Re: 2010 NFL Off-Season Rumors and Reports (Week 3)
just looking at the teams that were in the afc and nfc championship teams over the past few years, it looks like most of those teams DIDN'T have a first round QB that the team drafted. atleast half got to that point with veteran QBs. this further makes me think that whomever we draft in the 1st round, should not be someone we take a gamble on. there are lots of ways to build successful franchises. you dont need to draft a top5 QB to be successful anymore than you need to draft a top5 left tackle or pass rusher. its all about making smart decisions in free agency, keeping your draft picks, and making wise use of the picks you have.

I would say that usually when it's the Redskins themselves that tell me "Big news today" it's usually something "big" like "Notre Dame to play at FedEx" or "Snyder sending food to Haiti and Chile" When it's actual big news, I hear it from elsewhere. I just hope Carter knows how to make good spaghetti
so you heard it from elsewhere |

No, heard from the Redskins to expect big news today. Like I said though, it could be the announcement of a charity event or something like that Also, checked this morning, been told that no trade to the Saints has happened. Wasn't told whether it could, might, would happen. Q: Did the Redskins trade Andre Carter to the Saints last night A: No Q: Are they talking? A: He's a Redskin |
Re: 2010 NFL Off-Season Rumors and Reports (Week 3)
I think there's something going on, something more than just some fluff news, but I don't know what it is

he just said expect big news out of redskins park friday for all I know it could be silver and blue tackling dummies coming from him |

Larry is the king of fluff news...he says he has a major announcement coming and then it usually ends up being something like the fields at Redskins Park being watered.
|
Re: 2010 NFL Off-Season Rumors and Reports (Week 3)
Interesting, hadn't heard that Michael said that. I never really listen to him anyway up here
Anyway, whatever I hear I will, of course, let you all know |

porter leaves with/without contract |

#Redskins confirm that Andre Carter still plays for them, and his Wiki page is corrected. Just what we need, to be chasing Wiki rumors.
Here is what makes me laugh on here at times folks are like the Browns suck, the Raiders suck, the Chief suck, etc... Guess what we suck too! Other NFL cities fans look at us as sucking.
It reminds me of my grandmother when I go to visit her in the old folks home she always whispers to me "bunch old people in here". Makes me want to scream you are old too!
yeah its a hard pill to swallow realizing we are what we are. a bottom 5 or 10 team the past 5 years/decade or so. i bust on carter for being a one trick pony, but dang, he had a nice season last year, made some plays on his own, switched back and forth from the left to right side when rak came in at DE. i dont know if i would trade him for a 3rd. i guess we have to though. good player, seems like a great personality in the locker room, takes being in shape and ready to play very seriously, his wife is a super educated sports fitness lady. it would suck losing a guy of that character. |
Re: 2010 NFL Off-Season Rumors and Reports (Week 3)
I would def trade him for a 3rd.. nothing against him, you just wonder how much longer he can perform and how so in this scheme..
pacman supposed to workout for a handful of teams |
Have you not noticed in the last ten years other then two playoff years we have sucked big time, I am not saying just those miss picks have made us suck but sure didn't help us get better.
Nothing like a nice dose of hyperbole.
Just looking at winning percentage since 2000, ours is 43.7%. A quick glance at Cleveland at 31% shows a big difference. Cleveland sucks. We're mediocre, sub-par, below average, but we don't "suck". Teams that "suck" don't make the playoffs twice in the last five years. We had a horrible season last year (it sucked), but IMO that was the best thing long term for the franchise. It spurred a much needed house cleaning and hopefully we're moving forward in the right direction. |

I think it's all about fulfilling your needs. I think sometimes it's easy to get caught up in, "WOW that guys fantastic!" Yes he might be an upgrade at his position, but does that position need to be upgraded as much as another? Is it a large upgrade that would make a difference in wins and losses? And do you ignore your greatest needs by taking this guy? Sometimes you're stuck and have to take BPA, but if at all possible, trade down and address your needs. When you have the same needs year after year, somethings wrong with the way you're drafting. |

Well said. Considering the depth of this draft and the number of needs this team has, i think our best option is to trade down and pick up as many picks in rounds 1 and 2 as possible. With multiple picks, we shouldn't have to reach to fill any of our actual needs. if we can't trade down, we need to make sure that whomever we select at 4 meets a need AND is close to being the BPA. |

Perhaps we rejected their overtures, in part, to increase Buffalo's interest in Clausen. With those picks, we could probably get: #9 - Dez Bryant, WR, Ok State #36 - Tim Tebow, QB, Florida #41 - Aaron Hernandez, TE, Florida Oh wait, i forgot Vinny's gone. With Mike Shanahan and Bruce Allen making the picks, we could end up with: #9 - Bryan Bulaga, OT, Iowa #36 - Jahvid Best, RB, California #41 - Jared Odrick, DT, PSU This would make me very, very happy. |

True, also in our case something was wrong w/decisions being made about drafts, i.e. trading picks that seriously hindered the team's ability to address needs. Pick by pick I think the skins have actually drafted fairly well in the danny era, it's just been a problem of burning picks for little return, see B Loyd, J. Taylor, TJ Duckett, even the Champ trade. |

and i'm also interested in knowing what this earth-shattering news is that Larry Michaels wants us all to be excited about. So far, i've heard nothing, so i'm assuming that nothing of import is happening or will be announced at Redskins park today.
