Re: On the radar: Skins WR's
^Yeah, I figure that they think Thomas is a player meaning that he shows up for games and may not be the best at practice but is dependable on Sundays.
That little 41 yard touchdown in his recent game film won't hurt his cause either but at this point, I would be surprised if Kelly wasn't cut. |
When do we get another first round draft pick?
next draft. I don't understand your question tho. We have our 1st and 2nd for next year, AND next years class is likely going to be thinner because many more juniors than usual came out last draft - I dont have stats on that but it was what was being said this year. As for jamaal we got him basically for dropping two rounds in the draft, that's not a high cost. As for the WRs. It seems like if kelly is a bust, thomas is avg and davis turns out to be a stud then that 2nd rd wasn't to bad a draft actually |

Even Bill Polian says that the best talent evaluators hit on about 50% of draft picks. The scenario you describe is right at 50% - normal. |

I think we could all as skins fans live with a stud TE and an average posession receiver out of 3 second round picks. More than some teams get. Id just like that average receiver to start being at least average this season though. :D |

Agreed. DT has shown some real flash to be more than average, he really just needs to get it together on a more consistent basis. I like Smoot, think he can be special. This could be the year he gets it together. ALSO like C, I would say that getting a stud TE and one of the 2 recievers to pan out would be a win for us, and consistent with the league average. |
Re: On the radar: Skins WR's
Armstrong is the main one right now preseason wise. he is snatching them balls not letting tip of his hands or head.
|
Re: On the radar: Skins WR's
Yes, I think he could be our new #3, with Moss and Williams pulling the 1 and 2.

What has Williams done to even be in the conversation. Galloway and Moss will start the season as the starters. in 3 receiver sets, Moss will slide into the slot and Armstrong will come in as the other wide out. By week 3 at the latest, i expect to see Thomas replace Galloway as the #2 guy in 2WR sets. |

At least Williams has somewhat of a body of work to look at, Thomas has a preseason TD and low expectations that he can't even meet. Plus, he is dropping passes left and right. I think he will struggle to be the #4, or maybe even the team the way he is operating. |

When I posted it in May it got immediate push back, but now its very possible. I dont think either player has seriously impressed since I made that comment. |
Re: On the radar: Skins WR's
If Kelly makes the team without even practicing, I can't see how DT doesn't make it.
|
Re: On the radar: Skins WR's
I tend to agree with BHA. I can see Galloway opening up as the #2. I'm not even sure I see Williams making the team.
|
Re: On the radar: Skins WR's
Roydell won't make the team.
Kelly MIGHT because of his physical stats and "potential", but I'm not sure Shanahan is going to give any free passes. Moss, Galloway, Thomas, Armstrong are LOCKS. Banks is likely. Kelly and Austin are possibilities for the final spot. I don't see Wade or Williams making it. |
Re: On the radar: Skins WR's
Galloway has only two things going for him, the veteran respect of his peers and the support of Bruce Allen. That may just be enough, but other than that he hasn't done anything this preseason to merit being a starter on this team.
|
Re: On the radar: Skins WR's
He really hasn't been given many opportunities in the preseason games...but at his age, it's a feat to stay healthy through camp.
He'll be a decent depth WR for us. Moss and Thomas will be the clear #1 and #2...with Armstrong coming on strong to challenge them. Galloway will be a possession guy like James Thrash...nowhere to be seen most of the time but will come up with big catches when needed. |

each day that VJ doesn't report SD will be more willing to deal him
It appears that any Seattle deal for VJ has fallen through...at least for now. |

To your point....what has Galloway done to be the #2? I don't even think he's had a single catch in 2 games. At least Williams has made some catches. The real question is who is going to be #2? Armstrong? DT? The way I see it...Galloway has done nothing at this point and arguably may not even make the squad. He is just taking critical practice time away from any long term #2 such as DT or maybe even armstrong. Being undecided at game 3 in preseason with a new QB, new WR, new scheme is definately going to affect timing and may hurt in the first few regular season games |

Yeah, he's asking for $30 million guaranteed reportedly plus it will cost us at least a 2nd round pick.. I'm for upgrades but that's a lot of dough and capital (pick) for a guy with 2 strikes in the NFL substance abuse policy and a history of immaturity. |

This is an excellent point, and anyone who is salivating for this guy to come to DC obviously has not learned from the AH gaffe. |

Yep those are the 2 points that make me leary of making a trade for the guy. Yes he can help our team and maybe give us enough for a good shot at the NFC east this year, but how much will it really hinder the Redskins in the future? To much money involved to sign him and to high of a pick to give up to get him. One more slip up and he misses 8 games next suspension after that then a whole season. Way to much money involved for that slim margin of error or a brief slip up in lack of judgement by VJ to risk. He is a damn good player but he has to much baggage that he would bring along, I was all for it in the beginning but not now. This is another deal that could very easily blow up in the Redskins face if the executed it, and I for one do not feel that BA would make this move. We are already have enough character issue guys and one big fat malcontent. |

Based on performance, Armstrong is the second best receiver in camp. Thomas has been hot and cold but that's good enough to be #3. Banks is too small but might make the team as a returner. We may be looking at the new smurfs with Moss, Armstrong and Banks. Williams has dropped too many passed. Austin hasn't shown me much. Kelly has not even practice and you know, if you don't practice, you don't play for Shanahan;) |

I agree... and with that being said, I dont think a 38 year old wide receiver who doesnt have a height advantage and doesnt play special teams has any place on the team at all if he isnt a starter. Now, I think he he'll probably make the team... but he shouldnt. If we rolled with only 5 WRs, i'd rather have Moss, Thomas, Armstrong, Kelly, and Banks/Austin. If we cut Galloway today, he'd still be available if one of our WRs suffered some sort of season ending injury. |

Do you have any idea why we aren't pursuing VJ, especially now that we know he can be had for only a 2nd rounder? Next years draft is going to be crappy, so i cant imagine we're valuing that pick a ton. |

Armstrong is the only WR getting real seperation, I don't know who looks best in practice, but I know who's getting it done in the games. |

Idk about VJ the guy would be out 6 games. Hell we need him week 1! Outside of STL our other games are very difficult

I believe he'd "only" miss the first 3 games if he signs a tender with some team before Sept. 4 I'm not sure he's high on our radar at the moment |

I would think the hang up would be the monster contract he would demand and the character issues. |
Re: On the radar: Skins WR's
Some think Bucs could provide next home for Haynesworth
Posted by Mike Florio on August 24, 2010 11:37 AM ET We've been saying for the past few days that the Redskins likely are hoping that a 4-3 defensive tackle on another team tears an ACL in the near future, giving someone a need for Albert Haynesworth -- and the motivation to give up something more than a low-round pick for him. Barring a season-ending injury to Kevin Williams or Tommie Harris, the Redskins could ultimately find a face-saving path out of the Haynesworth morass via the Buccaneers. Appearing on a local radio station, Roy Cummings of the Tampa Tribune suggested Monday night that the a trade to the Bucs isn't as crazy as it sounds. "It makes a great deal of sense and here's why," Cummings said, via JoeBucsFan.com. "Don't forget, the Buccaneers were the team that offered Albert Haynesworth more money than anybody else in the NFL last year. A lot of people forget that -- conveniently want to ignore that fact. . . . 'You know what, I think it makes all kinds of sense," Cummings said, seemingly warming up to the idea on the fly. "It's a ballsy move. I don't know if he's going to do it. They do want to be young here more than anything. But you know what, if Stylez White can't wake up in these last two preseason games and show them what he's got, why not? Go give it a shot. I mean, money really is not an issue. People don't want to believe that here. Everybody, you know, on your end of things here in Tampa Bay wants to keep talking about money here and money there and how much the Glazers are or are not spending. I can tell you right now, if they think can get Albert Haynesworth, and it ends up becoming a wash in terms of what the payroll is, they'll do it. And they'll go out and get him. And you know what, he'll make the team a better football team in a hurry." The only surprise in Cumming's comments comes from the disclosure (which was made in the question posed to Cummings) that Haynesworth actually wants to play defensive end in a 4-3 scheme. Maybe we haven't been paying attention as closely as we should, but we think he wants to play defensive tackle in a 4-3. If he's interested in being a defensive end in a 4-3 alignment, he'd be lobbying for some snaps at the equivalent position in the 3-4 -- outside linebacker. Regardless of whether he'd play outside or bolster the rookie-heaving rotation on the inside in Tampa, Haynesworth makes sense from an Xs and Os standpoint. And here's where it gets interesting. Cummings thinks that Tampa receiver Michael Clayton would be an attractive addition to the trade package. "[L]et's not forget, Bruce Allen drafted Michael Clayton," Cummings said. "One thing Bruce Allen will always do as an NFL General Manager is try to prove that many mistakes he's made as a General Manager were not mistakes at all. He's not good at what he does. And he makes a situation worse by trying to constantly prove that he did not make a mistake in drafting this guy in the first round, second round, third round. . . . I wouldn't be surprised to see him do it again." Right, but this presumes Allen actually has the juice in D.C. To get the Redskins interested in Clayton, coach Mike Shanahan will have to be interested in Clayton. That said, given the team's overall quality at the position, it may not be a hard sell for Allen to make. That said, it'll likely take more than Clayton to get Haynesworth. But if the Redskins truly want to get rid of a guy who has three years (as a practical matter) left on his contract at less than $20 million, the Bucs could provide a semi-face-saving strategy for making it happen. |
Re: On the radar: Skins WR's
I can't see us trading AH just for Clayton? Why would we do that? Clayton had 1 good year and that was his rookie yr. Id rather get VJ for a second rder
|
Re: On the radar: Skins WR's
The only hitch in this whole "Let's not forget Bruce Allen drafted Michael Clayton" argument is that Clayton was Gruden's choice, not Allen's
|
Re: On the radar: Skins WR's
Plus I actually like our WR's. Moss, Armstrong and Galloway/Thomas are decent. Our TE's are going to be a big part as well. Cooley should have a monster year and Davis is probably the best #2 TE in football
