Re: Updated: Redskins to hold private workouts with Tebow and Bradford
Actually remember that either Colt or Grossman would be left out. It is a pretty dicey situation but worse comes to worse you could apply the tranistion tag to JC or find a veteran to bring in. The team is 2 or 3 years away from competing anyway but at the same time we have a heavy emphasis on the run so Tebow won't be left out in the cold. I think though that he will develop faster then people think but all of this could be moot. Personally Tebow reminds me of a shorter and more wholesome version of Big Ben.
Also remember that Flacco and Ben had pretty smooth transitions from the spread in college so while the spread offense is a deterent it's still not a deal breaker especially when it comes to early success.
Why is the team 2-3 years from competing? I think this is an inaccurate cliche when teams are "rebuilding". Between not having a kicker born with the Tony Romo gag reflex (2 wins) Shanahan (2-3 wins), a well exected draft, a couple more good FA signings and a couple of good bounces this team could win 9 or 10 games next year. If I had to bet, I would say 7-9 or 8-8 but 10-6 would not shock me. Miami went from 1-15 to the playoffs and Atlanta did a similar turnaround in the same year. Hell they started out 6-2 with a complete jackass running things. Anything could happen. With the way the league is set up (early draft picks for bad teams, bad teams getting easier schedules and now playoff teams are limited in FA) quick turnarounds are the norm as opposed to being the exception. |

Recent history, specifically the Steelers and Giants, would suggest that low seeds can win a championship (although if you look at both of those teams they were consistently making the playoffs before they had their miracle seasons). |
Re: Updated: Redskins to hold private workouts with Tebow and Bradford
The 09 Saints model is fairly obtainable this year, but we'd flip the units: it'd be the offense that would be rejuvenated by a philosophical improvement, and the defense that finds its place among the league's elite units.
I mean, we've been in the playoffs as recently as 2007. And no matter what, without a top 3 or 4 defense, super bowl contender is pretty unobtainable, especially in the current division. And I'm done picking these guys to be an elite unit. Even with a coaching improvement, they are average in my mind until proven otherwise. |

The top prospects for Notre Dame stood on their combine numbers as offensive tackle Sam Young, center Eric Olsen and wide receiver Golden Tate participated only in position drills. Paul Duncan, the team's third prospect on the offensive line, worked out for scouts and was impressive. Duncan measured 6-foot-6.5 and weighed 308 pounds. His 40 times ranged in the area of 5.17 seconds and Duncan pushed up 30 reps on the bench. He looked solid in position drills, displaying fluid hips and nice feet. As mentioned earlier quarterback, Jimmy Clausen was on hand to view the workout. Clausen was seen hanging around with a contingent of people from the Washington Redskins during most of the pro-day event.
You want us to pick Bradford, my god. There's never been a QB in the history of the draft built like him who actually has been slated to be drafted in the first round. At best, he defies all comparable. At worst, he has no business being a first rounder.
I don't think you have any idea that it costs more to go from No. 4 to No. 1 than it does to go from wherever we pick in the draft next year to No. 4. But this, unfortunately, is fact.
Not necessarily. If I remember correctly DS and Cerrato took a little trip. Rumor was Shanahan was interested in Bradford and they were scouting him. This came out while we still had some 4-5 games left in the regular season so honestly most of us I think kinda started looking at him seriously as our next possible QB. Then it seemed a lot of other teams fell in love with him. I think we simply have had more time to develope a man crush for him. I keep hearing how good Clausen is and how there is not much diffference in them. So if thats true then I'm ok with the team picking him also. After that all the QB's take a major plung. None are anywhere near these two. Most experts have the rest being picked either extremely late 1st round or 2nd round on. McCoy I've heard is second to Bradford with his accuracy his only problem is he doesn't have the arm strength for the long ball. I'd be ok with him also but I'm not sure if I'd take him at #4. So no I'm not against taking anyone else, but I can't see taking someone who is most likely no better then what we already have. There is really only two at the top of this list then there is the rest. I'd find a way to get one of the top ones and move on. I'm just pointing out though that if Bradford is the person Shanahan is truly interested in then get him. If he does not have a favorite then pick one of the top two. I also understand and believe we are not in the SB running for atleast 3-5 yrs. and can understand the thought process in regards to picking up a QB next year and still having time to develope them but I guarentee you we will in no way be in the top 5 next year in order to pick up a top ranked QB. Which means we most likely will have to give up more then what we have to this year to get who we want. According to peoples points structure. Atleast this years pick could be learning Shanahan's system for next year. |

I don't know where I read this story, but it was about Tim Tebow taking the wonderlic test, and right before the administrator passed out the tests, Tim announced to the whole room "Hey we should all bow our heads down and say a prayer" then another player in the back of the room said "Shut the Fuck Up" which lead to laughter throughout the whole room.
i just don't know with the current redskins we have now if they'll be mature or not if tebow were to ask them to pray; if they were to do the same thing as what the other guy said. |

Because they prayed harder! j/k If Tebow wants to pray I have no problem with that, but he can keep it to himself or get to know the individuals around him well enough to know whom he should invite to participate. I'm not religious myself but before every wrestling match our team did The Lord's Prayer, it was a unity thing and well, coach led it so I wasn't saying no. Anyways, Tebow's prayer didn't help him much on his Wonderlic. Maybe we'll see him on celebrity are you smarter than a 5th grader in the future. |

Re: Updated: Redskins to hold private workouts with Tebow and Bradford
??? What does that mean?
It points out that a majority of high-efficiency college quarterbacks who lack NFL build have tended to drop significantly in the draft (rightly or wrongly, I'm not passing judgment) to later rounds despite their awesome accomplishments on the field. High first round projections are usually given to those who fit one of three molds: pro style signal caller (Clausen fits this, as does Rivers, Rodgers, Campbell, Quinn, and Eli Manning), raw but toolzy underclassman with a high ceiling (Locker, if he had come out, or Sanchez, etc), or projectable gun with quick release/rocket arm (Stafford, Russell, maybe Roethlisberger).
Bradford comes from a completely different angle: supreme college production at a big time program. In the past, those players have tended to be downgraded to the second round or lower do to concerns about adaptability. If you wanted to disprove my point, I suppose citing Alex Smith would work as an example of someone who didn't fit neatly as a projectable player, but went at the top of the draft anyway, but I'm not sure that would alleviate concerns about franchise-ness. I've never said I thought Bradford will suck, but the "we have to trade up to get him" mentality is getting a little pervasive, and I needed to present a different way of looking at a player, who, when you take him, his college resume of a Heisman and a 67% completion percentage is all you are getting. In all fairness, all that matters is that his numbers translate well to the pro level. If they translate really well, he's not an overdraft no matter where he goes. But from a historical scouting standpoint, Bradford, without assuming intangibles we can't imply, has the build of a mid-to-late rounder. For every Romo or Garcia that comes out of the mold to make it, there's a Gradkowski, Frye, or Graham Harrell that doesn't really catch on. But the thing that they all had in common was that no one had to put much down investment on any of them, and could afford to cut bait with the guys who just couldn't play. It's a different way to look at the "we can't pass him up" mentality. How confident are you (Redskins fan, not necessarily SmootSmack) that his numbers will translate to the pro level, and how much money are you willing to bet that you are right? |

Re: Updated: Redskins to hold private workouts with Tebow and Bradford
The short version of the above is that Bradford, without his numbers and accolades at Oklahoma, has no value as a prospect. So you need to have a good reason to think you can take what he did in college, and adapt it to your system.
Clausen, on the other hand, if you build him a boat load of talent relative to opposing defenses, he's going to be quite successful regardless of system. That talent thing is easier said than done, obviously, but there's little projection that has to go into Clausen as a prospect. If things around him are bad, he'll struggle, and if things around him are good, he will perform. |

neither clausen or bradford is worthy of a top 5 pick. in an honest competition, i dont think either of them would beat out campbell, grossman, or pineapple jesus in practice.
