradford for instance) duke it out when campbell fails, but I can not agree with going into this season with an inconsistant Campbell under center and the guy backing him up being a lot worse with no real upside unless you consider hope an upside. I'd rather pin my hopes on "potential" than just settling for a guy that isn't going anywhere.

I view this year as a transition year with potential. No one will argue that Campbell isn't inconsistent, but if he had a Pro-Bowl consideration type season next year would anyone really be shocked? I wouldn't, he was in the MVP consideration after we were 6-2.

As far as Grossman, I think he has potential too. Especially since he is going to be in the system that he was in last year. If he beat out Campbell, I wouldn't be surprised. In fact, it could be argued that Grossman actually has a leg up right now. Give them the benefit of the doubt, I guarantee Kyle S. had a lot to do with that signing.

I would much rather have Rex over Collins. Colt isn't out of the picture yet. He may have to beat someone out, but he will get a chance.

It would surprise me to see him the MVP race. A lot actually. Anyone can play well for a stretch, but for a whole season??? It's too hard to perform well all season long, only the really good can do that, and Campbell is not really good. Campbell would be a decent back up IMO.

I don't think Campbell will be in the MVP race. I was just saying that people were saying that a couple of years ago (Jaworski specifically). But I wouldn't be surprised if Campbell approached Pro-Bowl numbers, assuming the pieces fit together on the O-line.

You are right, if we sign Bradford (or Clausen) it would take a miracle or injury for Colt to make the team.

I was wondering if Shanahan normally keeps 3 QBs? It may already be over for Colt...

Nice post. Grossman can't be written off yet for a couple reasons. Chicago had exactly what great offensive weapons when Grossman was the starter? Let's be honest they won on their defense and then had a very amazing special teams unit. Grossman had an above average running game to rely on typically and very little talent to work w/ otherwise. He forced things way too often, and when you force things you see more turnovers. Certainly he's flat stunk in stretches, but let's not pretend like he had a lot to work w/ when he was on the field.

I hope it's not the case Shanny has already decided one way or another on Colt Brennan. Of the three QBs on the roster my intuition is he has the most upside...like he was quoted saying recently it's gonna take someone at this level giving him the kind of shot he got in Hawaii.

I was actually expecting to see Colt traded for a late round pick to a team like Denver,AZ or KC. Lets just see how the QB position plays out. I do not want to see the Skins go QB with the 4th. IMO this would be a huge mistake.

BlindReckoning 03-21-2010 10:50 AM

Re: Give Colt Brennan a shot with the 1st team offense in 2010

I for one think that Brennan will at least get a chance to prove himself one way or the other this year. I hope that Shanahan lets him play the game the way he has always played it. In this I mean don't worry about Brennan's mechanics. If he goes out in preseason and in practice and produces better than the others he is in. If not he's out. I think Brennan has more natural football instinct than Campbell. As far as side arm passers their have been some great ones. It may present problems sometimes with the taller lines but it's also good on the run.Which if we don't go with line early in the draft they will be during a lot of running. Brennan's release probably has Campbell's beat by about 10 secs (joke). Zorn was a likable interview guy period. He bought up (1) (decent) quarterback in his time. I thought he was far from the end all be all of quarterback knowledge. I wish he had of left Brennan alone. "Run these plays. Execute them the way you feel more comfortable". Again if you can't produce your out. Who knows what Brennan will do but he does have talent and moxie. He deserves a real (chance).
I love Campbell as a person. A real old school stand up type guy. Never runs his mouth. First one in last one out of practices. Just goes in to do his job no matter what happens. I can see why Gibbs drafted him. I was hoping so much he would do well. He is just not a great quarterback. And yes I have heard all the excuses for this. I think only having a "Hogg" type line or moving him to another team will ever determine if he's a decent quarterback. Does not have very good accuracy. Slow delivery. Questionable instincts. I had always heard he had a strong arm but I always saw him under throwing the long passes. Mark Rypien had accuracy problems at first but at least he overthrew the receivers by twenty yards. Less chance of interception. I guess I cant blame him too much on this but he was like a deer in head lights every time he dropped back. I wish him well but I still don't think he is a good long term answer.

Grossman has more upside than Collins. He is a gunslinger of sorts. Just not as talented as a Favre or Romo. He has upside because he can can put up some numbers (positive and negative). He comes from the Bears who's offensive schemes over the years have made all of their quarterbacks look bad. He might be a good stop gap. Collins was a system quarteback at best.

I know it's not a productive thing to say, but this thread is totally retarded. Colt will be lucky if he's even on the 53 man roster. Campbell isn't going anywhere, we just signed Grossman, and we'll probably draft a QB as well. All the Cult folks need to get over it.

Honestly if the Skins are dumb enough to waste the #4 on a QB then i would be glad to see Colt go elsewhere. It wont matter who is behind this -current-Oline. he will be running for his life or on his back most of the season. Bradford is the ONLY QB worth a high 10 pick imo and we all know he will be gone with the 1st pick more than likely.
