Re: Flozell Adams at right tackle?
Definitely not Flozell at LT, i can see RT, but not LT. Here is one possibility. Trade down with san fran for both of their 1st rounders for our 1st and 4th rounder, then, we use the 13th pick for Bulaga or Anthony Davis of Rutgers, or the USC LT Brown, and trade the 17 for marshall, strait up.
Could that work? If Suh drops, or Okung is there, would San Fran be interested in either of those guys? That would be a daggon good draft for us. Then, if we can scratch out a 2nd or 3rd for Campbell and some others, and go G or BPA, this could be one of the best offseasons ever for the skins. I just keep envisioning this tho. Carter Haynesworth Suh Orakpo Best D Line in NFL History right off the bat. Ridiculous.
Best D line in history?! It would be pretty damn good but what about the Fearsome Foursome or Purple People Eaters? And those are just two off the top of my head. Couldn't you argue that the Manley, Butz, and Mann lines were right up there with that group? |
Re: Flozell Adams at right tackle?
I could care less about him being a former cowboy. He is a liability with penalties and we need to seriously address the o-line and stop trying to put a patchwork together.
I don't know how they can fix the line this year without some FA patchwork. We only have 4 picks at the moment and it would be fairly presumptuous to assume we are going to find a starter with a 4th rounder or later. Okung better be able to start if we take him 4th. |
Re: Flozell Adams at right tackle?
To Schneed10 & MattyK, I understand that it's business & I know w/McNabb in at QB we have a former rival as our leader. I'm not a fan of that move btw, and I'm definitely not for signing Adams.
The guys that make these decisions are of course paid to put a winner on the field & they must be objective to the greatest extent they can be. But I'm just a fan & I grew up watching my team's players get old in the same uniform. Times have changed, I accept that, but it doesn't mean I have to like the idea of a dude like Flozell, a true cowboy, playing here. From a more objective stance; Flozell's best days are behind him. I think he was one tough LT for a long time, probably still is. But his decline might be pretty sharp this year. The fact that he was a life long cowboy will make us all the more furious if he comes here, false starts in crucial situations & gets beat regularly. I know I hated having my team coached by Norvelle w/Alvin Harper & J. washington (only good for his name) on the field. Not to mention Deion, although he played well here, just wasn't a game breaker any more. Even go back to calvin hill, we never get ex cowboys that pan out in b&g. If Flozell comes here, we'll all still hate him in the end. |

Re: Flozell Adams at right tackle?
To all who are Gaither fans, I found this in an article on the SFChronicle. Maybe this is why teams are not jumping on a trade for him
Here's a teaser: The draft is really the only place to land a tackle. Yes, another former Terp Jared Gaither is reportedly available for a second-round choice from the Ravens. But the word around the league is that the mammoth Gaither (6-9, 340) doesn't love the game, rarely works out, and wouldn't fit into a Mike Singletary-coached team. So, out the window goes the Gaither idea if that proves true. And If i recall, there were some on the Ravens staff questioning his work ethic as well. At the end of the day, if he was a fiery talented competitor that was passionate about playing, and had nothing but upside, I dont care who else they have on their roster. They wouldn't be shopping the guy. We should know he is not in their long term plans for a reason, and that is a HUGE red flag, literally. Hopefully, our coaches have seen this, and that is why there are no real reports of interest. Hopefully. |

Re: Flozell Adams at right tackle?
Just a one year deal for Flozell. No problem with that. Would prefer to keep Levi Jones and draft an OT.

Even if Okung makes it to us, we draft him and he is our best tackle going into the season, I still think we need a veteran left tackle on the roster. We at least need a veteran for RT even if we draft another tackle with 4th or later. I would not feel comfortable with two rookie tackles on opening day. |

He may be good enough to fill in for multiple games but he cannot be counted on to start and finish a season. If you went into the playoffs with him you better be able to leave your left tackle on an island because you are going to have to give Heyer help consistently if you expect to have a chance to beat any good team. |

Regardless of which one starts it would be nice to have Flozell just hanging around the bench JUST IN CASE. Plus there is always the possibility that Shanny may pick up another vet during the cuts coming up later this year. That is probably REAL likely. Then again maybe we draft 3 offensive linemen during those 3 days. |
Re: Flozell Adams at right tackle?
let's wait on Flozell, he will be there. If not, it's not the biggest loss. I am gonna sound like an old tune after a while, but there are probably 6 LT's being taken in this draft, one or two teams will release suitable RT candidates, and we can look at them, along with Levi Jones if he wants to play, and still let Heyer compete for the backup spots. Our line, while awful right now, has a good chance of looking decent by training camp, and if Bruce Allen does his job correctly, we will have plenty of bodies in house to compete, without bringing in an ex-cowboy who also happens to be the 2nd most penalized tackle, and a fairly dirty player (in the bad sense of the word).

Re: Flozell Adams at right tackle?
I dont know man, I want us to get this tackle situation squared away asap also, but Ive seen that dude have more then a few HORRIBLE games. Itz only April, we still have a lot of time, we dont have to get Flozell Adams. He is not completely garbage, he is just ok. I think we can do better then him. Not to mention he's a cowboy. If we pick up any cowboys, they better be dam good or have some upside.
I say let Shanahan work his magic, he's suppose to have a good eye for oline talent. |
Re: Flozell Adams at right tackle?
the longer we wait the longer he has to entertain other deals...I wish we would get something done! He'd be a great hog on the line for sure.

please don't even try to compare a player like flozell, who is very penalized and dirty, to the hogs, I don't know a better class of OLmen then them and Chris Samuels was a Great Hog on a mediocre line, Flozell would be more like a runt sent to an early death... |

You bring up an outstanding point that I didn't think about. However, being a cap free year...lets sign EVERY free agent OT out there, then just release them as we upgrade....screw the signon bonus part....we can really score if you are willing to give that strategy a shot. |

haha, very true...but he'd be better than a hoggette! I still think Heyer is a mini hog...he'd be a good guy to have as a backup though...just don't see him as a long term RT in this league. |
