Re: Did Mcnabb open the door for TO?
Well today while at lunch on ESPN (I think) this was one of the topics. I was with a customer so all I got was the headline "McNabb Making A Push For TO". Then they kept showing highlights of McNabb and TO yelling at each other on the side lines.

Re: Did Mcnabb open the door for TO?
TO would be a big mistake. He's not good enough anymore to justify the circus he brings along with him. And I would hope that roster sugestions to Allen & Shanny from McNabb or any other player for that matter go in one ear and out the other. The inmates no longer run the asylum here...

Re: Did Mcnabb open the door for TO?
If DM is lobbying for TO it dosen't look good for our WR's IMO. I just remember MS saying he was upset with certain players in mini-camp i'm just wondering was WR's apart of that.

Well if McNabb and T.O can do what they did on the field in philly im all for it. But then again if DM did make this request it makes you think he is NOT very impressed with the skins current wr corps.

I've seen this kind of talk alot but, it's not nessesarally true. Bringing T.O. on the field opens up all kinds of great scenarios for our other receivers. A double team on T.O. = open receivers for starters. How do you think Jason Witten got open so often. On the field T.O. gives it 110% Our receivers would be lucky to have him here and would learn from the best in the game. As far as MS not being impressed with our current WR's because of his possible interest in T.O. I don't think one has to do with the other at all. |

Argh, ESPN...embedding gets you exposure... Anyways, I can't agree with some of what was said in that video. Our WR position is not "dire" and "desperate". Moss and Thomas are solid and should be used very well in Shanahan's offense. Kelly and Mitchell have upside and are serviceable #3 and #4 WRs in an offense that also has two of the better receiving TEs in the league and a running game that McNabb didn't have in Philly. If we were talking about this WR corp with McNabb on the Eagles, sure it would need upgrading because they had no running game and TE was usually a revolving door. McNabb has plenty to work with right now. Concerning bringing in Porter, Hagans, Williams...we always invite a ton of WRs and sign them...every year, just to get competition in camp. We had well over 100 players last year if I remember correctly. Also, it's probably not different than what other teams do, bring in a ton of players to work out that won't likely make the team. Signing some scrub WRs right now says nothing about our "desperation" or anything about our current WR corps...it's just how things are done. Yes Owens could be an asset to the team but if we needed him so desperately, we would have already signed him. We'll be fine without him. In fact, Kelly and Mitchell would probably be better off without another WR in front of them on the depth chart. We need to develop them and see what they can do, especially Kelly. If he's traded and Owens is added, so be it. We'll be fine at WR either way I believe. Our big problem in the passing game will be involving both Cooley and Davis to utilize their talents enough. |

For what it's worth Shanny said on ESPN2 we arent looking in that direction even if he understands why Donovan or TO might want to be reunited.

We could have had TO at the recent minicamp, when we hosted 3 other WR's. We didn't. I think Shanny is telling the truth on this one. |

The only plausible argument that our receivers aren't as bad as people think is the quarterback dilemma. Maybe now we have a QB that can find the open guys or hit them in tight spaces. Otherwise, the wide receivers we've seen in Redskin uniforms have been just about like the rest of the team -- mediocre. I would hardly call Devin Thomas "solid". We just don't know that yet. We've seen flashes. Brief, rare, inconsistent flashes. That's it. Even less so with Malcolm Kelly and Marko Mitchell. Only in the most wildly optimistic scenario can they be defined as "serviceable." Santana Moss? He was really good five years ago. But fans seem to think he's exactly the same today as he was in 2005. Uh-huh. I haven't seen it. I'd put the receiver situation second only to the offensive line in terms of what needs to be seriously scrutinized. |

Honestly based on other trades.. you gotta package the guy.. otherwise he's worth what.. a 7th? I say we keep him.. he's still got this year and next on the contract.. and that's without knowing what'll go on with a new CBA or whatever |

Re: Did Mcnabb open the door for TO?
It's very disconcerting that they are unhappy with the receivers, considering the high draft picks used. Have to assume that it is Kelly who is not making the grade. I don't think they can use one of their very few draft picks on a WR this year. So they would have to sign some UDFAs, and another name FA, like Owens.
If McNabb and the Shans are ok with T.O., then I am to. |
Re: Did Mcnabb open the door for TO?
I am not surprised. What have the guys done? We currently have an old guy, two young guys (one who shows promise and one who hasn' showed much at all) a seventh round guy who looked great against the scrubs in preseason and barely made a catch in the season. So it really is not surprising to see the new sheriff wants a playmaker.
|
Re: Did Mcnabb open the door for TO?
This is why I wanted Brandon Marshal, because we don't have a true number one wide reciever.
|
Re: Did Mcnabb open the door for TO?
Yes, having Marshall here would have been great, but the team had nothing to bargain with. They have no 2nd or 3rd this year, and no 3rd next year. They had no realistic way to get Brandon. What surprised me was that they didn't make a play for Kevin Walter. He knows Kyle's system, and would have been an excellent possession receiver.
Maybe they thought Kelly would step-up, but once mini-camp started, it became obvious that he doesn't have it. I am assuming that Kelly is the weakest link, but maybe Santana has lost an extra step. Either way, I don't expect Moss on the team next year. |
Re: Did Mcnabb open the door for TO?
Next year we'll be in position to draft one of the top receivers if that's our focus. Would be great if we could get a Percy Harvin, Jeremy Maclin, or similar.

Seriously though, good guy. Really polite and outgoing. I didn't get to meet him myself but heard he was great....and all the ladies wanted to be with him.
LOL. Yeah I met Riley when he was a freshman at UF (the last football season I lived in Gainesville). There was no shortage of ridiculously hot women at UF, and he could pretty much have his pick of any one of them. The punter at the time (Eric Wilbur), his girlfriend worked for me at our sports bar, and Riley came in there a few times with Eric. Seemed like a good dude from what limited interaction I had with him. On a side note, I think he's a big time sleeper as far as WR's go. He's fast, definitely has the size (6-3, around 215), very strong hands, and blocks pretty well too. I believe he ran in the low 4-4's at the combine. He'd be a steal in the 4th round. I have no idea where he's projected though. |
Re: Did Mcnabb open the door for TO?
Riley is projected to go in the 4th round, maybe late 3rd.
I would not be surprised if Shanahan drafted Mike Williams, troubled receiver from Syracuse, in the 7th round. Shan is known to take gambles on skill players. It's hard for me to envision them going Wr in this draft, except the 7th round, and only if a talented guy is there. I don't see how they get out of this draft without getting 2 O-linemen, a ILB, and possibly a Safety. They really don't have a Return guy yet, that needs to be addressed as well. |
