CB Deon Beasley (5-foot-9 5/8, 180 pounds) ran 4.47 and 4.46 in the 40-yard dash.

DT Lamarr Houston (6-2 7/8, 300) will keep his 40 times from the combine.

LB Sergio Kindle (6-2 7/8, 249) will keep his 40 times from the combine.

WR Jordan Shipley (5-11 1/2, 187) ran 4.54 and 4.56 in the 40.

G Charlie Tanner (6-3 7/8, 305) ran 5.20 and 5.12 in the 40.

S Earl Thomas (5-10 5/8, 202) is leaving school after his sophomore year, but coach Brown explained that Thomas is leaving early because his home in Orange, Texas, was devastated by Hurricane Rita in 2005, forcing his family to live in a hotel for a year. He ran one 40 in 4.37 seconds.

T Adam Ulatoski (6-6, 302) ran 4.58 and 4.56 in the 40.

LB Roddrick Muckelroy (6-1 5/8, 234) ran 4.73 and 4.75 in the 40.

Great Scott!! That's a fast 300 lb dude.

The point is well taken -- we've mentioned this before, but everyone's talking about Okung (5.18 40 time). BUT we play ZONE blocking schemes, where man-on-man size & strength is not as important.. As I understand it, there are more double teams and SPEED & communication is more important to get to your blocks..

So is Okung really a good fit to this offensive line anyway??

I'm always skeptical of pro day speeds on college campuses. I think it's Penn State that's notorious for having their players run the 40 on a sloped field.

Ulatoski ran something like a 5.5 at the combine

WR Jordan Shipley (5-11 1/2, 187) ran 4.54 and 4.56 in the 40. (Side note: When asked about Shipley’s performance, Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan said, tongue in cheek, “I don’t like him, because he’s doing everything here that I had hoped to do.” Shanahan played 24 games at Texas as a wide receiver.

G Charlie Tanner (6-3 7/8, 305) ran 5.20 and 5.12 in the 40.

Editor’s note: We reported earlier that Ulatoski’s 40-yard dash times were 4.58 and 4.56. However, those times were incorrect.

I keep on getting the feeling that McCoy won't be around when we pick in the second round. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if the Browns either traded back into the first (deja vu anyone?) or used the layoff from day 1 to day 2 to trade with someone in front of us. Very interested though in finding how McCoy would hypothetically fit into a Shanahan system. It seems that he prefers strong armed QB's that can be groomed and in that respect I think Tebow fits the profile better. Then again I thought that Shanahan would never sign a lineman weighing more then 315.

At the same time McCoy has great intangibles, though they seem to be overshadowed by the fact that Tebow is in this draft. Any other year though he would easily be the highest rated QB in terms of intangibles.

I dunno. Kyle was able to make it work with Schaub, who didn't really have a rocket arm. Colt's mobility will help him though, especially if Mike wants some of his offense installed.

Schuab still has a strong arm. McCoy on the other hand seems average at best in terms of arm strength but then again thats just me. Like I've said before, I'm obviously not a scout.

Does anybody realistically expect Okung to fall to us? Both Detroit and Tampa need youth at LT and he's the best in the draft. And at 306 lbs he moves very well and shows the ability to play in just about any scheme (though it sounds like he'll be best suited for zone-blocking).

Tampa is in the same boat as St. Louis in that they've spent a lot of early picks on their line, or in Tampa's case the O-Line. Trueblood and Penn are one of the better pair of bookends in the league. They also have Davin Joesph, Jeff Faine, and Jeremy Zutah on the interior. If anything what they really seem to want now is a difference maker on the D-Line. Someone that can bring the same sort of level of play to the defense that Warren Sapp brought for all those years.

Detroit on the other hand as far as Tackle is concerned has a reliable type in Jeff Backus and a recent first round pick invested in Gosder Cherillus. They also have a head coach in Swartz who saw first hand what a guy like Albert Haynesworth can do for a defense. Of course maybe they want better protection for Stafford but it's certainly possible that they could pass on Okung. On the other hand I don't see Tampa really considering him at all.

Tampa definitely will take a DT, or trade down, but there is no way they leave this draft without a stud DT. Detroit does have a need to get younger, but not a dire need. Their LT has started every game for 9 years, and is still serviceable. What they NEED is interior linemen. And there will be very good ones in the 2nd round. But there won't be a stud DT like Suh or McCoy, and Schwartz knows what a stud DT can do in his system. The Most likely way for Okung to be gone is if the Rams don't take Bradford, in which case a spot opens up for some strange things and maybe Okung and Bradford disappear. As it stands now the top 4 picks in order will most probably be
Bradford
McCoy (or Suh, but McCoy is has been more consistent so I think he goes here)
Suh
Okung

I think the time lag between the combine and draft just makes the talking heads have to fill up space with all the various combinations, but Detroit and Tampa both need and understand the need for an impact player at DT.

Dirtbag and CRedskins thanks for the input. You guys are totally right on Tampa, the consensus is their FO is thrilled to have a shot at Suh or McCoy or possibly a choice between the two. Detroit is harder to read. Stafford took quite a beating last year no? If interior lineman were the real problem they could look to stick Okung at LT and shift things around a bit. The Schwarts factor is def something to consider though.

...I feel better knowing we could get Okung.

True but those other blokes aren't great value at 4...now if we traded down, still got one of em, and another 1st rd pick it would be worth it.

How likely is it Shanny/Allen reverse our trend and start stockpiling future picks in a tradedown scenario? I wouldn't mind it personally...we are truly in rebuild mode our of necessity.

That's exactly the fear with Detroit, they could easily take Okung, move Backus to G and shore up that side of the line. There was a report that they were looking at an RFA G, I think from Seattle?, and if they did that I doubt they would also spend their first pick on the OL. All that said, I really believe that Schwartz wanted and got Van De Bosch(sp?) DE from Tennessee because they intend on getting a monster in the middle and he wants to re-create the Tennessee DLine. Remember he was at the DE's house AT midnight, so he wants his Dline functioning right.

This FO is so hard to read, I would be happy with a trade with SF, it's got to be plausible, but I don't know what player SF would covet at 4 to make it worth their while. As for Campbell at 4, that would be a huge over reach, and almost definitely a Heyward Bey type miscalculation. I think Trent Williams might be worth it at 4, but if Okung, and Bradford are both gone, our FO ought to be dealing that 4th pick for whoever wants the remaining DT, or take the DT ourselves, and reshuffle.

Well put, I agree on all points CRedskinsRule. Especially on not over reaching @#4, if Bradford, and Okung are gone with no trade partner, I wouldn't be opposed to taking one of the stud DT's.
