So Josh Howard is coming back, if he can recover from his knee injury he should make a solid small forward for the one year we've signed him for
Bargin....Had he not tore up his knee he had a $11.5 mil option, no way the team was going to pick that up. |
Re: Washington Wizards 2010-2011 Ongoing Thread
McGee is back on Team USA. Chances are good he'll actually make the final roster since he's one of only two centers on the prelim roster right now. This can only be good for the guy and the 'Zards. Especially if he eats up his role as a defender and rebounder. He could be a Mutumbo type center if he did that. Plus his athleticism up and down the floor is basically unique for a guy his size.

McGee is raw yet, but if he continues to work hard and the Wizards exhibit a little patience with him, he could eventually be a force to deal with. He has tremendous athleticism, all he needs is to cotinue to play and gain that needed experience. |

Not the Wizards, but OKC's Kristic could be in a lot of trouble for this.

Gilbert has become a major source of pain...who is worse, Albert or Gilbert? I knew we shouldnt have signed him to the max deal...but the way he is acting this year after all the bs last year is insane. He is going to be a continuing issue. What kind of realistic trade value do you think Agent 0 has?
I say keep em. He's a great player i think he would be better fitted playing the 2guard as he's a natural drive and score type player as john wall is pass first. Also Arenas is defensively inclined Flip likes players like these i see the wiz doing pretty nicely next year .. |

He's untradeable right now,and will be until he shows he still has game. I prefer to keep him around for a year or two. This year will be exciting to watch, but we won't be great. |

Skill-wise, he's a very valuable player to a team as long as he's behaving. However, his MASSIVE contract makes him tough to move...or retain. Tough situation, he's been overpaid for his contributions, but at the time, he had deserved it. Now that he's not playing up to his contract, no other team would want that payroll damage. Sounds familiar in D.C. |
Re: Washington Wizards 2010-2011 Ongoing Thread
Man, I think he needs a fresh start more than ever. After hearing about how the Pacers players felt in their locker rooms after the Pistons-Pacers fight, it's important that he gets a fresh start. It won't ever be the same here. I hope he ups his value this season because I don't think it'll ever be the same between him and the team/fans/management again.

Re: Washington Wizards 2010-2011 Ongoing Thread
I really want Gil to play at a high level before the trade deadline. Get max value for him... like mooby said, it will be better for both parties- Gil's probably not feeling too loyal after the Wiz removed his image after the incident and the Wiz don't want any kind of "quirky" influence on Wall. I like Hinrich's ability to mentor, as he did with Rose.

Re: Washington Wizards 2010-2011 Ongoing Thread
Wizards Defense is effing horrible.....as usual. I've never seen a team give up so many uncontested shots. John Wall needs to shoot the open jumper. The Magic are daring him to.

This Wizards team will be pretty lucky to get to 30 wins this year. My expectations are in check. It's such a young team, it seems like Grunfeld is building with the expectation of a work stoppage next year and a new league economic climate in 2012.

I was actually kind of worried that they would be mediocre and end up with a practically useless mid first round pick, but after seeing this they'll probably be back in the lottery giving them a chance to continue following the Oklahoma City model. Of course we have to remember that the Magic are a championship contender. |

Re: Washington Wizards 2010-2011 Ongoing Thread
Only five more rebounds than Orlando assists... our trouble is going to be on the glass this year. I'd like to see more three guard sets when Gil gets back, with Hinrich at the 3.

Re: Washington Wizards 2010-2011 Ongoing Thread
Boy we need to be tougher around the rim, I can't remember the last time I saw so many uncontested layups. And they had a great strategy forcing Wall to take the uncontested jumper, because that was definitely a weak point. He's gotta continue to work on that to be effective because more teams will play him like that now.
My hype disappeared pretty quickly against the Magic tonight. Their defense did a great job of forcing lower percentage shots and the Wiz didn't convert many opportunities and could barely get an offensive rebound to save their life. |
Re: Washington Wizards 2010-2011 Ongoing Thread
Well, it was the Magic so I'm not going to get all bent out of shape. I'm tired of Blatche though, I don't know why he keeps on insisting of floating outside the low post and taking these ridiculous shots that lead to easy rebounds and fast breaks for the Magic.

Now it was only one game, and the Magic play excellent defense. You combine that with our porous defense in the paint (50 in the paint? GD 'Zards) and how many excellent 3 point shooters they have and we could've seen it coming. They have the most suffocating defense I've seen in a while. |

They're good but we don't have much this year. It was bad. Bad. It wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if we got another #1 pick. |

I think our ceiling is in the 32-35 win range. Worst case scenario our win total could be as bad as 15-20. Just my opinion. I like some of the young pieces on this team, but overall we're gonna suck pretty badly. |
Re: Washington Wizards 2010-2011 Ongoing Thread
Let's see how they play when Gil and Josh Howard get back. We're a little shorthanded right now, I'm pretty sure the non-Wall starting lineup from last night (Hinrich, Thornton, Blache and McGee) doesn't scare anybody.
|
Re: Washington Wizards 2010-2011 Ongoing Thread
from parts of the game i saw, defense and hustle were non-existent. John Wall rightfully said before the game that in order for this team to stay competitve, they must take care of the things they can control like hustle and energy to make up for the things they cant control like lack of overall skill, etc.
they need a michael ruffin type to come in, show them what hard work, proper positioning and scrappiness looks like. im going to try and follow them some this year, i find young down-right bad teams like this interesting in the sense of how the coach and team game plan. |
Re: Washington Wizards 2010-2011 Ongoing Thread
Anybody watch the 'Zards home opener tonight? Wall was crazy, 29 points, 13 assists, and 9 steals. Not only was he one steal away from a triple double, he tied the franchise record with 9 steals, and also tied an NBA record with 31 assists in his first 3 games. And I haven't even mentioned the best part yet, we came back in overtime to beat the 76ers! It was so back and forth for a while I thought if the Wizards didn't make a stop sooner or later they'd lose the game, but they stopped the 76ers on their last offensive possession to win by 1. And Cartier Martin had the clutch 3 at the end of regulation to tie the game. Definitely exciting and it was nice to see this young team step up,especially when the 76ers were bringing the Heat (Lou Williams was on fire in the 4th) and get the win.

Most impressive about Wall? When told of his 9 steals, his first comment was "Yeah, but I had 8 turnovers." The kid just gets it. |
Re: Washington Wizards 2010-2011 Ongoing Thread
Yeah and a couple of them came at a crucial time too, but he tore it up, definitely kept us in the game.

Re: Washington Wizards 2010-2011 Ongoing Thread
sheet, i missed the game. wall brought alot of energy and intensity when he was with UK. seems like the kid LOVES bball. im so happy the wizards got him, im just happy therre was legit no 1 overall talent for them to draft.
who does wall compare to? i always think d wade with less power at the rim but more defense. |

Man, I totally forgot to mention that. I love that he already has his head on his shoulders. It says so much that that was the first thing on his mind after the game. I'm so glad we got this kid. @Buster: Did you read Steinberg's post on what Colin Cowherd had to say about Wall doing the Dougie when his introduction came up? I know he says it just to get us riled up but it's so annoying. |

I like alot of what CC sais, but you can tell he just goes w/ an opinion, almost w/out thinking it out. Then he goes on and on and on. He's not Nostradomus, he's just a sports guy w/ an opinion. No biggie. As the article mentions, his facts are wrong. You can't compare a rookie to a 4th year guy anyways. I watched it live (at home), and I was thinking WTF is he doing, but then I just started laughing. Again, no biggie, I doubt he'll do it every night. |

As Steinberg proved, Cowherd is completely wrong with his opinion of Wall, but I feel like this time is one of those times when he's just saying it to get everybody riled up. Because if he didn't that'd be pretty lazy of him to just jump to a conclusion like that without checking the facts first. I would think if he was going to say what he said about Wall he'd definitely check his facts first, and then go ahead with it. And pretty much everybody agrees you can't compare Rondo to Wall. Wall's 3 games in his NBA career, Rondo is in his 4th year. I'll wait until Wall's in his 4th year before I look back at his career vs. Rondo's in a "1st four seasons side by side comparison" standpoint. |
