Re: Down time things to talk/think about.
Man, I knew I liked Chris Samuels, and if TW listens to half of what Samuels is telling him, we will be set for another 10 years.
What It Takes: Chris Samuels - Avis Thomas-Lester All respect to Chris Samuels!
Smartest move: "Surrounding myself with good people. I had to go through some heartaches with people who I thought were in my corner, got taken advantage of financially by trusting the wrong people. But now I've pretty much got it down. ... I have a few more people who are really on my side. ... My girlfriend Monique Cox, my parents, my godfather, Gary Pearce, we call him Pearl. He's a strong, strong spiritual man, and he tells you like it is. Sometimes when you are a professional athlete, you are famous, people just tell you what you want to hear. Well, he will come in and bust that up real quick. That's what you need, someone who can come in and really keep you grounded." Biggest misstep: Getting caught up in fame during his fourth year in the NFL. "After I made the Pro Bowl twice, I starting feeling myself a little bit. I relaxed and off-season, I wasn't doing anything but hanging out with my friends, really didn't work out hard. That next season I came in and I wasn't in great shape. I wasn't as strong as I should have been, and I really didn't have a good season at all. Those guys were killing me out there."
|
Re: Down time things to talk/think about.
Good stuff from Samuels there. The season is so close you can smell the pigskins and fresh cut grass!
If TW doesn't pay attention to Chris he is not as smart as I hope he is. |

I thought this was funny how writers (probably never played any kind of sports not an athletic bone in his body) say we should cut him ,U know who I'm talking about, and let him walk away with the $21 million he got this April. That's why I really don't like reading Sportingnews anymore they contradict themselves to much. |

I don't know if you guys will see or hear this because it was on the local Hattiesburg news. Favre basically blamed the Men's Journal writer. Favre said that he and Bus were just "horsing around," and that the lesson he learned is that "you can't trust anybody," in this case meaning the writer of the article. |

I received the previously discussed Maple Street Press Redskins Annual 2010 in the mail yesterday. I really want to get it signed by Orakpo. He looks like a a total badass on the cover. It's a good read, especially the stuff about the Shanahan playbook.

It's obvious nobody out there wants to give up much in terms of value in a trade otherwise he would have been shipped out already. If Shanny decides he simply isn't worth the headache I think he could get the axe. I think the coaches, much like us, are holding out hope that he will decide to get on board with things once he gets to camp and finally sees for himself how things are operating. We'll see. |

I think he'll get a chance this summer. But if Kelly (or Thomas) struggles I can easily see Shanahan saying thanks, but you can't stay healthy/run routes/whatever and I've got a proven vet in TO sitting here wanting to play. I'll take my chances with him for a year and then look for someone else next year. Or something along those lines. |

I am pretty sure on the 51st re-quote it becomes fact seriously, it's only fact once it happens, but O'Halloran seems to me to have a good grip on the Redskins, and I was surprised to here him say that. |

Re: Down time things to talk/think about.
I am guessing it has already been said, but I think that it is great that Jeromy Jarmone has built himself up to 295 pounds and intends to play DE. I was thinking with all the guys converting to LB, there was no way he would make the team.

She sums it up well:
We don't know a lot about the Redskins yet, but we do know this much: They are already a better-coached, less enabling, better-run franchise. Their hopes aren't reliant on a home run strategy but rather on Shanahan's coherent plan and sheer professionalism.
|

Basically the ship is on the right course as best we can tell and Shanny is still the X-factor. Is it really that hard to believe our Skins could/should be the most improved team in the league from last season? ...no! |

EXACTLY! Can't wait for training camp and the preseason to get under way to see what we have here.

Possible redemption story?
I realize most everybody here thinks Maurice Clarett is a douchebag for trying to get into the NFL early and making Shanny waste a third round pick on him and then going to prison for 3 years for armed robbery, but I for one would like to see him graduate and rebuild his life. I just feel like he made some extremely horrible decisions and acted like a total d-bag in the process, but if 3 1/2 years in the joint can make him turn his life around and becoming a contributing member of society once he's out and has his college degree, well it's better than him becoming another career criminal that's always in and out of the joint. |
Re: Down time things to talk/think about.
Stories of redemption and guys turning their lives around are awesome. I love hearing stuff like that.
I worked with alot of guys coming out of jail and also who are staying in halfway houses trying to get sober. It warms my heart to see guys make it after alot of bad descions. God works in mysterious ways at times! |

That will probably happen right before TW signs. Possibly they are working a medical settlement and the two will happen 1 right after the other. The team will have to make room for TW to sign. |

I thought we had to drop 2 guys to go to camp anyway. Remember hearing a story about it or seeing it on here.

Goes to show what a class act McNabb is...Being booed when he was drafted, staying calm as T.O. blew up on him, and now this text to not only a division rival but the guy who got his job? Good to know there are zero character issues with our starting quarterback.
Now all he has to do is win a superbowl with the Redskins... |

Ouch you would think these guys would be ready to go this time of year. In Walt's defense though he is coming off a major injury which kept him out last year.
Agreed Rbaner. Needs to get his ring here, the guy deserves one as much as we deserve another Championship team as fans. |
